Can you get more than 12volts running through the molex connector?

I thought I read somewhere a long time ago that someone combined the yellow and red (i think) wires to produce more than 12volts. Is this possible or is there a way of doing it?

Thanks!

No. The potential difference between the yellow (12V) and red (5V) wires is 12V - 5V = 7V.

Grounding to the red wire will give you 7V. However, combining the yellow and red wires and grounding your circuit to a black wire will give you 17V.

That is exactly wanted I wanted to know... So basically connect the red and yellow into the same molex connector will do it?

Thank you very much for your help

Into the same pin, yes. But whether or not it's safe depends on what you plan on doing. Please elaborate before you go out and actually do something, because I'd rather not be responsible for you trying something dangerous.

What are you guys talking about? Are you saying to connect the red and yellow voltage rails together? You shouldn't do that, you'll definitely fry something doing that. How many volts do you need and what for?

Where in the hell did you get this information?

You can get +/-17v from a PSU, but only if it has a -5v rail, and then you're limited to 2.5amps. You can also use -12v and +5v for +/-17v, and +12v and -12v for +/-24volts.

WTF? Makes no sense
