I love the look and layout of that case. I just hate the fact that it comes with a 300W PSU (I prefer to pick and choose my own)

SilverStone Technology introduced today SG05, a new member of the Sugo family of barebone computer cases. Measuring just 218mm x 276mm x 175mm, this is without a doubt a small form factor PC case that fits a mini-ITX or mini-DTX motherboard with two PCI slots, and single graphics that's up to 230mm in length. The case comes with a 300W PSU, and there's room for a slim laptop-like optical drive, as well as one 3.5-inch drive or two 2.5-inch drives. Cooling is provided by a single 120mm front mounted intake fan. SilverStone warns that processor coolers should be smaller than 82mm in order to fit inside. The front of the case also features audio outputs and two USB ports.

Ah so that would explain why it has only 2 PCI slots. :eek:
 
Actually, that looks very similar in size and design to my Shuttle. Same motherboard size, same PSU placement. Well, actually reversed, but very similar.

Now, if only there were some nice mini-DTX boards..
 
Nice. Now there is a case for the 780g Mini ITX board by Jetway. Thats tempting.
 
That looks alot like those Apevia cases. The QMicra. That kind.

Is it just me, or are Silverstone's new designs starting to suck? Or are they just running out of ideas?
 
They're all boxes, what do you expect them to do? Make a ball or pyramid (oops, been done!)?
 
space. I think this is an excellent lan and HTPC case. Put in a 1.5TB HD. Just lock the drive to a low read speed and it could be slient. :)
 
Cool. Now if only they made a decent ITX (or any kind of DTX) board with a PCIe x16 slot that didn't cost an arm, a leg and my left nut and we'd have a hot little case. So thanks a lot Silverstone for making an awesome case for an Atom mobo. :rolleyes: :rolleyes:

Most of you that use 5.25 drives also only use ATX or even m-ATX boards. If you are actually interested in ITX formfactor, then you'd also be interested in going slim drives. Personally, I think ITX cases that have space for 5.25 drives are wasting the space and is going against the reason why people are getting itx boards lol

Nice case. If I get an MSI Q35 board, I'll probably put it in that case. Could be a little smaller, but leaving it that size opens the door for bigger vid cards at a loss of an extra 3 to 4 inches in depth.

Was going to mod one of the MI-100 cases I ordered to put my Minix boards in and.....I'll be damned if that's not pretty much the picture I had in my head of how it'd be after modding lol. Shortening the length, taking off the front, cutting a big fan hole, make a new front out of .5" thick black plexi, wit holes for fan, buttons and slime drive.


Sugo 5= @ 8.6"x 10.9"x 6.9"

MI-800= 8.7"x 11.8" x 5.1"

ITX mobos= 6.7"x 6.7"

I like that they went taller. Says you can "only" fit in 82mm or shorter heatsinks, but that is great!!! With the Apex case, I am fitting in server heatsinks that are 36mm tall. I was trying to think up how to mod the APEX case so I get more space for a taller heatsink, but it would be too much trouble for that. The dual slot is great even if you only go ITX and not DTX, leaves you open to getting video cards that are dual slots. I wish Silverstone would have made the case with even less depth and stacked the optical drive on top of the PSU. That way, you can have a case that is 8.6"x 8" x 7" or so. It does limit you to what video card you can use, but some us are not worried about that for an itx build. Maybe that will be the Sugo 6?

Except there is a PSU and 12cm fan preventing that from happening...
 
Does anyone know if it fits a standard ATX psu?

EDIT: found out it's an SFX form factor. I'm passing on this one.
 
There are some decent SFX units. Remember this not meant to be a desktop or gaming computer, but HTPC and a nice little lan computer.
 
That's a pretty slick case, I saw that Silverstone also released a version of the SG04 without a handle and with no side window which I also like. I may go for that at some point, it looks pretty nice as well:

The handle was the main gripe I had with the SG04 (looked kinda dumb, and I don't need to take my case around much). It should be quieter than my SG03 too since there is less exposed mesh, but who knows. I guess it's new because I didn't see it on Newegg yet, but main point is I like Silverstone and I will probably buy their cases for a long time to come if they keep it up.

If you like that I'd also want to check out the SG03 if I were you. Also has 2 120mm fans :-P
 
04s been out a few months. Not something that interested me, looks like a Cylon.

Preventing what from happening? I think this case is aimmed squarely at people that want to build powerful ITX machines and keep it as small as possible. You kinda need good cooling and something better then a DC convertor for such a build.
 
I like the SG05 with exception of the power supply - it still restricts heatsink options. I'd prefer a short 1U power supply be fit into a small case like this rather than that bulky thing. Depending on this thing's overall dimensions, a 400w or 450w may have fit fine length-wise. Anything similar to the Shuttle G-chassis is my ideal case, but with room for a large cpu heatsink. Add an 80mm or two 60mm's to the back and the cooling capabilities would be great. It just needs a 4 x 1.5 x 8" area available for a small 1U.

The same concept goes for cooling in the SG04 but people have made it work for themselves using the psu fan for the cpu. I think the full ATX motherboard and power supply form factor itself is overkill for almost anything nowadays.
 
Um, you want a case for the smallest motherboard form factor out there but complain about heatsink height? Seriously? What do you want, a TRUE in there to cool that steaming Atom CPU?

DTX case requires a slim DVD.

Case material seems made of steel, not aluminum.

Overall, I like the size of case

ITX does only one expansion slot; DTX has two.

I can fit a TRUE in an Antec NSK1380 with a Lite-On standard sized dvd burner (Liteons have slightly less depth), 120mm fan in back, modded stock psu under middle hard drive bay (modified drive mounting bracket), 3 hard drives, with full expansion slot capabilities - use the rear 120mm and duct on the cpu heatsink. This can cool a Q9550 and HD4850 without any issue and I wouldn't expect any less from an i7 with a possible exception of the stock 350w power supply. I'd expect a decent heatsink (not the height of most of thermalright's offerings) to be able to fit in the SG05 if the power supply wasn't in the way. Depending on dimensions, it may be certainly plausible to modify the case to allow such functionality as long as a power supply can be modified to fit within the desired constraints to place it out of airflow's way. Better yet, place it in the way of airflow with plenty of ventilation holes so a single front to back stream cools every possible heat source. I'm all for remote mount power supply with extensions to the plug located at the back of the chassis.

They already put quad core on itx, I don't see why anyone should be limited to low consumption processors. It isn't about what is currently possible (mainly due to limitations of current standards), but what can be made possible. Someone just needs to take the first step. Silverstone has been going this route with their case designs and I hope they continue to move the direction they seem to be going with the Sugo series - make standard components fit into smaller and smaller spaces - all with good cooling potential so far.
 
Looks like it might be possible to fit a Mini Ninja in there, thats more then good enough for me if it's possible.

Even so, you could fit a 9" card in there, and if it has a dual-slot cooler that'd come in handy.
 
I actually put 3 3.5" hard drives in my SG03 before I sold it. Two 320GB ones in the normal mounting location and a 1TB drive where the floppy drive would normally go. No problems with clearance at all.
