California's Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger gave a speech at the Solar Power International conference that basically said a sustained commitment to clean technologies can aid the country's economic recovery.

"We must not give in to those that say that environmental goals should take a back seat until our economy comes back," Schwarzenegger said. "It's backwards thinking and just plain wrong." He said that in many cases, "what's clean for the environment can be green (as in money) for the economy."

Agreed. Spend some money on making cheap solar for homes and businesses and a whole new industry will get rolling. Environmentally AND financially green. Instead, lets pay off rich bastards who don't know how to lend money intelligently.

and then drove off in this 2008 SRT8 Challenger! :D

I just wish companies would stop hiding behind the "environmentally friendly" badge when they start cost-cutting. I get mildly irritated by messages left in hotel rooms asking you to re-use towels rather than putting them out to be washed because it's "good for the environment".

Environment my ass, they just want to save money on detergent.

Actually if I'm not mistaken he's among the first who purchased a Tesla Roadster. Granted, that may not be what he rode in on, but still. Green (as in color) SRT8 Challenger FTW? :D

Well, it helps to get people more conscious of wasteful behaviour, so nothing to be pissed off about. every little bit counts. I do agree the "environmental friendly" badge is kinda bogus, because really any waste is NOT friendly... but at least it shows they are trying, and that's what matter I guess.

I just wish Arnold had mentioned that he was a liberal when he ran for Governor.

Hopefully this will turn out as well as all of those windfarms on the I-10 from Phoenix to LA. Most of them aren't even working.

And parked it amongst his collection of Hummers and exotic cars in his 11,000 Brentwood estate. Sometimes you will find him parking at his Hyatt Suite which is 65,000a year, or one of his vacation homes in Idaho or Massachusetts

If I had as much money as he did, id have way more toys, dont be jealous.

Nothing about jealousy, lol. It's all about being a hypocrite. You can't be serious about "green" and saving the environment when you have private jets, large yachts, and mansions spread across the world.

Lead by example. Nothing more. Nothing less.

so the only way to be green to live as if you were middle class?

Plenty of middle class people drive gas guzzlers, have homes that aren't energy efficient and are forced to rack up massive electric bills from AC and heating, etc.

so the only way to be green to live as if you were middle class?

No. The only way to tell OTHERS how to live green is to do so yourself. Telling me that I should cut down on my SUV and change my lightbulbs while you have a private learjet and a yacht which would consume more energy in one day than the life of my suv is bullshit.

You lead by example. This would be like someone telling me to buy import but drives a domestic.

FWIW - Be careful not to assume too much about me.

I'll take his comments for what its worth, he is very smart about the economy.

... But his state budget is BILLIONS in the red. (Not that I'm bragging; it's also my home state.)

In this case, it is FWIW. However, it's hard to take the message seriously if you can't do the same with the messenger.

I'll take him seriously when he ditches his seven hummers.

if a murderer tells you that murder is bad, he's a hypocrite, now, is it OK to kill somebody just because the person who told you not to do it is a hypocrite?

exaggerated? yes, but the logic is right

I just think it's hypocritical coming from someone who owns a crap load of property (that the general population doesn't require to survive, we seem able to get by with a single bedroom in some cases) and made Hummer tax exempt for businesses as soon as he got in power (fortunately that fell through within the same year), and he has at least 7 Hummers not one gas guzzling, requires the daily export of oil from the far east to run a few miles to the store, Hummer but "7!!!" (one for each of the family?).

Comparing murder to the misuse of finite resources and materials is a little bit different, and a hard comparison to make sense of against people being murdered?

He's got 7 H1's, 2 H2's, 1 H3, a 360 Modena F1, Pinskower (small austrian millitary tank converted to be used on roads), and now a Tesla and a SRT8 Charger... who knows what else.

Just thought I'd put it out there.

You guys need to chill out a bit and look at the bigger picture. Who gives a shit what he has. It doesn't make him wrong. I'm no tree hugging hippie who scream bloody murder at SUV drivers and smokers, but a line has to be drawn somewhere, particularly in the big industries or we'll end up just like China.

The problem is I've tried telling people to go green and I drive a Prius, but no one listens to me because who the hell am I? In order to get the message out you need people with stature unfortunately that usually means money which means toys... all the hollywood homos can drive their little eco-firendly cars to big events all the want, when they go home and jump into their 10000 gallon hot tub that's been kept at the perfect temperature for the last month they were away shooting a movie, does it mean the message is any less valid?

Not to mention the consumption of resources to build those vehicles. It doesnt really matter if someone bought 7 H1's, and never drove them a single mile thus never burning fuel... the metal had to be mined out of the earth, the plastic/rubber parts came from oil, water was used to wash it, electricity was used to melt the iron/steel into parts and peices, and at several tons in weigh each, thats quite a load.

I dont like the idea of buying a new "green" thing, to replace something else just for the sake of "going green". Sure your massive LCD television might be more efficient than your old CRT tv, but now you have an old CRT tv sitting in a land-fill, and the resources to build the LCD. If you are telling the public to do something, its not a small-scale thing... millions of people, and ideally hundreds of millions (assuming everyone follows).

Hey California politicians: Spend less money than you take in, and then use the S U R P L U S to do whatever the fuck you want with green energy.

If you're not a Californian, perhaps you are unfamiliar with Proposition 10 on the current ballot.

It would give hefty rebates to those buying new, alternative/energy efficient vehicles. Now, if you can afford to buy one of those in the first place, odds are you don't need a rebate from the state to do so, especially at the expense of poorer taxpayers who can barely afford to put gas in their older vehicles.

I'm generally against most bond issues. This one's $5B that will cost the taxpayers $10B after interest. 58% of the funds would go to vehicle rebates, including some up to $50K to replace diesel trucks.

You got a link to that? They want to replace diesel?! Damn, I didn't know they are that bassackwards.

No, but I was involved in a survey on this the other day where I previewed some tv commercials (not sure if they're all currently running or not since I don't watch much tv) that specifically said funds from Prop 10 would be used to help remove older diesel trucks from the road and replace them with more energy efficient ones.

Much more importantly, it's hypocritical for someone who first ran for governor on making Cal-ee-for-nee-ah more business-friendly by reducing regulations and the cost of doing business. Then he pushed mandatory healthcare and this green nonsense. Yeah, that won't drive businesses elsewhere.

Very true, I said the same thing as I was doing a burnout in my 05 Mustang GT yesterday. :D

I've got a 2005 Pontiac GTO and it gets 28mpg running a 6.0L LS2 V8 like the Corvette uses. My "gas guzzler" isn't the problem.

Look the Govanator's CPU a neural net processor, a learning computer. The more contact he have with humans, the more he learns.

IIRC, this is the "T.Boone Pickens" energy plan, and it's most likely on other State's ballots either, doesn't take much to get a ballot in though, either a bunch of signatures or a bunch of money.. .guess which route they want.

BTW, if you're really curious

Replace California with any state and you're pretty much spot on. Problem is the larger the state the less potential income you can get. Doesn't help that there are certain laws on the books that keeps the property value of homes kept within the family at reasonable levels, granted I love the law because I'm paying property taxes on a house that's valued at around 45k even though (pre-meltdown) it could have been sold for 800k.

Besides there would be surpluses if governments didn't have the "If you don't spend it you lose it, and don't get as much next year" mentality. Why the fuck should I not just squander all the money this year? If I don't next year they won't give me as much. Love it or leave it.. it's the American way of life.

so what he jumps on the environmentalist bandwagon (all political partys have environmental issues as a key point of their argument) and all of a sudden we forget that he's a steroid pumping semi-literate mutant. Anyone can jump on the global warming frenzy gripping the planet. But if you eat a cow or two for breakfast, and get flown around everywhere in a helicopter you're hardly one to talk about being an environmentalist and tightening the noose around the necks of people who rely on cheap abundant fuel to survive.
the day this guy takes some pronounciation classes, then i might listen to him, but for somebody who has lived in a english-speaking country for so long to not be able to speak properly is ridiculous..

Seemed to work out really well for Al Gore. Never saw anyone mention how green George W. Bush is or how green his home is.
