I'm trying to find some but not having much luck, most the sites i'm visiting stock the mini cases which I don't want.

Can you guys recommend a decent case? looking to use a HD4850 and a Q9550(Not chosen cooler yet).

Check out SilverStone line of HTPC Cases I know they make Full ATX HTPC cases. I have a SilverStone LC-20B (Which was sadly DC'ed) (I was looking to downsize so PM me if you are interested in the case)

Looks decent but looks a little big, basically a full size case on it's side, will have to think about that one. was hoping for something a little slimmer, well as slim as you can get with full atx support.

How about this Thermaltake case? It's slimline, uses riser for video card and other PCI cards, and can fit full ATX as well as regular sized power supply.

Thats a little more like it, but what would be the best graphics card you could fit in there? any cards designed for slim htpc cases?

Is the riser only for PCI and PCIE?, not sure how a PCIE card would fit without it.

Look around. The smallest case that takes a full ATX board I am aware of is the Silverstone LC-04. I believe Silverstone also makes a PCIe16x riser for it.

Antec Fusion Max is an ATX case.

Too big imo, just looks like a standard case on it's side, I quite like the thermaltake one but I need to figure what exactly I can fit in there , graphics card, cpu cooler that fit in a slim case...etc..

It wouldn't fit without it, as the expansion slot openings run horizontally, it does fit full-height cards though (the primary reason for using a riser) it will even fit dual-slot cards. (It's extremely important that your PCIe x16 slot is the 6th from the bottom for it to fit correctly)

Which is good since the current "best" HTPC video cards are the Radeon 5xxx series, since the 5xxx series radeon cards will pass HD bitstream audio over HDMI. They do however take up two slots. (The 5750 is the cheapest, close in performance to the 4850 but consuming even less power)

Also if you look at thermaltakes page, they say the max CPU cooler height is 70mm.

I have this case. The riser has 2x PCI slots and one PCIe slot.

I only have one issue and it isnt with the case itself. The built in imon unit will for no apparent reason send multiple key strokes to the OS. Have been unable to get any support from Thermaltake, they blame soundgraph the makers of the imon. Soundgraph says its thermaltakes fault.

But other then that issue with the imon, and you may not have it with different hardware. it has been a good chassis.

Thanks for the info, i'm not sure if it's the 6th from bottom, but it's the Asus P5Q-E i'll be using, anyway to check without sticking it in a case?

Bump, anyone know if this motherboard will be compatible with the Thermaltake case?

Sorry to bump but I need this info.

Thats not bad either, but wouldnt the latest ones ship with a PCIE riser? I would thought that would be standard.

Also would this also need the PCIE slot to be the 6th from bottom ?

I kind of gave up trying to find one, as there is no Canadian distributor, but as of a few months ago they were still shipping in the US with the old riser card.

The riser card is for PCIe16x, so I would assume it fits in the second slot from the top:

It also has an extender, so perhaps there is the option of using different slots.

The case has been around for years, so there are plenty of reviews and builds around. I was interested in the case because it was very shallow, and fit well on my stand. My requirement was for a media server, so I was jut going to shove my DG45FC in it, so plenty of room for that. I would think a full ATX board would present more of a challenge to get everything fitted right.

Try OrigenAE S16V or another in their line. They are the top of the line HTPC cases in my opinion. I did alot of shopping and I went with the S16V. The case design is excellent both inside and out. However, they are one of the more expensive brands.

I included a picture of a Solo cup next to the case so you could get some idea of the scale. Also, I used a micro ATX board in my S16V build, but it will take a full ATX board.

Thats a really nice case, but the price is far higher then im willing to pay, allot of of system is being put together with spare parts so really not looking to spend that much, just trying to decide on a case for everything.

I did that with my first music server. A LC17B with some AMD parts I had found in a snowbank. Looked great and worked great.

Have you considered the slim RC-360 or Elite 360? It has a full tower ATX support with about enough space for my SLI video cards, and its only 5" long. I modded mine with a handle, side window and I take it to LANs. I'll post pics if you want to see.
