Half Life 3 ladies and Germs

Valve have (and had) more on their plate than just Half Life 2 Episode 3 to work on. Slow and steady wins the race.

Besides, the Half-Life games are worth the wait. I'd rather wait a long time for an excellent game than play a rehashed version of a title every year (*cough* COD series, NFS series, Madden *cough*).

Yes, that means you EA.

Having been massively excited for H-L2's release, I thought it was entirely generic and a bit tedious. Episode 2 was the least shitty in the franchise for me - I don't really think the H-L games are good enough to set apart from any other "rehashed title". I honestly don't actually see what people thought was so great about sitting in a boat going down a canal, some physics gun/seesaw gimmickry and then sitting in a car going down a road. Mundane.

It seems to take Valve as long to release the Half-Life 2 Episodes as it takes most companies to create a full game. The HL2 Episodes are entirely too short given the time we have to wait for them.

that is because valve is a fraction of the size of most companies.

yep Half Life 3, but after they release L4D3, L4D4, L4D5 and HL2 episode 3 :eek::p:D

Like Left 4 Dead?

Seriously, I'm expecting Left 4 Dead 3 in November 2010, using the same graphics engine from 2004.

You guys do know that Left4Dead was pretty much a finished product when valve bought it right? That another team designed the game and not valve. L4D2 now has valve involved in making the game along with the original team.

Sorry to ALL i wet myself to much and your ALL correct it is HL2 Part 3 not half life 3 I am very sorry and DO Apologize again..MY Fault :(

ROFLCOPTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dude i cant do anymore than Apologize or buy all HL2 Ep3 ...MUhahahahahahaha NOT :D Pie OFF

Left 4 Dead AND a sequel. That shows how well this "episodic" content thing is working out for them. Seriously Half Life is their best property and they are just pissing it away. So few people even care anymore.

What the hell are you talking about...

You know that you're going to one of the first to play Episode 3 when it's released. The loyal fan base will wait as long as it takes for it to be released.

Link please?

Also, The Half Life Episodes are Half Life 3, so you probably mean Half Life 2 Episode 3.

I think the real Half Life 3 will be next gen. Crytek recently said the next gen systems hw will be based on DX11 and finalized in the next or so release in 2012-2013. Today's DX11 gpus are monsters but I can't imagine how powerful GPUs will be 3-4 years from now. They can't make HL3 because they're not nuts and bolts guys, and the hw is stuck on DX9 (what HL2 was based around) So there isn't much room for improvement. Doubt they've really started building the engine yet. I'm not a fan of valve's episode system.
I'm look forward to the Black Mesa HL 1 source conversion. Anyone hear anything new ?

A lot of crying in this thread, which is a shame.

Show me one other Developer, especially as small as Valve is, that gives as much content to its customers as Valve does? How many other Devs are as faithful to PC gamers as Valve has been? I was disappointed to hear L4D2 instead of Ep.3 as well, but every game Valve has made has been worth the money so far, so I'll extend them some grace. After working on little but HL for over 10 years, they no doubt needed a break anyway. We may wait longer for the next installment, but based on their record I don't think there will be many complaining once it arrives.

im gonna get flamed for this, but I really don't like TF2. Cartoon graphics make me barf

I thought this too before I bought The Orange Box. I originally got TOB just for Portal and EP2. But now TF2 is my number 1 game.

There is NO Half Life 3.

The Half Life Episodes are Half Life 3.

For all the r tards that think there's a Half Life 3.(The Half Life Episodes ARE Half Life 3)

http://pc.ign.com/articles/711/711560p1.html

Valve revealed that the just-released Half-Life 2: Episode 1 and the forthcoming Episodes 2 and 3 will serve as the third game in the series. Rather than make gamers wait another six-plus years for Half-Life 3

Throughout the interview, Newell refers to the episodes as Half-Life 3, and points out that they aren't considered expansions.

that's from 2006, valve has since said that there will be a hl3, and that episode three would be the end of the hl2 story arc.

Give me some sources.

Thats the only info Valve has given regarding wheather or not Half Life 3 exists.(and it doesn't exist)

Pretty subjective, innit? I personally think the majority have been total gash, and the only one that really engrossed me was Portal, which was basically the sort of thing you'd see on Newgrounds except made with an enormous production budget. Wasn't even their concept. In fact, quite a lot of "their" products were thought of, designed and even produced by other people that Valve polished up. L4D? TF2? Portal? CS?

Not subscribing to the idea that Valve are a paradigm of game development, sorry - especially considering the mediocrity of their only real "own" game, the Half-Lifes.

I agree- and what's disturbing is they don't even give a flying rat's ass about Half-Life anymore, it seems. I guess it just doesn't have the following that it used to, which is unfortunate.

zzzzzzz

Always so amusing when a thread about Half Life comes up,. its like you can script the direction of the thread, people liking it, people hating it, people whining about the story and people saying "i don't care about it anymore". YET when new episodes get released forums all over the place are buzzing.

Fact is it wouldnt matter if it was a year away or 6 months away, when it arrives it WILL get a lot of attention and set people off talking. I honestly think its a good thing that its not a new episode every year or so, more than likely if they did have that schedule nailed people would be complaining about it like they do ww2 games.

"Oh gnoes not more episodes".

People can whine and complain all they want, simple fact of the matter is you'll all play it one way or the other regardless of your "opinion".

So if ep3 is the end of the hl2 story line, but it will not be the end of half life, it would lead me to believe that since 3 follows 2, there will be a half life 3. Never said a half life 3 was in development, but it will definitely be made unless there's some catastrophic event that prevents valve from creating it.

New Counter-Strike imo

That would be something. A single FPS that could be considered the true hardcore FPS, to put CGS, the CPL (and by extension CAL), and to a lesser extent the WSVG back-in-business would be nice. Doesnt look like promod's ever gonna do it. But then that project just keeps on truckin'.

my exact reaction as well. I bought the orange box all excited for EP2 and Portal, and my friend demanded that I play TF2 with him online, I wasn't just hesitant I was resistant, I thought it would be a total waste of time. I feel in love withen minutes.

I dont have links and I dont have sources, but I remember the question being posed directly: hl2 ep 3 will be the end of gordan freeman but by no means the end of the halflife universe. Just think about it from a business standpoint; if you own the IP to one of the most sucessful gaming franchises in history, your going to keep making sequels [Half Life 3: ODST... CONFIRMED.].

yup, Valve is the PC-gamers Apple. I thought this was well understood. Gabe Newell is our Steve Jobs.

There was a rumor floating around that HL2:E3 was actually HL3 ...

Or more likely, the HL2:Episodes are really HL3. I'd much rather have a new, mega HL game than L4D or the Episodes. And I think they could have accomplished that by now. TF2 is of course super awesome and can stay.

Gabe Newell, the co-founder/ president of Valve stated that the EP's count as Half Life 3, but it won't necessarily end with EP3 being the final game in the series.

Im not at all saying there not going to make more Half Life's, but i am saying that Half Life 3 already exists as stated by Gabe, so unless i see an article that contradicts that, i just have to go by what Gabe said in '06.

he has since backtracked and said there will be a half life 3.

So Valve is good at picking out talent. This has nothing to do with the fact their releases tend to be high quality, top sellers and community favorites. It also does not negate the fact that they continue to support their products with free content long after their original sale. There are other developers that do this, but rarely to this degree and even those are few and far between. Is all that subjective, certainly... as subjective as their sales figures. ;)

I'm not remotely saying Valve is to be set upon a pedestal. What I am saying is that when Ep.3 is finally released it will most likely be worth the wait. Simple as that.

"Good at picking out talent" is not tantamount to "talented". That's all my point was, no need to get defensive.

I'm not surprised they support their games for free when the design was already implemented for them - they don't need a big team to make new models, skins and sounds and release it on the same old engine time after time.

As I and others have said: the Apple of game design. A triumph of marketing over substance.

yea well Valve might be slow but you don't have to wait on a patch to play. They actually test their stuff.

I just hope they will wrap up the story during my lifetime so I know how it ends.

it doesn't help that they suck as well. EP2 was boring and monotonous from start to finish.

Only amazing game Valve ever made was Half Life 1. (IMO)

L4D is second.

Completely agree.

at least they gave us portal, tf2, left for dead in the interim between episodes, lol

Two multiplayer games and an extremely short single player experience is hardly something for me to care about.

Ever read a decent book? Good plots take time.

What plot? Theres maybe 60 minutes of dialog total in the series. The rest is just implied from your gameplay experiences. In addition its just another alien invasion story.
