Thought it be funny to share this. The New BSOD is PSOD (pink screen of death). Probably just some driver error. But perhaps it could be a hardware defect / bad
batch. Seems to effect gtx260 and maybe 280s.

Ha, I have the exact same lcd. Good stuff eh?
Sorry about the card issues. :(

After reading the linked threads it has nothing to do with overclocking or drivers...and users are reporting
this PSOD along with BSODS. I'd be wary of purchasing a gtx260 / 280. Are these price reductions
a result of a bad batch? Just started to get me thinking for a second....because I was
going to purchase a zotac fcp gtx280 as it was dirt cheap at 700/2300 clocks.

Though I had a EVGA die running overclocked 648/1566/1161 24/7 folding, I've yet to see that on any of my 4 280s.

The one that died would lock the comp up once a new work unit started and kicked it into 3D mode.

EVGA was prompt to send a RMA replacement that's humming along with the 3 other monster folding cards. :p

Ive seen something similar but that was on a 7900GT and that was a memory issue. My GTX 260 has never had this issue.

i've been through a couple gtx 260s and havent seen that (thank god lol)

You know what that pink screen looks like...., it reminds of of those weird pictures they'd sell at the mall where if you'd stare
at it long enough, you'd be able to see a 3d image...you know what I'm talking about....?

Well that sucks, I just bought a GTX260 Core 216 (Superclocked) a few weeks ago.
...been working just fine so far though.

Eh, I was planning on stepping-up to the 55nm anyway...

Well just hope it isn't a defect that will eventually pop up I guess.

Drivers don't cause problems like that. That's a hardware/OC problem.

Everyone in the threads said they had the SC or SSC so it makes sense.

purple screen of death is a driver error...but when I had it, it was due to driver corruption, being caused by bad RAM...

I've never seen a PSOD without some accompanying hardware failure.

Actually there were several users that ran stock clocks on the Non-factory oc'd cards and the issue persisted. Sounds more like some kind of hardware defect of some sort. Maybe bad ram on the vid card, bad batch, faulty core, etc. I'd be hesitant to buy a 260/280. Perhaps the price reductions were seeing now is due to the high volume of defects.

I'm sorry but that's really jumping to conclusions and spreading a rumor with barely any kind of standing at all. It doesn't help your situation that you've been a member for 15 days and that we don't really know you around here so if anything you kind of appear as a troll when you jump to that kind of a conclusion. There is a possibility that you could have a bad memory chip on your board, but in no way does that affect the entire line up of GTX 200 series cards...

I'll have some of whatever you're smoking.

Well when a lot of users report it I don't see how it's a rumor, it's just a problem with
the cards obviously. Nothing wrong with speculation since the problem hasn't been
resolved or isolated yet. That's all we can really do is speculate. Hopefully they will find out the cause of this terrible and unfortunate issue.

I have a similar pink artifact with my 9800GTX+. Screen filled with small boxes and dotted lines, mostly shades of pink. But it doesn't occurs during 3D game, only when I play video files. Was using driver 180.xx WHQL

Switching to 178.xx WHQL, the problem somehow went away. Been using it for more than a week now with no problems at all.

Don't know if its a driver issue with nVidia drivers, or my card somehow have a minor defect that only shows itself with driver 180

I'll see what happens when nVidia release the next WHQL driver.

Were you using this tech tool to come to this line of thinking?

Why don't we wait and see what EVGA has to say about before you get the mat out again, eh?

FWIW, we have used a LOT of GTX cards and have never seen a PSOD....

I had a GSOD (Green Squares of Death) on the 3870 but it turns out it was overheating due to the SAME infamous fan control issue that plagues the 4800s (which I had to do the fix as well on my 4850 and 4870).

The 3870 is running perfectly now with 50% fan duty cycle.

My x1650 does that when I plug it into a 1080p TV through HDMI. :p So frustrating that ATI still hasn't fixed that bug.

I put an eVGA 9800GT in my wife's PC and woke up to the same thing right before xmas. Swapped it for a 9600GT with no issues, but seems odd this is plaguing multiple models?

It seems to be plaguing a lot of evga members so we shall see. Just from reading the two threads in the
first post it doesn't seem to be driver related, heat related, or due to overclocks...as people are
reporting it on GTX260 SSC versions, GTX260 core 216 standard clocked versions, GTX280s,etc. A lot
of them also report acceptable temps and still get the pink screen of death. Hopefully they resolve this
issue and a evga dude guy will report with good news.

That is very odd, but more reports are from gt200 series people.
Only time will tell. I just remember thinking back to when nvidia recalled the thousands of
laptop GPUs last year. Hopefully this isn't the same case here. If it is that would
be bad.

Look a schooner!

Anyhoo. Dwade, you do realize that anything that affects EVGA cards is going to affect pretty much ALL GTX cards seeing as how evga is only a reseller not the manufacturer right? Also, my 2 260s have been humming along perfectly fine for a few months.

I think the same thing happend a while back with some G80 core cards. I think it was a wrong value resistor bieng put on the boards by the OEMs. All though it didn't look exactly like that, a few more colors mixed in, but the same pattern.

I personally deal with many of these cards on a daily basis and i have not seen a PSOD. Also, upon reviewing your threads i only see 4 or so people with this issue out of thousands of those that have bought GTX260's and 280's. I will consult with someone in regards to this issue, but im pretty sure its just a bad Ram issue.

I had that happen to my BFG 280 a couple of months ago.

Well I have been one of the EVGA customers commenting on the forums about the pink screens with my GTX 260 216.

I have to echo what an earlier 9800GTX user said in this thread.

With geforce 178.24 drivers I can report zero PSODS, BSODs and any other type of sod :D or crash. The card works perfectly and is totally furmark stable at its factory SC speed. :)

However using any 180 series driver causes grey or pink screens. I have a feeling that Nvidia broke something in the drivers with OC'd cards...Also I have been meaning to contact Russian Haxor about this so that I can keep EVGA abreast of my situation. Could EVGA follow this up with the Nvidia driver team to sort this out for the next drivers as clearly the 178 series are great!

I also doubt that there is any major problem with GT200. These things happen sometimes and hopefully EVGA will continue their service to the highest of standards!

I am running a month old 260 SSC 216 and its running 180.48 and its fine. Then again I don't fold on it, I use my quad for that. But the few games I play on it (L4D, TF2, COD4/5, etc) are fine soooooo. Possible QC problem perhaps!

Bang! So true, but these companies have to take some kind of level of responsibility
and have some kind of quality control in place so that defects don't reach the consumers.
Perhaps the QC people over there were drinking too many cactus coolers or schooners of Bass? Not sure. In
EVGA's defense, these things happen to all manafacturers. Maybe EVGA just
got a string of bad cards delivered to their doorstep. Who knows.

Dwade, please submit an RMA to EVGA and once you've submitted the RMA please give me the RMA# so i can forward to the person in charge of this matter. This goes for anyone that has the same issue that cannot be resolved through standard troubleshooting measures, changing PSUs, sweeping drivers, etc. We are going to work on trying to solve this issue and get to the bottom of it.

Not had the problem, I'm not running an overclocked or self overclocked card though, how old was the card when it decided to fail?

i was under the impression that all they get are the ;processing chips, and they design the boards, the other chips, routing, cooling, all that, but they can of course follow nvidia's reference design.

if its not a chip problem, then it was their selection. even if it was a chip problem, they could've tested the batches more thoroughly and complained to nvidia.

nevertheless, evga is awesome and those customers will get what they deserve.

Hi,

Im the guys who started one of those threads on the EVGA forum. Thats my monitor in the OP.

With my card i found the problem to be with the shader clock speeds... anything over 1350MHz (stock superclocked speeds) and i would get the pink/green lockups.

Unfortunately i cant RMA the card because it runs ok at stock speed, i just cant overclock the shaders at all.

I suggested lowering the shader clock speeds to other people on the evga forum and it fixed their problems too. I guess some of the cards are just very bad overclockers.
