Well, i never used the stock panel with my xig, but looking at it through my windowed panel, the xig is probably only about 10 mm away. I wouldn't worry about it tho, i just put my to top fans as intakes, and the rear as an exhaust, and i'm getting 30 *C on my cpu and 45 *C on my gpu while running F@H GPU2.

Here's a shot with airflow arrows; my side panel fan is an intake too.

I like to have positive pressure because I have 2 dogs, so it helps to keep the dog fur out of the case :)
 
I just skimmed through most of this thread, and I have to say, I'm quite embarrassed about my CM-690 build job, noob build or not. My cable management-fu is weak. :(

I notice that a few people made cuts into their cases. This is a no-go for me, as I don't have the tools to make the cuts with, so I'm left trying to use the stock holes and zip tie mounts fastened on the rear of the motherboard tray to make do. I have a lot of problems, such as the 8- and 24-pin motherboard power connectors not being long enough to route through the bottom and out the top and side, respectively. As such, my 8-pin power cable crosses in front of my CPU cooler, and my 24-pin cable crosses right through the middle of the case.

How does one correct these tragedies?

I was in the same boat and I made the best with my short and non modular cables. I'll post some pics up tomorrow. It's pretty much trial and error but when theres a will, theres a way.

You can get extension cables. I just got one for my P4/8 cable (it now runs behind the motherboard) but it used to run across it, as you can see in the pic above.

I got mine from newegg:

Wish I had known about the cable length issues before budgeting for my rig. :rolleyes:

I'm going to post up my pics of my case here next week as I build my new rig in my sig.

I'm not pushing the 8 pin through the back of the case and will be routed under the video card and zip tied out of the way as I don't want to deal with extension cables.
 
Just got mine together last week. For the most part it was a nice case to work with, although my front bezel was a royal pain to remove. I should have some more pics once the weather warms up and I can do a little painting.

Grab the underside--there's a hooked area you can use as a grip--and pull as hard as you can. You'll think you're going to break something, but it'll pop off.

And the best way to reattach it is to place it back on the front, tilt the case onto its front, and then push down. Let weight and gravity do the work for you.
 
If you have the side pannels off you can squeeze the front on quite easily:)

I put a thin layer of silicone lube on the plastic pins and that made it a bit smoother. Still very tight, but not as sticky feeling.
 
Awesome guys--- thanks for the feedback. I got the two panels up top off last night fairly easy.

Rest of my gear is coming today so I'll post up some more pictures once I'm all done. :)

I understand the positive pressure bit, but it seems like that top left fan (top back-most part of the case) is really working against you in this setup. Flip that around and you'll have a nice bottom-front to top-rear flow going.
 
I'm looking at buying this case but can't find any measurements of the internals. :eek: I have a PSU with fairly short cables and would like to know if it would fix. If anyone has this case handy I would greatly appreciate a quick measure from the PSU cable hole to the top of the mobo tray.

Either way this case looks too nice to pass up over an old psu, I might just need a new one :)

I have done 2 builds with this case now and I can say that short cables are going to make your life difficult for getting to the CPU power. Unless you want to run the cable along the surface of mobo I suggest getting a PSU with longer cables.

Nice rig ozzy! You are already light years ahead of most people on the cable management, looks good to me. Anything more than what you have there would be strictly aesthetic in its purpose since you've already eliminated any airflow impediments. What are the specs on your build?

Cpu-Intel E8400 2 x 3ghz :)
Mobo-DFI LanParty DK P35-T2RS
Graphics card-Plait 9600GT-512mb
Ram-Crucial batlisk 2gb
Power supply-Coolermaster extreme power 600w of which i have switched the fan as it was too loud :)
Case-Coolermaster CM690 case with custom window and sprayed a satin black inside
Hard drvie-250gb Maxtor sata 2
Sunbeam rheobus fan contoller
custom switches for cathodes 2 x uv, 1 x blue
 
Wow, Ozzy, you're a tough act to follow. Great job!

Guess it's my turn now. I've actually built my rig twice: one initial build, the horribly embarrassing results of which are in the first photo, and a rebuild, where I removed everything but the drives and set about recabling as best as possible. I really wish the BFG power supply's cables weren't so thick: after routing them through the bottom hole, it was impossible to fit the SATA and top case plug cables through the back of the motherboard tray. I feel like I've done the best I can with what I've got, and the improvement should be pretty noticeable.

Okay, enough talk, here are the photos. (Apologies for the horrible iPhone pictures: for some reason, my camera won't read or write to my CF card.)

The after photo looks very messy along the bottom drive bay, but the cables don't obstruct airflow in the least. The 8-pin and 6-pin power connectors going into my 4850 X2 are routed along the bottom floor of the case, rising up along the left panel, and then looped back to plug into the card. (Yes, the card is sagging. Yes, it's that heavy. Yes, I'm buying a Cardkeeper for it.) Lastly, the side panel fan and the bottom front case fan are connected directly to the power supply via adapters, which are on the floor of the bottom drive bay. Overall, it looks messy, but looks are deceiving.

Now if only I could figure out what to do with the cables coming from the top of the case...

Also, does anyone know if it's possible to mount a fan in the 5.25'' drive bays? I imagine it would have to be 140mm to fit in, too.

+1 for you cause i have that PSU also. It was too loud at first, but i slapped a 120mm Zalman LED fan in there, and it's so quiet!

Yesterday I decided to do some cable management and I ended up modding it a bit as well. I took the fan that I had on the bottom and put it in the front above the DVD Drives (which I moved to the bottom-most slots). All in all I think I did a good job, comments?

Chyeah! I was inspired by this thread and bought one of these cases 3 months ago to move my ass into gear and build my first PC..

I knew as soon as I bought it I was in love.. or maybe in-lust.. anyways, I'm now only 4 weeks out from having all the parts I need to construct my i7 cm690 bastard child!

Well, I am glad to see that this thread is starting to get some action. I finally got around to taking some more pics, this time with a Nikon D90. They do not do the camera too much justice as it was quite dark when the pics were taken, the D90 sure did a hell-uv-a job considering.

+1 to this

Isn't this the opposite? Positive pressure means more CFM from intake fans coming in than CFM from exhaust fans going out...hence positive pressure = more dust + dog hair not less...

Also, hot air expands and rises, so you would probably have better air flow, and a cooler case if you reversed the two top fans to their appropriate position as exhausts, not to mention less dog hair and dust in the case.

You could try turning just the top rear fan into an exhaust, since you have a single fan on your CPU, then cool air could come in from the top front fan, and cool air from the bottom, and then exhausted out the top rear and rear exhaust fans.

Just a thought...Sexy looking case though :D
 
I love this case. I know my pictures suck, I just wanted to let you know I joined the 690 family. Sorry for the black milk crates, but that's what I have for now to put the 690 on level with my table. The Sunbeam display looks great too, don't be deceived by my crappy ass camera. And yeah, almost showed my wife's sexy butt on HF...:D:D:D:D

Just a tip for some of you who may be building (or those who want to move them...) the hard drives are best cooled in the #2 down position (going from top to bottom) as the fan in the front doesn't really hit the top one that well.

Something to keep in mind while building. Cases are looking good guys. :)
 
I have mines in 1 and 2 from top to bottom, 2 being my "C:". Somehow I noticed that too when I was changing the blue fan for the green. I didn't mentioned it because I thought people would say I was too picky. ;)
 
I just put mine where I could get the cables to go the best. I do not know what the heck it will look like if I add another HDD, I might have to put in another one of the modular cables. OH NO! the tiny hole might not allow it. Oh well, my buddy has a dremel, I am going to be a tad worried about the aesthetics of it tho.
 
Here is my 690. I painted the case, hacked a hole in the side (need some piping to clean the cuts up and repaint the side due to the scratches) and cut a few extra holes to route cabling. All in all i think it came out pretty nice.

Very nice.
What kind of Spray did you use, looks like a matte finish of some sort.
I used a black matte spray for radiators and now it is chipping away at the places for the side panel to click in.
