Hi,

I'm only using this PC for text processing in Word Perfect. Which monitor do you think is better for this task - Dell 2407WPF with S-PVA matrix or HP 2475w with H-IPS.

TIA

My H-IPS NEC 2490 looks great once I turned ClearType off. I haven't knowingly used an S-PVA panel, and the H-IPS is way better than the TN I use at work.

In the Anandtech LCD Thread, the author has the HP 2475w ranked higher than the Dell 2408WFP (which replaced the 2407WFP) in the Office Work category.

For purely text work, I think the two monitors you are looking at both have minor pros and cons that you likely would not notice, and you wouldn't go wrong with either one.

Not to sound too opinionated, but this isn't even close... IPS rules in the text display category over S-PVA. The pixel structure is key. It negatively impacts the sharpness on S-PVA/MVA monitors a bit IMHO. Spend the slight extra and get the HP.

Here are some other close up shot of an H-IPS monitor left and MVA monitor on the right. The H-IPS is an NEC LCD2690WUXI and the other is a BenQ FP241VW (A-MVA). I would subjectively say that the IPS text is in reality sharper at normal viewing distance too.

Hope that helps.

Please turn on ClearType and take similar pictures, I'm interested to see what it looks like at a pixel level because my experience with H-IPS and anti-aliasing is not good.

that is with cleartype on. you see independent sub-pixel dimming there.

just from personal experience, i have a planar px2611w (ips) and a gateway fpd2485w (?va) next to each other. The text is excellent on both.
