Unknown Device in Device Manager

I've recently moved to Vista, and I've noticed an Unknown Device under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" in Device Manager.

I have a Biostar TForce 6100-939 motherboard with the nForce 410/GeForce 6100 chipset. I only have an MX510 plugged into a rear USB port, and the front panel USB ports hooked up (which do work just fine).

Location says "Port_#0008.Hub_#0001"

Any ideas what to do about this?
 
The obvious question has to be asked although most of us knows to do this: Have you installed the nForce driver yet?
 
Do you have a serial mouse you could connect and remove the USB mouse as a test? Feels like there's a driver issue with the MX510.
 
Windows Update doesn't show any possible hardware driver you might need?

Nope.

The mouse is in Device Manager as "HID-compliant mouse" just like it was in XP. I suppose I can unplug it and see if the Unknown Device goes away.

But the entry is under USB controllers. Whenever I've had a USB device plugged in without an appropriate driver in XP, I think it showed up under USB devices or something like that.

(Serial mouse?? :p)
 
rofl I think he meant PS2 mouse.

Next he'll suggest networking with null modem cables ;)
 
I'm at a loss. All I can think of are minor hardware or devices that might be overlooked. CompactFlash card readers, SD card readers, anything that uses USB port from inside your computer such as your sound card..

Port_#0008.Hub_#0001 is a location code. You just need to find out WHERE that location is and you'll be able to see what's plugged into it (or integrated into it).

Some forums say a Logitech Force EX is plugged into it, some says a HID mouse device is plugged into it. Some guy's complaining their USB expansion hub isn't recognize (not enough power draw maybe?).
 
When I get home, I'll go unplug everything plugged into any internal or external USB port and see what happens.

Hey, careful. My MB has a serial port, and the computer I just built for someone had a serial port. They're necessary for some and I don't want to see them go ;)
 
I have an unknown device in my device manager list. It's the component for AMD Live, which from what I've read, is only available on oem machines. I've never looked for a driver for it, so I don't know if it's possible to get or not.
 
With everything unplugged, and all USB headers unplugged, it's still there. I'm at a loss.
 
This is with no USB devices whatsoever plugged in, and immediately following a complete uninstall and reinstall of all nVidia and nForce drivers:

All 8 actual USB ports function 100% normally.

In Device Manager, there are 2 USB root hubs - one Full Speed, one High Speed. They don't seem to be tied to physical ports. The Unknown Device is listed under the Full Speed root hub.
 
If you're not getting any yellow exclamation points or red alert icons, what's the problem? Your Device Manager is clean, sooo...

And Deacon's suggestion was one I would have made myself: go get the Device ID info, the 4 digit Vendor ID then the 4 digit Device ID and punch that into that website, it'll get you on the path to resolving it if this is truly that important.

Gives me problems with Sleep mode, which I use quite often. It gives a large error about a USB device not being recognized every time I come out of sleep.

There's no vendor name or other identifying information in Device Manager.
