Hi there everyone, first post but ive been reading on and off for over a year here.

Im building my second pc (i did the first 7 years ago!) and im trying to make a descision with lcd displays. Its the first time to buy one so im a little bit hesitant. Ive dont tons of reading of previous posts, the sticky here and one on anandtech that my heads spinning but found some ideas. heres a breakdown

Budget:
ideal: upto $450 dollars
BUT if theres a magic screen that makes the panties drop for an extra $150 then i may consider. It has to be that much more special though.

monitor primarly used for:
Programming.
Amateur web design (ie. analy correct colours not needed but do want something decent enough)
Reading pdfs
browsing - a lot!
so easy reading and little headaches a biggie! Sharp text!
Plus gaming when theres time. I like fps games generally. Its been ages so trying out stalker or crysis would be great. Im not a pro and it will constitute only 35% of time spent on pc. not priority but want to avoid ghosting!

DO NOT require
ps3 or xbox compatability. I dont own them or plan to.
home cinerma use. Ill watch stuff on my tv if it saves me money.

planned graphics card:
4850 crossfire or the 4870. Im researching this but they seem to be in my budget. I donk know the ups and downs of crossfire (its been 7 years since i last researched graphics cards) but i heard on some posts either should be powerful enough for 24inch)

currently spotted in person in shops
benq 2400v reviewed by 10e and others plus its predessecor.
acer samsung t240
lg w2600vpf (im in japan so perhaps this is a local thing, cant find it on these boards)
acer p243 aid
some mistsubishi and i.o.data screens (are these japan only?)

the above all looked good but they only had static destops as examples so wondering what you guys/girls think. Its nice to get a go ahead off others on expesive purchases.
The benq is looking like the one and is obvisouly a favourite on these boards but a lot of the users have ps3s and xboxes. That feature will be wasted on me so im thinking perhaps there maybe a monitor which suits my needs better.

Given the above do you think i would be good with the benq or something else?

Sorry its a long post but just want to be as specific as possible.

Take a look at the lenovo l220x. Its a 22inch S-PVA LCD with a 1900x1200 resolution. Its 355$ from provantage.com.

I think 1920 x 1200 on 22" may result in too smal pixels.
What about BenQ G2400WD? Shoule be very close to V2400W, only less stylish and less expensive :)

I find that the AMA on the V2400W helps a LOT with gaming, but if your primary purpose is work then you'd probably want teh G2400WD.

If you're going for an TN panel could as well go for an iiyama monitor. There cheap and are good enough.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Well im in japan and prices are quite different here, so i found out. I originally thought the v2400 would be a good choice but it was around $550 dollars. The G version was $350 so it was a nobrainer. Ive yet to get all my parts so havent had time to check it out but im sure it will be great.

Thanks again!

Maybe in Japan there are also monitors which are not usually available abroad? :)

yes mitsubishi monitors are talked about quite a lot here but never here about them on these boards. They are more expensive though so didnt look at them much

I don't use the AMA on the V2400w except for 30fps games (like Halo3) .... the AMA on the BenQ uses BFI which if what I have read is correct means the actual FPS is limited to 30fps as the 60hz monitor inserts a black frame after every real frame. The AMA does speed up the response time IMO and feels quick for 30fps I use it for but for PC games 30fps just feels weird.

Well, AMA Z should reduce percieved ghosting, but some people find it quite annoying. But it can be always turned off. But I'm unsure about it reducing the max FPS.
