China insists it does not hack into U.S. computers. Uh, okay, we believe you…really we do. Right guys?

"Some people keep making up stories, I don't know what their intentions are," foreign ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said. "We resolutely oppose and crackdown on cyber crimes, including hacking." Jiang was commenting on a Wall Street Journal report that computer spies hacked into the Pentagon's 300-billion-dollar Joint Strike Fighter project.

Is this statement after they read the Popular Science article where Chinese hackers admit to hacking into US companies because the Chinese government doesn't care as long as it's not being done against them?

I bet they'll do another "look at us run over all these pirated movies with a steam roller" type demonstration too to really nail the point hime :)

It is true you can't believe one word that comes out of a Chinese government official, but I think much of this "coming from China" is because of network tunnels that originate in China then lead to some other source. Besides, if the DOD contractors are following DOD security guidelines that means everything these hackers are stealing is basically misinformation. This stuff should not be on the internet. Stop putting things on the internet. There is no reason to have it on the internet. Even military requisitions for things like toilet paper should not be on the internet because it gives you an idea of troop numbers. The internet is for porn and games damnit!

Yeah, i'll believe that when i don't need to ban China and parts of Singapore from ever trying to ping my computer.

Every now and then I get a random ping from IP from China. Even if I'm not actively browsing. Sometimes, I even get entire floods of pings. And I've cleaned out my system six ways to sunday. if I still have a virus or something still trying to be accessed, its one helluva hidden file.

Should of nuked them after WWII like MacArthur wanted after the nationalists got capped on the mainland.

And had the rest of the world continually on our ass because of it for the rest of history. Or, worse, directly led to a nuclear war/

have you guys ever though about this.

I recive 3 times as many connections from USA, than china, i recive 6 times as many from countries like ukraine and russia.

and if some1 pings you, doesnt mean it's the whole country against USA, 1 billion people lives in china, how many in usa ? 300 millions approx.

That means there might be a hobby hacker in his home, not unlike USA hackers, its like blaming youre whole country to be fucked up cause of there is 10 crazy hackers in USA.

There is no doubt there is a bit wacked off goverment in china, but well, its gotten better the past 20 years.

and, i think china would win in a war against usa.

Conspiracy theorists will have a field day with this lol...seriously guys, why can't we all live in peace? Is it necessary to be so antagonistic against the Chinese? Sure they have twice the number of people as we do, but why would they want to take over the US? What possible gain would they have, other than possibly be engage in a long drawn out war that would cost trillions of dollars and billions of lives (literally).

Listen, I don't want to live in peace. I want to destroy my enemies perceived or otherwise. You think the world is some happy place that gives two shits about you, no. So get them before they get you. First of all, China has 1.25 billion people. 80% of them are rural illiterate farmers, 200 million chinese men will never marry or have children, they have a standing army of several million, the only expression of their military will be through their navy which they have built up thank in large part to espionage from the US and companies world wide selling them technology. If China or Russia sense weakness in the US to the point that could render our ability through hacking our resources via cyberwarfare they could decide to make a move by going after places like Taiwan or the Phillipines and test to see if we are willing to confront them. You want peace, the go to the moon, otherwise step aside and let real people do the real thinking about killing people and blowing shit up.

They very well could be haking our shit.. WTF do you think Obama and our Congress would do about it...

You guessed right!

There is only peace when there is a mutual fear of each other.

Lets say I have a gun (you know that I do), and you don't (and I know you don't). What is there to stop me from taking your stuff?

Now, Lets say I have a gun (you know I do), and you have a gun (I know you do). What is there to stop me this time?

It's through the presence of force that we are safe, not the lack there of.

This is a "My daddy can beat your daddy up" type of post. A lackluster spiel if I ever saw one. Greenland is going to melt and the world is going to be in a bigger mess in 50~ years long before China becomes a military threat.

you are what's wrong with this world. someone should step aside and let them kill you, instead.

Never underestimate your enemy....

The Cold War may be over with Russia. The Cold War with China is in full swing though. I fear China's military much more than a couple of "terrorists" with 747's. No disrespect to 9-11 victim's and their families.

Yeah, right LOL

Everyone knows All Our Base Are Belong To Them...

Heh, all this talk of armies and invasions and conventional warfare. Conventional warfare amongst nuclear powers is a thing of the past. China invades us, everyone dies. We invade China, everyone dies. Russia invades us, everyone dies etc. The very definition of M.A.D.
Of course the Chinese are hacking our systems, why wouldn't they? I'm sure we and all the other world powers have all sorts of people poking at other govt. systems because there's almost no risk, no agent to be captured, and no way to really pin it down to who really did it. All you get is a bunch of denials and rhetoric just like we're getting now.

china is almost certainly trying to hack our networks .... but a better question would be how is a "300-billion-dollar Joint Strike Fighter project" hackable? If this weapon is going to be deployed to "all branches of the armed froces" shouldn't that project at worst be on a closed network? or better yet .. not on a network at all?

If this is a lynch pin in our national security, then do the right thing and protect it. Securing this information is as import as the information itself. This is also an example of what happens when technology (computers/networks) gets in the hand of idiots. The bush regime was busy writing post-its and rebooting their 486 CPUs and the Obama regime is more concerned about assisting the RIAA and setting a double standard for pirating between the US Citizen and the rest of the world. Oh, but at least he kept his blackberry, so he must be knowledgeable about tech.

Didn't he get a special blackberry?

300 billion R&D now cost China or Russia a couple of thousand bucks.

Like Tokamak pointed out, you should be more scared of China's nukes rather than its standing army.

Also, real terrorists gaining access to "small-scale" nuclear weapons is an issue most people tend to forget about, until one day it actually happens :(

Perhaps if they had a land bridge or managed to fling ICBM's over our defenses.

No country, not even the U.S., has any chance of taking down all ICBMs launched at them. That is why they are deterrents and not something countries can actually use in a conventional war.

Mission Shield for the loose -1

China has 180 and much less are actually heads on ICBM's and have a long travel time of exposure. This would be no problem in theory. Russia on the other hand, much different story.

This reminds me of a Tom Clancy novel, The Bear and the Dragon.

When we came to Russia's aid against the might of the invading Chinese army, both country found that they royally underestimated the strength of the smaller United States military forces.

That was one of Tom Clancy's best novel imo.

China has repeatedly promised no first-strike, and definitive second-strike retaliation, which is a great policy. Everyone wants to defend their own interests, but no one cares about warmongerers.

Also, in regard to the poster who said "should of nuked them", and my consequent reply "Are you retarded?", all it takes is a bit of a brain to think about the implications. Don't like someone? We "should of nuked them"! It really shows how some Americans only pretend to care about freedom, human rights, etc., when they would, at a whim, nuke a country (or maybe they don't even pretend to care and don't care at all).

China is just looking out for their best interests. Our economies are so intertwined now that am all out war causes everyone to lose. That being said, its good to see things like modern media and communication...the kind of BS propaganda past governments used to justify wars of aggression is getting harder and harder.

The American people do not want war with China, and Im sure the Chinese people reciprocate.

If people leave their top secret shit on PC's connected to the internet, dont blame the h4x0rs who come along and steal it.
