I've been over on the blog trying to engage the guy in a more civil conversation on the matter. With the attacks coming from as many different directions as they have, I can understand why he's a bit defensive and lashing back if he really did have nothing to do with any of the p2p bullshit.

Even after all this, he's still here, still folding. I'd rather see TeamFTL put this behind them and get on the right track rather than kill off an entire team's passion for F@H because of a few assholes.

Ever uninstalled F@H when it's installed as a service? It doesn't uninstall the service, you have to go manually rip it out of the registry...that is unless they've fixed it in one of the latest releases.

I saw your comment, and asked him about his "anonymous" user. I still don't think he gets why I asked so I explained it to him.

I hope this is the case, but I doubt it. I now do really think they are just an installer b0rg group with a few real and authentic users.

I want to give people the benefit of a doubt but the more I read of that blog and the "TeamFTL" user's condescending attitude towards everyone, the less I can. Does he really think we need a lecture on what the Anonymous user is, or is this just redirection to avoid the original question and topic?

I think it's a redirection. Note their tagline:

"Team FTL (Faster Than Light) consists of people from various countries who came together online to spread the use of Folding@Home to the wider online community at large by debunking myths, thorough informed engagement and user-friendly installers."

I think he is fine with 2900 people folding for him as "anonymous" and he will redirect any argument against that. I made it clear so he puts "anonymous" on his "remove list" for Stanford.

Anonymous for default (as we all know) is due to someone hitting return during the user and team name prompts or fields in a client, whereas anonymous for TeamFTL is not.

Just a defensive scammer trying to look legit IMHO. I also tried giving him/her the benefit of the doubt, but can clearly see it's just a response site for them losing all their points earlier. I don't see any "myth debunking" or "informed engagement" on their blog site, just defensive "explanations".
 
Another thing that I find interesting is that they just want to just "monitor" other forums rather than join in any meaningful discussion. They want us to go to their blog and just be spoon fed their side of the story, and comments are either just ignored or met with immediate personal attacks. They also weren't anticipating us actually trying to engage meaningful conversation, the second we started talking, they decided to disappear for 3 weeks.

Now, to be fair, they did post on MaxPC and another forum that escapes memory right now just to say "come to our blog, I won't talk to you here."
 
That's precisely why I think it's best to not give them the attention and to concentrate on ourselves... Remember that if people is genuinely wanting to help, they could always join a real team or to fold anonymously.
 
Man things like this really piss me off.

I know its optional in the installer, but most people dont know different and in the end they have taken a a peice of software designed for the greater good and turned it into malware.

Then Stanford will get blamed for distributing spyware.

Hopefully Stanford will address the issue, and I hope they put killbits in the next release.
 
I'm curious If anyone has any updates about this.

I've seen the 'zeroing' that happened on feb 25 ? , but thats about it.

While I am in fact worriying about my own production more , I can multitask , so I'm just wondering if anyone knows any more about this.

I got a response from Stanford as to why teamftl was still producing :
