Recently I have been reading a lot about publishers of major titles such as gears of war 2 and duke nukem will not be coming to the pc. Why? It seems that a lot of publishers are afraid of going to the pc because of piracy. Who are to blame? The gaming community as a whole for being too tech savy. Look at it from their shoes. If we release a game on the pc, will it turn out like spore and have a full cracked version online before the game even releases, or are we going to have to put a shit load of drm on it. We as a gaming community need to stand up as a whole against piracy because we are now getting depprived of really good games that should have been on the pc in the first place. Game devolopers look at consoles and not drm for the solution because they know that piracy is pretty damn low compaired to the pc. So I ask now to please stop the piracy so people won't be affraid to put a decent game on the pc.

wow. that is the dumbest post i have ever read. I agree with it but its still dumb. There is no way to stop it. If there was don't you think they would have done it by now? People are not going to stop downloading games. Its just that simple. And i think downloading games is great because it allows me to play OLD classic games that I can't find in any stores. Like for example fallout 3 is coming out the end of this month and I want to play fallout1 and 2 but i lost the cds. So how am i supose to play it? I just download them.

I think the future of gaming is like steam. Fair priced downloads will make me pay for the games. Like the other week i saw that had a promotion for stubbs the zombie for 5 bux. a game i never played before and i would like to play. So I bought it. But ya... i dunno. There is no way to stop this epidemic.

Dear noob, have you ever once read the gaming boards before? This has been discussed 100's of times.

BTW, PC gamers don't care about GoW2, and Duke Nukem Forever has been delayed for 10 years or more now. It's a joke. No one cares anymore.

but that is not the point. I understand that there are some hard to get games out there and downloading is the only alternative, but there is no reason why people should be downloading a game before it even comes out. I down care for those mentioned games either, but just imagine if they said that we were not going to release farcry 2 and battlefield 3 on the pc because of piracy. I would be fucking pissed. If more publishers would invest there time into programs like steam, the problem would not be so big. As for piracy, I did my part and stopped a long time ago. The only thing I do now is download games I have bought before, which is not illegal, and play to my hearts content. As for blade, I just don't want my computer which I only use for gaming go to waste, why is it wrong for the subject being discussed 100's of times. It's like saying we hope ati dies out because our loyalty is with nvidia, which in turn nvidia can charge what ever they want and I will gladly pay for it.

well the way i feel is i have wasted toooo many of my hard earned dollars on horrible piece of shit games like diakanta or however you spell it so if a game is worth buying like ut2004 or halflife 2 i'll buy it :)

I'm not pirating games, so don't even try to tell me to stop "the piracy". Fair enough?

EDIT: You do know there's a PC Gaming sub-forum, right...?

we should just all teach the console guys how to mod their xbox and get games for free........

then they'll come whimpering back to PC's, lol

on a serious note, i hate gears of war....

and duke nukem was good back in like 95 when you had dukenukem 95 or 98 or w/e, idk if i could stand for a realistic version....

this. GoW looked meh, GoW2 looks like even more of the same meh. And if a game isn't going to be released on PC...OH WELL, one less game I'm going to spend my money on, there's plenty of other PC games out there to buy.

the games I play now are outdated (cs:s, 2142, bf2, tf2) because the recent games to come out have been a piece of shit. This topic was not intended to troll, just to voice our oppinion. I know we alone can't stop piracy, but we can fucking do our fucking part. And for the people thinking I am a noob and bullshit, I am glad you guys are so active at helping stop piracy of newer games. Is there anyone with something intelligent to say about the subject. If you don't like the topic, you don't have to read it. I know it is nice to have stuff for free, but in the long run we are basically shooting ourselves in the foot just like with the oil and car industry.

i see these kinds of posts weekly

nothing new to see here

I guess my point is mote. I will sit in my corner and do nothing from now on.

Well, if it makes you feel better I used to pirate PC games exclusively. I mean, when I was younger I actually had the opinion that it was ok to spend so much on a gaming rig since I basically got the games for free.

The more I read on the piracy problem, and saw how it was affecting my hobby, the more I came to realize "I" was the problem.

So now, I pay for all my games, and you know what? They all work, no worries about patches ruining my crack, no glitches from some currupted files, no viruses, no hassels. Not only do I not feel like a scumbag, but my 3k plus gaming machine can run what I want when I want with no worries.

Just my rant.

^^^ same story here. and i agree with the OP. nothing wrong with him voicing his opinion on a public forum. who cares if a topic has been discussed before, that's the point of these forums - to discuss shit.

The PC market is too large to stop making games for. There is money to be made. Someone will make the games.

Sure some big name devs are making noise about how they're abandoning the platform. Fine. We'll buy other games.

PC gaming in not dieing. Piracy, while a problem, which unfortunately has no simple fix, is not going to kill all PC games. There will still be someone making games for and making money from the PC market.

I think the major issue is you can't compete with free. As long as you have an option for people to get a free version with little hastle, having a product at any cost will have a hard time selling.

I also agree that for every pirated games does not equal a lost sale. Plain and simple. I compare it to hot sauce packets at tacobell. If we had to pay a 1$ for each hot sauce packet, I assure you I wouldn't be throwing away so many unopened packets when I'm done eating nor would Taco bell need to produce as many. So it's unfair for Tacobell to think "if we made 1 billion taco sauses this year, that's 1 billion$ in revenue were loosing". I'm pretty sure that would decline significantly if each person had to pay for one.

I must admit in the early days of file sharing most people I know had gigs upon gigs of unpurchased MP3s. However now most of those people reverted to itunes after the whole crack down and fear of being sued. I don't see the torrent system changing until an RIAA type war where people are fined and jailed.

The only problem I have with steam is the charges. Maybe I have been around to long but I remember publishers saying the cost to package the item was the most significant. Now with steam, on many occasions, I'm paying the same exact price if I go to purchase it locally. I would like to purchase more titles through a steam like system but when I have a choice of buying something physical for less (especially on sales upon release), why would I spend more when essentially someone else is pocketing the money and not sharing in the cost savings?

Either case I have boxes upon boxes of unopened PC games that I purchased as I found them on sale at one time or another. I also purchase all my games, never pirate. I find a demo if available, wait for consumer reviews, prior to release and never buy on release day only accept for a few.

So I know I'm doing my share but personally I recently migrated towards consoles and find myself playing more on them just due to the experience and most of my friends are on there. The con was the obvious lack of Keyboard and Mouse but everything else has been pretty possitive. Not for everyone but figure I have my options open no matter where the market is heading.

When did a legit source state that Duke Nukem Forever wouldn't be coming to PC? (I'm just making a point here as it isn't likely coming to anything because it will never be finished or released.)

You can go ahead and try to stop piracy all by yourself.
But I think the majority of PC Gamers (and people who know about torrenting) will not stop pirating games because of this simply:
Why pay for a game you can get for free?

It's not only PC games; PSP, Xbox 360, Wii, and soon the PS3 will be cracked to play pirated games.

PC gaming isn't the only thing being "negatively" affected by it. And it's a crime itself when a new game is around $50.

Good luck protecting all six platforms from piracy.

I said legit source. Fudzilla isn't a legitimate source. I doubt you'll find many people on this forum that would disagree. Sure they are right occasionally but if I make 5,000 predictions a month and make up news as I go along I'd be right occasionally as well.

Their batting average for getting news right is shit. I'll wait to hear something reliable on this.

If charging 50$ is a crime that will provide me entertainment, I would like to see what you call that tank of gas I just filled up on;)

The only way to stop piracy (outside of excess DRM) is with legal recourse. (I'm serious) Right now plenty of people break the law and download games, because there is no penalty. Just wait until the gaming industry gets fed up and starts taking action on an individual level, they'll be hated more than the RIAA. I bet a hell of a lot less people will people downloading games if it could land them a hefty fine and jail time. Just you wait... it's coming.

Get a better job and stop stealing money from programers that spent a lot of time making that game.

And does anyone remember nintendo and saga games costing 70 bucks for the longest time. Nobody cried rape then, so why now?

Games have stayed around $50 for the past 15 years, yet development costs have multiplied many times over. Gaming is also one of the cheapest forms of entertainment. A night at the movies can easily you $20 for a two hour movie, a $50 game on average will give you 20 hours of entertainment, multiplayer online games can give you hundreds of hours.

Duke Nukem Forever coming to 'Xbox only' is probably referring to only the console version. As in, you won't see a PS3 version, but a PC version is out of the scope of the person who was asked the question.

edit: And here's possible proof that their logic is basically complete BS - DNF is being developed on XP link

That doesn't mean anything. Final Fantasy 13 is being developed on PC and it's almost certainly not coming out for that platform. DNF is almost certainly going to be released for PC though.

Good job with the terrible argument there. Piracy is obviously a function of income and has no other factors whatsoever.

I will argue though that $50 for a PC game is cheaper than the $40 we paid in the early 90's, as if you look at $40, and take a constant 3% inflation, you're at $53.75 after ten years, meaning that paying $50 today would be equivalent to paying $36.90 or so ten years ago.

It holds just as much, if not more water than that stupid Fudzilla link.

Thank you for your oppinion, which I will respect. These are my oppinions and should not be taken to heart. I am just ranting about the issue. If you don't agree, that is cool. If so, that is cool too. The way I see it, piracy is just like fucking your best friends wife, it's cool at first, but in the end you wish you wouldn't have done it in the first place.

Have we nominated anything for Thread of the Year 2008 yet? This thread has to be nominated, guys.

This thread if full of fail

I retract all my arguements.

I fully agree with Freeze; this thread is nothing but epcik phail.

People are always going to Pirate movies and games, people will always crack security somehow, and people will always find ways around things.

It's like how Machiavelli stated; it's just how human nature is.

I made no statement of opinion there.

Any argument that piracy is a direct function of income is dead wrong.

god, I resisted getting into this thread.... fuck it... lol

I don't think piracy is anywhere NEAR the same ballpark as fucking your best friend's wife, man. (I know you were just using it as an analogy... but.... bad analogy... lol)

You know why it's a bad analogy? Because wishing you wouldn't have pirated a game is like wishing you hadn't dubbed your friend's cassette tape, or burned their music CD.

Do you, after seeing all the stuff the RIAA does, regret copying a friend's music CD in the 90s, and let that guilt well up inside you and blame yourself for the current state of affairs of digital copyright law?

Fuck no.

And if you do, you need a fucking life. Go get laid, or go play a game, and shut the fuuuck up! lol (no offense :D )

edit:

on another point- if anyone... ANYONE.... is even ENTERTAINING the idea that duke nukem forever would not be offered on the PC.... they need to put down the crack pipe, and back away slowly lol (watch, this will come back to bite me in the ass..... lol)

Lol, funny thing is the demo of Diakatana wasnt all that bad. Its when they blasted the team that made it and started over that it went to shit.
