Anybody remember the liquid cooled G4

... was supposed to come out around the beginning of the new millenium? I'm racking my brain because I don't remember what it was called or who made it (obviously not Apple). The key things I remember:

  • It was a dual processor
  • It had an interesting aluminum case, it looked similar to an old microphone from the 50's http://jenslapinski.files.wordpress.com/2008/03/microphone.jpg
  • It ran overclocked at something like 1.2ghz (back before Apple broke the 1ghz barrier)
  • I don't think it ever materialized, but I think it was determined to not be a hoax.

I was talking about this to someone today who claimed to be a big Mac head and he says he never remembers this thing. I tried google and for the life of me can find nothing. Tried searching old articles on Macnn and couldn't find it on there either. Anyone else remember this thing? Anyone know what happened to it? I know I didn't just dream it...
 
Not answering your question at all, but I do know that Apple released water-cooled G5 PowerMacs.

There website shows up on archive.org, but it looks like the only thing that got archived was the opening flash animation. Don't suppose anyone knows what happened to this thing? It was really big news back in the day as Intel overtook Apple in the race to the ghz barrier. Alot of people were wondering how Apple would fire back since the "Velocity Engine" in the G4 proved to be kind of underwhelming.

@UnknownSouljer - thats interesting that they were trying to make it quieter, not overclock. I used to have a MDD at work. The thing was super quiet.

Really? I used a dual 867MHz MDD and then a dual 1.25GHz MDD, they were both very loud computers. They were nick-named "wind tunnel" for a reason.

Mine is not.. Its in my guest bedroom and it makes my 360 sounds mute...
 
My MDD was anything but quiet as well, it was around 50 decibels, no kidding. So, I could definitely see why they would want to make it quieter, the MDDs were nicknamed "Wind Tunnels" for a reason!
 
I do recall the nicknames and all of the complaints from owners. I even remember when apple had a recall of the power supplies due to noise issues (I was eligble, but never bothered). My MDD was set on the floor right next to my desk. At startup it really did sound like a vacuum cleaner. Not joking: after it booted into OSX it sounded almost as quiet as my cube when it was sitting on my desk next to my monitor. Perhaps my MDD was defective, but it sure did serve me well for my days as a web designer.
