How many of you are sick of this crap? Every time i play cod there's at least one idiot who has to hop to prone to get kills.

Does anyone know of any games where the player takes damage from hopping to prone? Realistically if you were to do it you'd get the wind knocked and possibly break some ribs...

Ah yes, I've seen this maneuver many times in BF2. I think it's called dolphin diving.

Yeah, very annoying. I have been on some COD4 servers were it was "banned". That is, you could get kicked for doing it.

annoying as shit. admittedly i started using the prone position in COD2 (and all subsequent COD games) and ended up binding it to one of the thumb buttons on my mouse. never the dolphin dive, but just going prone all the time which is just as annoying IMO. it became so habitual that i would do it even when i snuck up behind somebody. i ended up having to leave prone unbound so that i could no longer use it. i still hit my thumb button out of habit every now and then.

Gayest, cheapist fuckin move I've ever seen in online gaming. DICE should have caught that one before it shipped.

i havn't seen it in bf2 since they patched the dolphin dive . sure you can bhop and prone , but it doesn't really make it that much harder to kill them.

cod it's a different story since i mostly played hardcore mode and at that point usually only the first shot matters, but if i see someone bhop i assume the next step they take will be to prone.

however im sure there are macros to do it easily and quickly.

Really doesn't bother me at all. It isn't cheap, it's another step they take to make it hard to hit them and obviously it's working.

Learn to counter it.

Just find a tactical realism server, no bunny hopping or shooting , no rnging that is not using sights, no grenades, rockets within the first 15 -20 seconds of start(server specific).

while i think bhop and prone is fine etc simply because it's your fingers doing the work, i dont like the macro usage where they can do all those actions in order repeatedly with no effort.

it's still just a move tho and is really only handy in a knife fight or close combat.

They fixed it with a patch in BF2 long ago, just FYI.

People can still do it, but it is delayed enough now that you can easily kill them AND you cannot fire your weapon when jumping (which really sucks for other times IMO, I liked it before the patch cause I could still whip dolphin diver's asses).

Hate it, deeply, I've been on some BF2 server recently where clans enforce some really harsh realism rules, then bounce around like crack addled bunnies.

Not quiet as bad as the little scrotes in CoD4 who believe that jumping around a corner and firing a noobtube is a reasonable tactic, but close.

People do it because it completely fucked your hit box for a second or two allowing you enough time to rape the guy 2 feet in front of you.

Isn't this called "dolphin diving" or something? I remember when the devs patched out bunny hopping in call of duty 1 people started doing this. Then the devs released another patch where it took you a good couple of seconds to get back on your feet after being prone.

LMAO at binding moves like jump+prone. If you have to bind a key for that you might as well bind a key for uninstall while you're at it.

What the hell are you guys talking about? Dolphin diving in BF2? They got rid of it with the first patch, about 3 years ago now, LOL.

3 years ago? are you kidding me ... after 1 years of BF2 it wasnt fixed...maybe now... but who cares?

Someone never played BF2.

pigpen is right, and saying what I was trying to get across as well. It was fixed in BF2 a long time ago and fairly early on.

Want to get technical? It was fixed in patch v1.2 that came out in Feb. 2006. which was roughly 3yrs ago now and was 7 months after the game release (when still many were playing) (BF2 was released June 21, 2005). Frankly I think they ruined a lot of the gameplay in the patches as things to circumvent deceptive tactics (such as dolphin diving) also removed abilities like being able to shoot while jumping/falling/etc.

BF2 is still one of my favorite games of all time and I played it for years. I was damn good too, but like I said, much preferred the earlier versions before many of the newer patches.

the biggest problem is that poeple don't know the difference between dolphin diving and a normal jump prone crouch or whatever you like. i used to see poeple blaming others all the time for dolphin diving when they really weren't

like i said tho , macros are still a problem and you can still do some cheezy stuff with them.

They should make it so that it takes a couple seconds to start firing your gun once you hit the ground prone. Or if you jump and go prone make it so that your cross hair is all wobbly for a couple seconds once you hit the ground. I don't play BF2 anymore but it's just a suggestion.

It annoyed me, but unfortunately if you engineer it so it can't be done you end up with a game that feels clunky and shit, like DoD:S, It's a chore to get anything done in that game. It took them long enough to patch it so that it took less than a million billion years to bring ironsights up.

Also, just for the record, every time I've been paintballing I've had no trouble throwing myself around and diving to the floor and firing immediately. I guess the guns are lighter but if the objection is with the player not getting winded/broken ribs or something then I guess I and everyone else is superhuman because it's never bothered me or them, apparently, falling on logs and rocks and all. Imagine how much less of an issue it would be when you're pumping adrenaline and being shot at?

Jumping around beforehand though, yes, that is stupid.

YUP, i hate that move also, Ive been on a few servers where a guy was destroying people, or at least one of the top players in the server. I seen people complaining and , within a minute or two, I ran across him and was like WTF...

Just eliminate the prone position. Is it really needed? I don't recall CS having a prone position?

That's because it's a primitive game.

Really, CS isn't a benchmark. It's popular, but it's not well-made.

That is pretty much what they did.

Yes it is needed....

No, it was fixed years ago. I just think it is hilarious to hear somebody say they can't play a game now because of a problem with it that the developer fixed years ago. And that's not hyperbole. I mean literally, years ago. That would be like saying you still can't play HL2 because of the stuttering issue with nvidia's 77.77 drivers.

i said ONE of the many reasons i stopped playing... not THE reason

stop pointing out ridiculous hyperbole, it hurts peoples' feelings when you point out how silly they are being.

The only thing that was fun about BF2 anyways was putting C4 on the front of a jeep and ramming it into a tank jumping out right before and detonating the C4.

It can be as much fun hurtling along in a jeep towards an unsuspecting team-mate and then hopping out at the last minute so they get flattened but it doesn't count as a teamkill. I've had plenty of fun with that one when someone's being a dick.

Bunny hopping and dolphin diving suck in any game!

Ever play America's Army? That game does it right. After you jump there is a short delay before you can jump again. Also when going to prone, the character stops moving forward and are unable to shoot before you hit the ground. You can jump and go to prone if you choose to do so but 99.9% of the time you will be dead before the animation stops.

I think a lot of people get the going to prone animation confused with actual dolphin diving. There is an accuracy bonus for most guns in BF2 if you are prone so one of the first moves a lot of players do is go prone. Dolphin diving is much different, where you can fire your gun while going prone. They fixed this a long time ago in the game where you can only fire once you are prone.
Because you get that bonus you can take down a lot of players who don't know about it, especially if you get the jump on them and ge to prone before they get a shot off and then they accuse you of dolphin diving or hacking.

I do it all the time in BF2. It's a legitimate maneuver. You should learn how to do it and use it to your advantage instead of whining.
