I plan on using Vmware or Virtualbox. to run a guest OS for Torrenting 24/7. I am using this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833106123 anyway, currently over my 6meg Comcast connection I am getting as much as 750kb/sec with enough seeds. will the virtual NIC that gets emulated cut that down any? I know I wont get the full capabilities of the Host OS, but is that 750kb/sec possible in the guest?

yes it will just be sharing the bandwidth, if you are not downloading anything with the host OS then you would get pretty much full speed in the virtual OS

Question: What is the benefit of using a VM for torrenting? What's wrong with running it in the host OS?

for me its this.. I have a quad core rig and two monitors. I want to game exclusively on the host as to not introduce spyware/virus' etc. then websurf, download, IM on the second screen in a Virtual environment that way I can game and see whats going on without Alt tabbing out of my game.

Ok the system is running and this inst accurate. I got between 750-900 kb/sec. in the host. I stopped it and continued the download in the Virtual OS. and it wouldnt go pass 39kb.. I stopped the virtual and went back to the Host and it immediatly went to 60..250.320 all the way up to 750kb. settings are the same in both OS's the client is Utorrent.

Any warnings in Utorrents lower bar ?, also how much memeory/cores are you allocating ? what version of VMware are you running ?

If you had setup/modified the uTorrent settings on the host machine previously, did you copy the settings files over to the virtual?
