From time to time I see a comment along the lines of, "it's Charlie" or some variant of that.

What did this guy do to make so many people invoke his name to be synonymous with "take with a grain of salt?"

At least that is what the translation seems to be based off the usage here.

charlie is ex inquirer. He has decent sources but you can guarantee that whatever truths he managed to talk about are clouded behind layer after layer of nVidia hatred and buried with exaggeration, embellishment, and hyperbole.

A FUD "reporter"....known for his bias (against NVIDIA) after the cut him of the hot water (something about not adhearing to NDA's)...he takes info and spins it out of control, so the truth gets buried in his rage against NVIDIA...

EDIT:
Oh, yeah and his main(if not sole?) sponsor is AMD...go figure ;)

http://www.semiaccurate.com/, that's his new site

to sum him up in a sentence is hard, his work has ranged from near brilliant articles to national inquirer level smut. Its usually easy to tell them apart, other times not so much. He is know to have a raging hard on for Nvidia and will usually spin any story against him. at the same time he for reasons I don't understand has numerous sources in the industry and often does manage to get info that others can't (or maybe just sooner as he doesn't exactly do data validation)

so the reason we always say "with a grain of salt" is that while charlie usually starts with a fact by the time he gets done its been drawn out of all proportion

Honestly, if anyone says "nVidia fucked up" every time, a few times they'd be right. That's really all this guy does with nVidia and Microsoft. Say it 100 times and a few times its true. Big damn deal.

Sure he has info but his conclusions are wrong 95% of the time.

Mike Magee quit/got fired/whatever from The Register because it wasn't tabloid enough for him, and started The Inquirer. Charlie Demerjian quit/got fired/whatever from The Inquirer, which is like getting fired from The National Enquirer for improper fact-checking, and started SemiAccurate, where he trolls nVidia fans with anti-nVidia FUD.

And if you read his articles (which I don't anymore) you see a hatred for nVidia bordering on religious or obsessive compulsive. Ever seen people picket Walmart or start screaming about Microsoft anti-trust? Thats Charlie but he is a little more hardcore, he lives it.

Good ol charlie gotta love him.miss him at the inq.i like reading his articles kinda funny sometimes.yes some seem a little out there but there's almost always some truth to his articles.

Charlie was very biased at the Inquirer; however, the Inquirer sucks now that he is gone. The articles are a bore to read.

Charlie IS very biased

Fixed that for you!

As for the rest, it seems that all you want is sensationalism and don't really care about proper news. Charlie's "site" is your best bet then, if you don't mind all the AMD ads. The Inquirer is still a tabloid, but it got better once Charlie was booted out.

I've only seen two articles from charlie one about nvidia scraping the GT300 prototypes theyve produced because of crappy yield and the second being the fake board shown recently. He never states anything as fact so much as shows you what evidence he's seen so far. If it were 100% bull I would imagine nvidia would have presented something by now. I know people keep saying hes a nobody and nvidia is ignoring him, but I mean that 2% yield thing got so big I could swear I saw it on the Ad sidebar of badjojo. Don't look it up you don't wanna know..

Point being I've yet to see anything from charlie that's turned out to be garbage and fraudulent. Maybe I'm late in the game. What's he been proven wrong on? I mean the sites called semi-accurate so I guess a little rumor is justified anyway.

Groo The Wanderer @ B3D is Charlie.
He wanders forums looking for "leaks" or speculation that seems to be possible.
He doesn't quote them, he claims a source informed him.

He is fed info from PR at both AMD/nVidia and has contacts that feed him both correct and mis-information.

He's like a paparazzi trying to find dirt on his old GF, nVidia.

Funny thing...notice how the people at B3D that knows their shit totally ignores his posts...it's fun to watch.
He is like a lost, little puppy...desperatly seeking attention...but getting none :D

When I need a good laugh I read a Charlie article. I only wish I knew of a similar writer for AMD/ATI!

I heard Nvidia killed Charlie's parents, and now he is on a vendetta...

hah,

Seriously though, to be that freaking biased in an industry that is all about competition with reasonable offerings from each company is extremely dumb.

There is nothing to gain from brand loyalty/hate but there is often something to lose. Guess there has to be idiots for intelligence to matter

AMD fanboy. This is him.
