Steam Weekend Deal: STALKER SoC $4.99

damn, TF2 , DOD:S, Red Orchestra and now this. Keep Going STEAM !!! The best way to buy games !

ALthoug I have to admit I do miss the discs !

That's what I thought. When times I've reformatted, never had an issue. It's stuck to your account, so obviously it probably won't let you login on 2 different machines.

yup, cant log in to two at once, but other then that its great! and they finally have EA games on steam! yay!

I don't think this game will even work on low settings on my 8600GT. :(

Are you sure? The recommended settings are a 7900 series. The 8600GT is usually only a bit slower.

So how did the game perfrom when it first game out? Was it brutal on hardware? You think my computer could play it at 19x12 with full setttings? Looks like a fun game.

edit: looks like i should get around 40-50fps... a few mods and i should be above 60fps.

Didn't the game have some weak widescreen? any fixes?

thx

I'm one of those people who got steam when Source was released. I was pretty unhappy with it for a long time. I remember when "Steam Friends" was the one button that everyone ooo and awwed at but could never use. Since then Ive been more and more happy with it. It's better than xfire now. I actually chatted with a friend for an hour ingame while playing Silent hill 3 which isnt even a steam game. Deals like this make me want to throw away all my cd's. where ever I am (I travel a lot) I can download whatever game I want to play in less than an hour.

so should I bother playing the original game or just go with the oblivion lost mod right off the bat ?

alot of poeple say the mod makes the game much more enjoyable.

I think you can just use it, although don't play on hell mode, its pretty ridiculous

Every weekend there's a deal ;)

Just unfortunately it's sometimes a game like Gumboy

So far though, I've got Titan Quest + Expansion, Prey, STALKER, Red Orchestra, Two Worlds, SIN games..... I've barely played any of them. I wonder why I keep buying them?

because they're all only $5 each... and you don't feel near the buyer's remorse if you were to pay $50+

this is why game developers need to lower prices.

In for one, thanks OP.

Also, question: is there a way to back this up to a removable media (DVD) after I download and install? I have a steam account, but I have never downloaded a full-version game before.

I bought one, price is good, dunno if its my type of game though (usually FPS, not RPG).

hey I want this a lot but unfortunately my current region doesn't permit it to be sold because of violence and such (I HATE YOU GERMANY). Could someone gift it to me and I'd pay you back fully with paypal? Message me if you are willing to help me out.

would gifting it be any difference anyway? just wondering.

I would definetely say get Oblivion Lost off the bat and don't waste time on Vanilla. I started with Vanilla for a month and then got Oblivion Lost and had to restart my game. I've been playing a year of OL and still haven't gotten that far in the game. Very good.

For the record, with Oblivion Lost and a few other good mods, I like this game vastly more than Fallout 3.

I liked it enough when I first tried it, so I bought it. Now maybe I'll actually finish it. It's a pretty good game if you ask me. I like the quiet and creepy atmosphere. For $5, it's quite a deal.

Still going? If so, I'm on my way to my wallet ....

There's a huge amount of content in the game. I'd say it would take between 30 - 40 hours to complete the main storyline and all side quests. Way more than 5 dollar's worth.

=-( It seems most (well, all of them) of the servers online require a newer build SIGH. I wish I could take it back.

Just right-click on the game. It even lets you break it up into various sizes for burnable media. :)

Yeah I saw that too. Steam is only upgrading to 1.0005 while all the servers are on 1.0006 patch, which is a multiplayer-only update basically anyways... wonder why Steam won't update to the latest though.

Can you please share with us what mods aside from Oblivion Lost you used? I'm liking the vanilla campaign as it is right now but if many are saying it's better, then I'm up for it.

I downloaded this file, but it doesn't seem to be installing correctly....

http://stalker.filefront.com/file/Oblivion_Lost_Weather_Overhauled;93449

It installs Oblivion Lost, Weather Overhaul, SHARPER textures (where did that download go? I can't find it ANYWHERE now except part of this package), and Sky4CE. Problem is I install it correctly into the Steam - Stalker folder, but when I start the game it says my video card does not have Pixer Shader 1.1... I have an 8800m GTS

DANGIT. I missed it. Appears dead now. Man ... I wish I'd jumped on this sooner. :(

LOL, sorry man... doesn't cease to amaze me though that people forget that this is a weekend deal... every weekend... over by noon on Monday....

Dude. With holiday hours at the retail store where I work, my brain is so fried. I've been working extra hours and have had 6 days straight w/o a day off. Customers literally line up for help in my store and it's a mad rush ALL DAY every day. My feet hate me right now, and my brain doesn't work half the time. Plus I usually get home around midnight every night because of our stupid special hours this year. I promise I'm not being dumb on purpose.

This game was on target clearance for like 3$ when I worked there haha, I never played it, probably never will.

Good god, my system can't handle this game at 1680x1050. I can't get 60fps when you first walk out of the shed, and see the grass field.

Poor programming...

1.006 is an unofficial patch.
