Thought it was interesting to see what the design community thought of games instead of the usual suspects.

How can this list get any respect with some of those choices. Orange Box is number 2? There's nothing artistic about it. It's characters from three different games shoved together, and then some text explaining there are three different games inside. That's not "brilliant game art."
 
Yea I have to agree with the poster above. But now thinking back I do remember the box of HL2 (front and back) was what made me want to play it,despite any reviews :p

And why are you all so buffed up about some photoshop tutorial page putting up some crappy list. It's not like it's gamespot or something

I can't believe they put the Alliance WoW cover up there. That doesn't make me want to play. Bring back the real deal cover with the Orc and Tauren. For the [H]orde!
 
Author definitely has a taste for the avant-garde

Ultima 7. . . I love the game, will readily declare it the best game ever made. . . But it's box art is just blue text on a black background. Enough to be provocative, but hardly artistic.
 
Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions, should be on there.

Shadow Hearts 2:Covenant ( Europe cover ) is good too.

... and realized that these people don't have enough exposure to videogames and explains why they chose such modern and mainstream examples as "ALL-TIME GREATS". Terrible list, imo.

That is the worst list ever. I don't think the person who put it together has played a game made before the year 2000.
 
Yet another vote for lame list. Someone who knows shit about video games or art just slapped together a list of mostly recent and popular games.
 
The guy writing that list has apparentely no artistic sensibilities or taste at all! ...and he apparentely is under 20 years old because he doesn't seem to know anything about games or gaming history.

What about games from the 70s and 80s where there was no photoshop and it was just pure artistic talent or great canvases that were abstract or beautiful. I've always loved Star Raiders.

THE MOST OUTRAGEGOUS THING - He kept talking about how "face staring at you on cover" or "big guy in armor" was cliched BUT HE KEPT PUTTING THEM ON THE LIST. Come on you dweeb! If it's cliched, it's probably not good. Fallout 3, Killzone 2, Gears of War, etc. are some of the worst videogame covers of all time.

Man, I've forgotten how epic the Secret of Mana cover was. It really makes you wonder how far Squaresoft has fallen off.
 
Yeah, that list was pretty horrible.

Seemed like a high school project, as the descriptions were even pretty mundane.

i was a huge fan of the earthsiege games back when they came out... and earthsiege 2 had an awesome, awesome box for the time...

Another list I don't agree with personally at all, it seems the majority are newer/console games.

How the hell did they leave off the Gabriel Knight games? Some of the most memorable covers.

Those are just off the top of my head and they put their dicks in 90% of everything else on that list. I'm sure with a little time you could come up with a list twice as long and five hundred million squillion times better.
