Anyone know, if I can get replacement screws for a galant at ikea? Or even a local hardware store. (I bought a galant off craigslist for $15, with no screws.)

do you have "any" of the screws? If so you can just take one to the hardware store and they usually have a board that you can try and screw it into to find out the thread type.

more real estate now that my box is on the floor

I've tried that but I just can't stand my machines being on the floor if I can help it. They pull in far too much dust and I hate having to lift the heavy bastard up to work on it.

Get a PC holder from Ikea.

Keep The Volume Up - Great wiring job on those Z5500's. Thats something I have wanted to do for a long time, but never had the patience to go through with it. But you prove it is worth the work.

(Plus I rent...so I am not about to go putting holes in my walls to fish wires around if I might be moving somewhere in the next couple years :p)

just get some external conduit. it does the job and looks nice, you can also paint it the same color of ur wall. if you wanna put it through ur wall tho i would do it. the hole wont be big at all and it wont take much putty to cover it up.

Do they make one big enough and large enough? My computers tend to weigh alot and I use E-ATX casings so they are deeper than usual.

You can fit a case up to 9" width and 20" height and the weight should not be a problem. I have it on my jerker and will post pics when my room is clean. :)

The main thing that concerns me is the depth. My rig is also fairly heavy.

Dimensions:
8.26 inches wide
20.66 inches tall
23.81 inches deep

Weight: 50lbs. (Approximate)

The depth is 18" so it should be adequate for 24" and 50lbs is not be a problem.

I actually have my pushed in to the end of the frame on one side of my Galant and it works great. It's the gaming rig listed below, might weigh in around 40lbs or more never really weighed it but the holder doesn't budge when I put the tower on it.
I did however buy a stronger strap for it, the ones from Ikea just seemed to small and loose anyways so I bought a strap that can hold 200lbs. That case is not going anywhere without the whole desk following. :D

keep the volume up... i saved your pictures... as I hope to some day have mine looking as nice and clean as yours. Wonderful job.

Hey everyone, I'm thinking about replacing my old desk with a Ikea Galant desk. I have two questions:

1. Any difference between the T vs A style legs (apart from looks.) From the show models at Ikea, the T-leg table seemed a little more wobbly than its A-style counterpart, but since there are alot of pics in this thread showing off the T-style legs, I wanted to get real use opinions.

2. How easy is it to deconstruct a Galant desk after initial construction and use for moving to another location?

if there is anyone in or around South East South Dakota i have a brand new black Fredrik for sale
if interested pm me for more info.

1. I have the T-Legs and have to say that the desk does not wobble at all. Very, Very stable.
2. The desk is pretty easy to take apart. When I bought mine locally the girl grabbed her husbands drill and we had it disassembled in about 15 mins.

My Galant has A-legs. Not the slightest instability or wobble. I took apart a couple of extensions to rearrange the layout, last weekend, and had no trouble doing it.

Got the T-legs on my desk as well, each side has one extension on it too. Rock solid, only wobbles if I actually try to make it wobble.

Found a Jerker on CL with Ikea office chair for $40. Three hour drive to get pick it up but it'll be worth it to ditch this table.

Funny, was just telling my webmaster about this thread as he was looking for a new desk and told him to hit up CL... Low and behold he finds a mint condition jerker WITH two shelf arms for $25 in the next town (20min drive). Funny thing was he looked at the pics and said "Meh... looks ok." I told him to trust me and just get it. Sure enough the next day all I got from him was "HOLY S#*@ that desk ROCKS!!!!" Cant got wrong as I found my Galant, T-Legs and corner extender pieces for $70 not to long ago.

What kind of legs do you have? You'll need hex keys for T legs. For A legs, you will need to be very careful twist the legs otherwise you will break the internal thread and that's why I don't recommend A legs.

Can someone help me out with what tool is needed to lower my Ikea Galant desk??

Use the little "screwdriver" which came with the table.
Actually i think you get several such "screwdrivers" in the little plastic bag which also all the screws came in.
It's really not a real screwdriver but i don't know it's real name, i'm from Sweden..

I bought it used, so I have no included tools....I found it though. Thanks.

NEW DESK GET!

I love this desk. It's great. Going to IKEA was fun, too. Though now there's like 20 things I want, and I don't have the money for all of it. XD

hey guys, my room is 11' by 9'. I'm thinking of either getting a GALANT corner desk or a Fredrik. The Galant is nice cuz its spacious but it takes up a lot of room so I would need to get the 63 x 47.25''. However, the Fredrik saves room and the design is pretty cool. I want my desk to hold my 22 inch and 26 inch monitors. The biggest version of the Fredrik doesnt have the upright arms which I kinda disappointing. There is a medium Fredrik with the upright arms and shelf though. Do you think will be enough room for my monitors?

Will your 22's be in portrait?

nah it will be in landscape, i'm gonna use the 22 for comp and 26 for PS3...think it will fit? What do u recommend?

I misread, thought you had TWO 22's and one 26. Then yes they would fit. But if you get the corner Galant, you have more room to grow if you ever need too.

Here's my right hang curve Galant. If I didn't have the side extension, it still holds alot. one 17", one 19", bookshelf speakers around my 28", and then a 22" in portrait on a desk clamp.

Galant looks really nice no doubt : ) I wonder why the biggest Fredrik doesnt come with the shelves. http://i518.photobucket.com/albums/u.../IMG_2974.jpg\

I want mine to look like TooBooKoo's..i'm just wondering how much room I will actually have available on the main surface. I hope the depth is long enough. My current desk has drawers too which I'll need to buy separately if I get the Galant or Fredrik. Any recommendations for those?

Heres my new Galant desk! Was so excited when I got it... Wanted to get Black Brown colour, but then I realised that dust would be very noticeable on it.. So I got white instead.. Very happy with it... :):)
