6 yr old learns to drive a car from GTA?!?!

Yeah and when I was 6, I learned to fly a plane playing River Raid. The media just loves jumping on gaming any chance they get.

Clearly the parents were not going for any awards here. There is a reason people should have to apply to have children.

Maybe it's just me but the driving isn't as bad as the fact that a six year old was basically let loose to do as he pleased.

If he learned to drive from GTA then I guess he learned what I did from driving around in GTA. If you only kill a few people every once in awhile the cops won't bug you for awhile! They better go looking for dead bodies! :p

The hardest part is pressing a button to pull the guy out of the car.

I tried that recently, I smashed a car window, climbed in but then couldn't find the WASD keys so got out and legged it!

Haha

Learning to drive from GTA, what a load of shit.
The game is about as unrealistic as you can represent driving, not to mention gives you no clue about the wheel/gas/ect...

+1

Media really does hate games.

I still recall the "amazing" report by "Fox News" on Mass Effect.

Just to clarify... You feel it would be better to let the government be in charge of who can and can't have children? The same government that already farks up half of everything it tries to do? Despite how bad many parents are, the vast majority of them are far better at EVERYTHING than the government has any hope of being at ANYTHING.

Agreed.

As much as I would like to agree that certain people should not be allowed to have children, that is clearly against any sense of freedom and individual rights, on which the US was built on

Hold on a sec...
His parents, Jacqulyn Deana Waltman, 26, and David Eugene Dodson, 40...
That means he was 34 and she was 20 when she had the kid. Way to go, an older dude scoring a much younger girl.

US Citizens seem to have no issues giving up rights for temporary security so why not this?

Can you honestly say EVERYONE should be allowed to parent?

On Topic:
How did a 6 year old get GTA anyway

Most likely, they probably put their kids on a leash also, lol

Doubtful. These "good" parents usually sit on the couch while their kids are outside chasing balls in front of cars and then finally get off the couch after its sue time because it was OUR fault we hit them! OLAY! :p

You all are blowing this out of proportion. The quote the media added was given to the police by the six year old. The article isn't bashing GTA or Monster Truck Jam. It's not calling for any drastic gaming legislature to be passed. It's simply quoting a six year old, which you can't really take seriously anyways.

It's possible he did learn some basics though. While it's far from being real the simulated driving experience in GTA is similar enough to the real thing. I'm talking basics here. Driving between the lines, traffic lights, which way to steer the car, hitting pedestrians is bad, etc. Unfortunately it didn't do a very good job of teaching him since he still crashed the car. :p Looks like he almost made it though.

He made at least two 90-degree turns, passed several cars and ran off the rural two-lane road several times before hitting an embankment and utility pole about a mile and a half from school.

"He was very intent on getting to school," said Northumberland County Sheriff Chuck Wilkins. "When he got out of the car, he started walking to school. He did not want to miss breakfast and PE."

Hot Damn, Thats one eager kid. "He didnt want to miss breakfast and PE" Come to think of it how on earth did he reach the pedals and steer at the same time?

Also as others mentioned before why is a 6 year old playing an adult game with constant swearing, killing, prostitution and other obscene things. This game is 18 for a reason. I say give the parents a knockout punch to the face and make them pay for the damages the child caused!

That is the only question that really matters. Why is this kid playing a game rated for adults only? A parental problem obviously.

Truth is, any dumbass can operate a motor vehicle. I know, I drive in Tennessee every day.

I can fly a plane because i can fly in FSX.
(actually, this is probably true due to the actual skill involved)

Wow. It said that his mom was home sleeping so the kid probably has to get up get dressed and ready for school by himself and get to the bus by himself. No wonder he tried to drive to school by himself I mean if he had to learn to be that independent and self reliant he probably wouldn't even think of asking his mom to just drive him to school. And maybe he even did try to ask his mom who knows. I'm just amazed at how much he wanted to goto school. I mean if I was that kid and I missed the bus and my mom wouldn't take me I would've just skipped lol. But to think that he was only 6. Astounding. Super determined and resourceful he is like a baby genius.

I see it as crap. Kid learned from bad parenting. If the kid wasn't allowed to play GTA he would never have even got the idea.

Well, it's the kids fault - should not run ion fron of cars, need to look.

I would not say that... just think of the previous GTA games... as well as hundreds more whihc oculd be said to be less realistic... pm for a reply though :p.
