I wasted $60 on the PS3 version of this POS!?

I'll elaborate, the game play is not intuitive, it's difficult to see what the heck is going on in a fight involving 50+ enemy (on the first stage I might add), I didn't find out until the second stage I had access to other powers by holding R2 down, and hitting the appropriate button, you cannot tell who needs a med pack besides them blinking red on their portrait (they could be blinking because they have only half energy, or taking damage).

The character detail looks rushed and half arsed (what is with Iron Mans cod piece, does it need that much protection or is he just well endowed that it needs extra storage space?), environment looks okay I guess.

I don't know what Marvel were thinking, did they market the release hoping to steal some profit from DC's Batman, was it meant to be released later, who knows I'm going with the former theory myself, as it looks rushed, even the recording quality of the voice overs sounds tinny and like it was recorded on someones phone.

I don't know maybe I have had my standards and expectations raised for comic book based games by Batman: Arkham Asylum (which is not only the best Batman game ever, but one of the few comic book based games I can say is bloody good), or maybe because I know that Freedom force an almost 8 year old game is a far better game and got the comic book theme and feel just right, you can see what is happening on screen without having to try and figure out the controls at the same time, and the same with the 3rd Reich sequel.

Honestly spend a fraction of the $49 that you have saved for Marvels UA2, and buy the double pack of Freedom Force on steam for PC (sorry consoles, I guess your not worthy of this gem) for $7.49 at the moment.

Right I'm off to set fire to this abomination.

I had never played that one, I'm guessing it was at the time better than this as I had only heard good things about it, graphically comparing screen shots for the same platform as mine, I'd say the first one is the better of the two, the characters actually look like they had been finished.

But the complaints of what I found with UA2 were noted in the first one as well in regard to the game mechanic not working as well as it could or should, and voice acting recording quality being that of something done on a $10 dollar voice recorder, I thought they would have fixed these issues as it seemed a widely remarked snag that kept it from being a play again game.

Going from the slightly better than average reviews of the first one I gave the second installment the benefit of the doubt and bought it for the PS3, I will not make that mistake again, from now on I will download the demo (I used to be able to do this back home when I would buy my monthly installment of PC gamer, strangely only came with a DVD demo disc...and cost the same after conversion for CD version here?) and if that plays like a bag of crap then I won't buy the full game.

cool, thanks for the info. i have the first one on 360, kinda on the fence for this sequel.

I did not find the game to be that bad

i like playing it and its very fun
it reminds me of the x-men arcade game with much better graphics
if you were expecting anything more than a great button masher fighitng game with rpg attributes then your just retarded !
I mean the game i thought felt good the powers felt different for each character
and each character handles diffrent sure there are somewhat repeats of the fusions i guess
but wtf the fusions themselves are awesome and add a great gameplay concept to the co-op this game is a blast to with friends and this game obviously is not to be taken seriously ! its fucken superheros for fuck sake !
the storyline is very well written and nobody seems to talk about that!

Completed the game on 360.

I read the manual before playing -- I read EVERY manual -- and everything made sense and was easy to handle.

Cursor blinks red for teammates needing healing; if they are on screen, you can see what button you need to press to heal the corresponding character. If they are KO'ed, you see the button to revive that character instead of their portrait.

Game was LOADS of fun, also has a touch of dungeon crawling to it if you want to look for hidden items to unlock additional characters.

Power management is easy -- add points to the power/skill you want to raise, but there are level caps in place so that you can't max out power A at level 10.

I miss stat-modifying costumes from the first one. Instead, you have team bonuses in the form of medals.

Alternate costumes are easy to unlock, but each character only gets one.

Fusion powers are pretty cool to see on screen and necessitates a bit of a tactical element to your party selection. Using all of your favorite characters may limit the types of fusions you can use. You'll want members that allow you to cover all 3 fusion types -- Targeted (single target), Guided (for controlling, usually more useful in confined areas), and Clearing (everyone in a radius).

Not sure what all the vitriol of the OP is for; the game is a LOT of fun and even more fun with co-op. If you played the first one or the X-Men games, this is not all that much different.

I am going to completely disagree with the OP (but I play the 360 version) and say the game is a great addition to your console collection.

The game is good. It is similar to the first one. The only thing I don't like are quite a few characters in it such as the Fagtastic Four, Songbird, Luke Cage, and some others.

A well known online store just had a "madness" sale with MUA2 marked down to $49. Not that big of a drop, but I thought it interesting that this new release had already made its way to the markdown category.

I was a big fan of the original, but now I'm hesitant...

Playing through it now on the PS3 and enjoying it quite a bit actually, the quips from some characters are awasome, (Deadpool specifically,) and I'm not having any issues with controls etc... the only minor irritant is the camera angle gets caught at times. Other than that I'm having a blast with it, just need to get some mates together to play co-op to complete the deal.

As far as character models they look really good to me, very spot on to what I would expect a comic based character to fit into; for the most part the voice acting is pretty spot on as well.

Critiques:

For some reason I this one felt shorter than the first one, like a couple hours of game shorter.

I don't like how 'simplified' they made everything. (4 powers per char, no costume/point builds, only costumes)

again you get some characters that plain suck while others are just indestructable. ( mr fantastic needs to be killed, wolverine and deadpool are way too mean)

when you unlock nick fury he looks ridiculous.

Compliments:

environment is much more entertaining. Leveling Gambit's improved throwing shit ability is really fun. You'll have pink barrels bouncing all over the place murdering shit.

voice acting is decent.

the simplifying of the powers and point stuffs made everything more useful, but i still missed the variety.

story was better than i was expecting

I think they did a better job with the fusion attacks in general.

All in all I had a good time playing the game. I haven't tried it online either and I didn't get to unlock the juggernaught, since i didn't preorder. Thats kinda sad. I'm sure i can DL him later. I'm guessing they add some levels as DLC at some point. I didn't do much on the training stuffs either. They are pretty tough relative to the other game. Fucking Wanton Destruction is hard as shit. but yea, gets my vote.

I like it, not as much as the first one, but it's still fun. My little brother and I played it for about 12 hours straight last weekend and had a blast. I do agree that it's really hard to tell what is going on though. The view angles are crap and the characters are so small you can't tell what's going on half the time. It's also riddled with bugs. We had it mess up on us several times, and some of the medals are bugged. We equipped a medal that was +5% to power attacks, but it actually made our power attacks only do 5% damage. So, we ended up playing the last two levels thinking the enemies were just super resistant to power attacks, and beating it with only melee attacks. :p

My 7-year-old son bought it last Saturday. He started playing it when he got home around 11:30 and finished it by 7:00. To me, that's kind of short. He's never even made it through all of the 1st one. The graphics didn't do anything for me, either. But there's really nothing there. How can you make 4 little characters that detailed and some enemies? The cut scenes looked good. He really enjoyed it...but he likes every game...except Batman: Arkham Asylum.
