Diablo 3 without LAN too

No LAN isn't a deal breaker, just an inconvenience.
Exactly. And since SC2 and Diablo3 are high profile titles, there will be emulated bnet servers and LAN loaders up and running for both those games within a week of their release. And those emulators/loaders will be pre-packaged in warez versions of the game.

The real question is why NOT include a LAN option in those games ? Using piracy as an excuse is absolutely retarded, not only will those games be cracked within hours of release - the pirates will end up getting a more functional product than legit customers and thus these kinds of decisions only end up inconveniencing the legit customer.

I rarely used LAN in Diablo 2 and I doubt I would use it in Diablo3. Starcraft on the otherhand I did use the LAN feature a ton. It stinks that SC2 will not have LAN either.

having lan or not having lan i dont care. i never use lan on any game. not a game like that anyways.

Without LAN can we still dupe items?

such as saving your charictor in a different folder, getting into a game and dropping all your stuff, exiting and reloading your save?

That's dumb...what if I want to play my single player characters with other people? I honestly doubt they will make an "open battle.net" feature again as it was terrible for anyone who cared to play legitly, although it was fun for hacked items.

Of course I'll still buy it, but removing LAN from these games just seems to upset the community more than anything.

"We're removing this feature because we feel it is useless!" ...why?!

Key word "we". Not "you". Another words we don't care about your opinions, we just want your money.

The real question for everyone here is, how many LAN parties have you been to or hosted since broadband was made available in your area? I'd be willing to bet close to 0. There's just no reason to anymore.

Every week. It's nice to see friends in person.

Am i the only person in the world who played online games with a friend over Lan? Your ping to the person next to you is going to be like 15 instead of 5 and you will be able to play others on the net.

My Lan is connected to the net. Isnt yours? The days of claiming you cant do it to 56k are over. If you still have it you know your are fudged.

/rant off

I don't see the issue here.

Back when I did LAN parties when I was younger we would play BF2 at my buddie's house.

We hooked up 6 computers through his connection and everyone had the usual pings.

Why are you people whining about no LAN? A broadband connection is enough unless you have like 20 people over.

Just more ways for Blizzard to get more money from you, did they say if they were charging monthly for Bnet usage on either game?

All i ever played %99 of the time in D2 was lan games, set up a server, let friends connect and off you went, safe, no cheating and only your friends could play.

Sure with faster connections these days vs when D2 came out is a non issue, but how much bandwidth will this take, what if you do have a lan party and your friend only has some 1mb/256kb connection, how well will that connection do with say 5-6 friends all playing and now you get into the issue of will BNet servers allow multiple connections from the same external IP?

but for those saying lan, don't need them, i don't think you have ever been to one, or you just don't have any real life friends cause you never go out anywhere.

A LAN party kicks arse in so many differnt ways it is not even funny!

Why have Quake Con, could be done over the internet

bnet has been 100% confirmed by blizz to be free for d3 and sc2, so no fud please. Just because there's no lan doesn't mean you won't be able to play private games with friends.

that is why i had a ? at the end as i wasnt sure (wasnt spreading fud), but thanks for clarifying, that just makes me plan on buying D3 even faster!

Never played a single Blizzard game on bnet -- too many cheaters and 14 year olds acting like they are 6 when they get their asses whooped up on.

Ha... yeah, I remember the first time I got town killed with one fireball. :p

to me it is 100% confirmed that Bnet is free today. Saying the future of Bnet will be 100% free is just unbridled optimism. I think forums like this are perfect places for both fud and unbridled optimism as long as they are not mislabeled as fact.

That being said I herd some fud a few months back about the attributes being auto assigned based on class making for no more battle mage, has this been confirmed false yet?

I'm pretty sure that's a fact straight from Blizz. http://hellforge.gameriot.com/blogs/Hellforge/Bashiok-on-Lack-of-Attribute-Spending

I'm not going to lie, I am saddened by the thought of it, but he does bring up a valid point. Not worrying about teetering gear so you can wear a certain item or not will be nice as hell. It might actually bring in more customization in that we will be able to plan out other stats instead of attributes.

I'll wait and see whether I like the change or not.

This will also pave the way for them to charge for Battle.net. If there is no Lan support you can not bypass there servers using Hamachi or Trunngle. Pretty lame.

lol .... did you read what you wrote? Do you think Activision Blizzard is in the business of catering to pirates?

I can't go into too much detail, but a guy on my team lives with a code monkey who's working on Project Titan at Blizzard. This is their rumored successor to WoW, and is located in the Diablo wing of the building, higher security locked doors. Think Willy Wonka level access. Nobody comes in, nobody comes out.

Anywho, apparently the majority of the underlaying 'code' for Diablo 3 has been done for quite some time. Blizzard runs development like a factory line, where programmers hop from project to project as soon as that portion is done. Apparently the design team is now working on Diablo 3, where many of the Diablo 3 programmers have moved into the Project Titan area to begin working there. This means (or so I'm told) that the core work is done, Blizzard is layering in the other teams to finish the game.

My coworker told me about Starcraft 2 not having LAN over a year ago, and said the Diablo 3 decision was in place before the game began production. Blizzard is going to give you every excuse they can, but the bottom line is that the purposely left the feature out of the games to combat piracy and FORCE gamers to you know ... buy their game.

Also, expect subscription tiers for Battle.net over the next 5 years eventually leading to no free to play model in the far future.

My sources are nothing I can directly link, so don't believe them if you don't want to. It doesn't matter to me who cares, all I know is I haven't been led incorrectly yet. I've met, and shaken hands with the man.

For sure, sorry, but i Blizzard doesnt care if you played SC and Diablo 1, they see the what... 9million + paying for WoW and go, ya WOW! we could do that with all our games

Sorry but the day of having "hardcore" gamers is over, it is about getting as many people in as fast as possilble!! who will drop $10-$15 a month and WoW is a perfect working example, and yes, if Diablo III is that good, and they are hard on hackers, i WOULD pay $15 a month for Diablo III for at least 6 months or until i finish the game.

You would pay a monthy fee for a singleplayer game? Have you lost your mind?. Dude its not worth it. Take that 15 dollars a month you would be spending for a game that you already payed in full for and donate it to someone who needs it. its better than throwing it away.

Protip: Diablo 3 isn't a singleplayer only game.

id pay monthly for diablo 3, IF They continued to add new content. if they didn't, i don't see the point in charging a fee, if all you're paying for is being able to play on battle.net

Well it certainly is not an MMO, but if Blizzard has there way I'm sure it will be soon enough and it will totally destroy the franchise. You can't charge a monthly fee for a game that has singleplayer options.

Read carefully, it was never suggested that Diablo 3 would require a monthly fee but Battle.net itself.

Baaah...
I'm not too worried about B.net...
I strongly beleive it'll stay free.

But hey, if for some reason they decide to charge 5$/month for some ranking services that apply to every game, sure. why not?
If the game's good (sc2,d3) I won't mind, why would you?

And has been shown countless times before, this does not work with high profile titles. Emulators and loaders will be available within a week for SC2 and Diablo3 which will allow the game to function on LAN just as well as if it did support it.

And not to mention the pirated versions of the game will be packaged with these emulators/loaders, meaning that the pirates will get a more fully functional version of the game - thus the only people actually hurt by this decision is the actual legit customers.

You should never punish your legit customers due to piracy, nothing will stop piracy, especially of high profile titles. If anything it actually drives more people towards the pirated version of the game.

will it at least have a single player mode?
Knowing buzzard it will be single player but you still have to log into the servers.
That way they can send you pepsi ads in game.
OH WAIT lets stop take a break and order some pizza...click yes to order that delicious pizza.
Hit any other key to order that delicious pizza.

Don't worry we already have mommys credit card number.

Lemme guess...you go "clubbin" on Fridays with your techno music and glow sticks too?

Something tells me you are young and didn't attend or host any LAN parties back in 1993. Try lugging around computer towers, monitors, and everything else that weighed a damn ton and try to cram everyone into the same room with all that huge ass stuff. LAN parties were fun, but they were complete hell to put together back then. Also, they were about the only way to get even a decent multiplayer experience...today, I consider myself blessed that technology has advanced to the point where I don't have to do that anymore.

LAN parties... Get a decent broadband connection and quit whining for fuck sakes.

While you're at it, get your head out of your ass...this isn't Quake Con, matter of fact it isn't even a FPS...it's D3. Is there a Diablo Con in the works we haven't heard about?

You're a real piece of work  some people live in areas where broadband doesn't have any penetration what do you expect them to do?

Please spiel some more while I laugh at your stupidity.

hahah this is hilarious. Why are you so damn angry? a true LAN can never be recreated by a WAN. I have 5 computers in my house all ready to LAN when friends come over.

Warcraft 3 mauls, Diablo 2 both are good times with a LAN.

why can't you just create a private game on battle.net with a password for you and your friends?

Oh no. Not a condescending post involving age. Let's all take advice from Father Time here what it was like to be 14 back in 1993.

bnet emulators = all probability true if battlenet is to become paid for service.

rofl, wow that was really funny man, awesome :)

But honestly, I think at one point you reach an age where meeting with your friends are at your house, you enjoy a good cold beer, nice diner , chit-chat, kids run around and have fun, they leave you sleep.

Once in a while you setup a time, load wwhatever game you want, and play the game with your friends online.

I don't need to have them sitting close to me to enjoy the experience, honestly, I prefer to spend time with my friends enjoying life, having a good time, talking ,etc.
When I gaming, I concentrate and don't talk much, which is why I think it's much better online.

Plus lan party are a sausage fest.
eww.

last lan party i had, i ended up sharing a bed with someone.

(not a chick)

DO NOT WANT LAN

Can and do, but when we LAN switching games/activites is quite easy. We can go from Warcraft 3 to D2 to BOmberman to Mario Kart to Pizza to massive gay orgy to cuddle time in just a matter of a few minutes.

Its hard to come up with a reasonable excuse when the truth is told isn't it?. Instead you get incoherent ramblings and cursing. Looks like someone has a first row ticket on the fail train to nowhere.
