Some company has developed a mounting system for the iPod Touch that attaches to the side of a machine gun. Could be handy when you are out in the field with a little time to kill.

This just: Army Reports Soldiers death increases due to them watching their ipod videos during combat.
KAC contracted Runaway technologies to build an external ballistics calculator for the iPod Touch / iPhone named Bullet Flight. It is your standard ballistics application. You can set firearm / ammunition profiles, then call up the saved profile and enter your environment information, for example, distance, wind direction, elevation and temperature.
As I am sure many people have already noticed, it's not a machine gun, its a semi-automatic sniper rifle....
I was about to say the same thing.
err no edit....
Just a civilian AR-15 with some un-needed attachments in an ugly brown color. It's not even a sniper rifle, it just has a flashy large scope on it.
Waste of a fine weapon.

err AR-10, sorry.
prairie dogs ph34r these.
You sure? It could just be just one those nonstandard caliber AR15s?
Yep - It's an AR-10 (only its the military model) uses the 308 Winchester or the 7.62x51 Nato (basically the same)
And I wouldn't call it a sniper rifle the 308 goes subsonic and looses accuracy at about 900-1000 yards.
Haha, when I read machine gun, I was expecting an m249 or something mounted to a vehicle and I wondered to myself how many seconds of continuous fire until the internals of the ipod are completely destroyed

I can just think of the tunes that you can play while picking some insurgents off.

Exactly. The added magazine capacity and rate of fire will make up for any accuracy loss. I see this being issued for to a squad's designated marksman or to the spotter on a sniper team.Probably meant for a more urban environment type of sniping, in which ranges beyond 300-400 yards are not nearly as common, and the more rapid fire of a semi automatic is more important that the long range pinpoint accuracy of a bolt action.
The ar-10 is pretty much just a big ar15. The 7.62 bullets are longer then the max size for an ar-15. The gun is based off this larger rifle.
Another thing about this ipod mount. For the consumer market it might have a good place as well. From a consumer standpoint the mount has options. Get an iphone touch and be able to use it for the weekend range shooting. Nice plus.
Well the Ar10 charging handle is located in a different place, and the gun in the picture looked identical in look and function to an AR15. Thats why I was confused as to the call on the AR10.
Not quite, the AR10 has a pull to the rear charging handle exactly in the same location as the AR15; its almost exactly the same except its longer to make up for the longer overall length of the reciever to absorb the length of the 7.62x51 shell.
Its been a long time since I've seen one in person, but the only AR10s I had seen had the charging handle located inside the carry handle. Of course there are always revisions and I am by no means an expert.
So what you're saying is that the only difference between an AR10 and a .308 AR15 is the name? (and of course who owns the names)
AR10 is a .308/7.62x51 AR based platform... there isnt a .308 AR15. the 15/30 is really a designator between the calibers because the platform is nearly identical in function and design abiet the -10 being larger to accomodate the larger round.
Now you have a few different companies that change stuff and make it their own (IE like Knights Arma. here with the SR25) and I havent seen an AR10 with a charging lever coming from the top. Some companies setup AR's to be side chargers ala the FN FAL style.
Quite the versitale platform (I have quite a few ar's, ar10s and a few 15's in 6.8, 9mm and a 300 Whisper)
