I travel alot for my job, was thinkin about pickin up a ps3 for boring hotel room downtime.

My question is

Is it durable enough to go through flights, and driving all over hell's half acre?

I don't see why not. Heck, I'd be willing to take my new 360 with me (not my old one - both because it is autographed, and because it is an xbox from early 2006...hasn't red ringed, but it now sits on dispay in my apartment.)

A ps3 is huge. As awesome as it would be to have it in your room I say either head to a bar or get a PSP, DS, or both.

Strongly suggest heading to a bar and meeting new friends if you travel a lot. lol

get a good case if you want to travel with it. And with bag costs these days on flights, and the fact that the case would have to be pretty big, it'd be possibly tough to take any non-wii console with you when traveling.

I don't own a PS3, but how does it compare size wise to a 360? I headed to a friend's house yesterday with my 360, and it fit in my laptop bag fine (along with it's power brick and a controller..the other 2 controllers had to be carried by hand...)

Personally, I'd be paranoid about someone stealing it if it were in my checked baggage. If you generally check in a suitcase with clothing and other personal effects, perhaps getting a small rolling suitcase that's small enough for carry-on would be the best option. And I don't think static or dust will be a huge problem, but couldn't hurt to also find some means of protecting it, such as a large anti-static bag.

Also, how do you travel for work? I'm assuming you're talking about flying, otherwise if this is to protect it from getting shuffled around while driving, then I guess any protective case will do.

I've taken my ps2 with me on business travel before, but generally it's a short driving trip and I just stuff it away in my suitcase. Definitely tons of fun for those boring hotels.

And if possible, get a cheap array of cables. If you book snazzy hotels, you might could luck out and get a tv with composite or hdmi.

Not even hotels I've seen in the Seattle/Redmond area have TVs with HDMI. And I assume you mean component, not composite? :p

a ps3, is almost twice as heavy as a 360? How thick it is standing vertically is about the same as the 360, but the size overall is quite a bit bigger. I wouldn't carry my PS3 personally because I hate scratches on a glossy finish.

My PS3 case seems a bit squeaky and I also wouldn't want it to get all scratched up. Yes it is heavy, I have the original 60GB and I think the heatsink in it is pretty large.

I hope the hotels you go to have HDTV's. I'd personally get a PSP or play pc games on a laptop.

They're not exactly light... I'd probably consider doing it with a PS2 or Wii, but not a PS3.

Having taken my PS3 somewhat apart I can say they are built pretty durable on the inside. They are heavy as crap though. You would need to be careful buying games for hotel rooms though, because some games just don't look good unless you have an HD tv. I think it could take it though. Especially if you got one of those cases.

Not after you take the power brick of the 360 into consideration. The controller is also lighter on the PS3. You can't play any games if you only bring the console with you.

There's not much between them... but IMHO they're both too heavy to be carting around all over the place.

Agreed. I don't think either console is really designed to be moved around.

Nothing wrong with getting a PSP or DS, and you'd be able to play it on the plane. You could also get the TV-out cable for the PSP.

If you really want a regular console, then a slim PS2 is pretty light and the platform still has new games being released for it.
