Best software for monitoring users on a network?

Company is looking for software to monitor about 40 users over the network, looking for a program that can log usage, and even allow remote viewing over the network.

Needs to have commercial licensing available, not looking for something like set up 40 vncs lol.

Just wondering what people suggest or what their companies use.
 
One of my friends just suggested the product they use in their IT department for me. It's called Spector 360 but a little high on cost, 75/user about according to the glowing review on pcmagazine.

My school uses syncroneyes, your able to see everyones monitor, what their doing, and can also change what they are doing such as deleting adress bar, or sending them a message for example..
 
Spectorsoft is suppose to be the best, has 2 versions CNE and 360 may want to call em, sign up for a reseller just to get it cheaper for urself.
 
In the end, i dont see how one could be better than any other, maybe cheaper, but they all probably relatively the same right?

all do the same thing to spy but all report differently.
 
if you can't trust your employees to do their jobs you might as well let them all go and get new ones.

Not everything in life is best done with a technical solution.

what sort of answer is that?

My company's a project management firm. We have over 100 employees scattered around the US and several out of country. Every one of them have laptops, and since they're all away from home for a week or a month at a time, I go easy on their laptop's lockdown. I permit installation of games. I permit iTunes and Napster and I permit personally preferred apps (firefox for example). I permit anything as long as the employees don't deliberately harm their computer or use anything illegally.

Everyone's laptop is joined to our domain prior to shipping it out to them, so they're following our domain policy, in addition to having a content filter via TrendMicro WorryFree for Small and Medium Business (which also handles spam filtering and antivirus). This keeps employees off of torrent sites and pornography sites.

In my case, I HAVE to trust employees not to muck up their computers, and if they do, I just remotely control their computer using LogMeIn Rescue and fix it. Nobody's perfect and we're all human.

Anyways, a monitoring software will help people like me and the OP to make sure everything's ok and not being circumvented, and to find out why or how an employee broke their computer since we're not there with them. 90% of the time when an employee break something, it's always "I went to the bathroom and when I came back, it was like that". It gets old fast, and I don't have time to waterboard the employee to get the truth out of him.

Besides, monitoring software also serve as a deterent. If an employee knows he or she's being monitored, they're try extra harder not to violate company computer policy or break their computers.

Untangle itself is open source with optional commercial support and features. PC Remote http://www.untangle.com/PC-Remote is the commercial app for remote PC support.

Dameware is awesome, just administration stuff and remote control here, costs a bit, but has superb AD integration. http://www.dameware.com/ not free

Remote admin is nice and small, easier than VNC http://www.radmin.com/ not free also. remote control and file transfers.

SynchronEyes is junk and not intended for the purpose the OP stated. We use it in academia so the professor can make sure his students are watching the board, not their computer screens.

I have access to Synroneyes and Lanschool and Synrconeyes is an inferior product. It's buggy and easy to get around.

Lanschool is superior.

This product is great, they have a version for larger networks that records everything in a central location, so IT can watch, review, etc.
 
our company uses something called lightspeed i didnt set it up though so dont know much about it
 
This program does its job really good.
Its features are monitoring internet and application usage, recording complete history of communications and keystrokes typed on any application, taking screenshots and so on.
I guess, it's what you are looking for.
 
OmniPeek is a great software. One of the best packetsniffer monitor program. However it cost money but maybe google can help you find it.
