Anyone know of any good *FREE* network traffic generators? Im looking for something much more robust than iperf but obviously not looking for something with all the features of an IXIA x16 here. Specifically, it would be nice to have:

BGP capabilities(generate millions of prefixes)
multi-stream, multi-protocol(routed and routing)
latency and jitter manipulations
IPv6 support
multicast support
H323/SIP/MGCP support
ability to push line rate of cards installed

Ive been working with a lot of heavy duty traffic generators recently(IXIA, SPIRENT, Agilent) and was curious if there are comparable opensource solutions.

good question. i'd also be interested in this. I don't know of any free ones off-hand.

Ugh... you can have my IXIAs for free. Hardware is ok, but it's buggy ass software which makes it frustrating when setting up advanced traffic flows. Each project has several hour thoughts of: "Did I do this right or is IXIA being stupid again?" Hope we go with a different vendor next go around.

Thanks for the suggestion iGamer but Im looking for something a bit more robust. Anyone else?

IXIA is top dog, easily the best that ive used and the most full featured. You aren't going to get the same performance out of a smartbits, ill guarantee you that. AND..... tell me where I can pick them up :D

xphile, I'll volunteer to type 1s and 0s really really fast...

No?

I'm curious about this too

Was playing with one of our new NPE-G2's earlier this week, and was wondering how to synthetically generate some traffic.

..with a budget of $0... LOL
