Bill Gates snagged headline of the day by unleashing a swarm of live mosquitoes on a crowd of people attending his speech today...just to make a point. Good thing he wasn't talking about bulls or something that stampedes. Damn, where is the YouTube video when you need it?

"Not only poor people should experience this," the Tweetosphere has Gates saying as he released the swarm into the audience. Malaria is a cause that Bill and Melinda have been hitting hard with their philanthropy, and this is certainly a way to drive that point home.

The Microsoft bugs which became self-aware. :D

I think that wast the last time when Bill Gates unleashed a swarm of bugs on people. :)

they weren't actually infected with malaria for that matter,
Did they check them all? Did they raise them from eggs? Were they all males? Does he realize if someone has a disease he could potentially spread it...

Next up, Bill Gates offers AIDS vaccine to rich folk than turns around tell them he actually injected them with AIDS there is no cure, not only poor people should have it, and they better start donating like crazy to find a cure!

I wonder if somebody who attended that speech kicked his ass for doing that if they would get in trouble. Would it be wrong if somebody trained a bulldog to attack him back? hehe. Perhaps it would make it right if they had a speech about how bulldogs can die if too many mosquitoes sucked their blood out? ;)

Gates is clearly off his rocker. Next we'll be seeing Al Gore build a CO2 plant to prove his point about going green.

Good thing you cant get AIDS from mosquitoes

Gates has clearly lost it since retirement. Somebody should sue the crap out of him for a stupid stunt like that.

how do you guys know the bugs werent lab-raised? i would be really surprised if he didnt take proper precautions.

and uhhhh sue him? for WHQAT? hot coffee in lap?

Bill is awesome. I miss Bill. He's the only guy who coiuld keep Mad Dog Balmer in check.

^ oops

anyhoo, this is THE BEST thing i've seen in a while

kudos bill :D

Okay Vista haters can STFU now.
Though this is one way to get you point across. I'd remember this till the day I died if I was there.

sounds like a logical approach to the debate. i suspect bill may have lost his marbles.

Uhhh... How soon we forget Vista. (WinME 2)
I chose WinME because it seems to be more universally hated than Vista. That being said, it WAS A JOKE...NOT A COMPARISON.

If you want me make to attempt a different joke...here you go.

This still doesn't compare to the amount of bugs Bill Gates releases WITH EACH AND EVERY WINDOWS RELEASE.

i wonder if the american legal system would interpret that as assault? I say tazer him and drag him off stage...

You know, I hate to play devil's advocate here ...

But good for Bill. That's just a small taste of what the impoverished experience every day of their lives. It's harder (not impossible, but harder) to comprehend and feel genuine compassion for someone whose condition you may not truly understand. If I had been there, I would've appreciated the reality check. I would assume he took precautions.

The well-to-do in their air conditioned offices could use a nice reality check, too. I've lived in a third world country for an extended period of time. I think everyone should get that experience, if nothing else, just to better appreciate what they have. Imagine not having hot water, or running water for that matter.... It's like you are living with all the disadvantages of being in the wild with none of the advantages. You have no amenities, but are still surrounded by a bustling, noisy city ...

Now at least they have tasted a part of the problem - swarms of mosquitos.

I have been a real swarm of misquotes (aka it looked liked a cloud of bugs) and I can tell you that it isn't fun at all. Now I wonder if he really released a swarm or was it just a few hundred or thousand instead of 10's of thousands.
