I am NOT [H]ardcore gamer, I play about 5-10hours a week, but when I do play I really like to get into the game (cant wait until we can have 'usable' light guns for FPS!). Anyways, I get into racing games about 1/3rd of my play time, so its not critical that i have the best imo, but i was wondering, from those whom might have experiance, is the G25 REALLY that much better than a MOMO? If so I just might pick one up.

Thanks for any input!

It's not entirely necessary to buy a G25 (although I admit it's a very well contructed product. There are actually times when it's easier to use paddle shifters (ie:downshifting on hairpins and counter steering) That is when it's a bitch to use the G25. (shift to 2nd,one hand is counter steering for half a second, level out, and go back to third.

With paddle shifters you have your hands on the wheel the entire time

  • The G25 has paddle, sequential, & H-shifting with clutch support
  • Momo has paddle & sequential no clutch
It's a matter of pereference, both wheels are good. I own both

+1 from current g25, and previous MOMO owner. I vote G25, all other cheaper priced wheels just fail in comparison. G25 is by no means king shit, save the Logitech line for comparison. There's plenty more expensive options out there, if you're looking. However, I can't justify more than the $300 I paid for mine at launch. Racing, boat driving, any game with a vehicle function...all lend themselves to use of the G25. It's really a great product. Anyone that owns it will likely give you the same response as I have. You are asking a question of G25 owners that I can only liken to the question posed to CH Pro Flight product owners 10 years ago. Although I think those guys may have been a bit more rabid. Asking those guys if a $150 stick, $100 throttle and $100 pedals was worth it for a flight sim was like asking Richard Petty if he really needed racing fuel for his car. The response was always prefaced with a laugh, a glare, and an emphatic "FUCK YES!"

Excuse my French.

I picked up a Driving Force GT for GRID. Been very happy with it. I was initially going to buy a MOMO, but the lack of buttons was a turn off, then I found this review of the DFGT.

Note that not all of the buttons work on PC yet. This is being addressed in the new version of the Logitech Profiler.

If you don't really plan on playing too many racing games you can go with the MOMO. If you like the idea of improved force feedback and the possibility of really using a H shifter then get the G25. I will say, that in GRID (demo), I pulled a best lap time of 1:17 with the BMW cars with my G25, and one of my coworkers couldn't break a 1:20 with his MOMO. In real life, he has seat time a a few racing schools and I do not so I am quite baffled as to the outcome. I will say though, I would purchase the G25 again even if it does cost more. There's nothing quite like a game that's done properly with the H shifter. TDU fully simulates the H shifter and clutch (and yes, I've stalled the cars plenty of times in the game lol)

If you plan on playing racing games like grid(more arcade style) then the momo is fine really. Not sure how many arcade type racers actually support H shifter and clutch. I have both a momo and a G25, the G25 is a great wheel and I highly recommended it. The Momo is fine and will do the job if all you plan to play is grid or similar types once inawhile.

I have the G25 and have only used the MOMO. To be perfectly honest only buy the G25 if you REALLY like driving games. The G25 is worth every penny and it will last a long ass time. However it is very expensive just to play one game (if it's GRID your downplaying its effectiveness)

The G25 was made to take advantage of live for speed, rfactor, GTR series etc. It is made for racing simulation.

How is the FF improved on the G25? (note I'm not doubting or contradicting you, just genuinely interested).

The G25 has 2 FF motors compared to the other single motor wheels. The G25 motors are also quieter and more powerful.

GRID doesn't support clutch so I think it's kind of a waste. I think the shifting feels really weird in GRID as well so I leave it in auto.

Wow, I find the Momo pretty "forceful" as it is... although quieter would definitely be appreciated.

I just got GRID today and I'm gonna pick up the G25.

Be sure to post your input! I too am in the same shoes as the OP and I'm glad this thread was made. I already downloaded the demo version of live for speed and that game begs for a wheel. I tried playing with the keyboard/mouse and forget it. GRID is next on my list. Hopefully OP you can let us know what choice you made and how you feel about it.

Be careful about using the G25 preset for GRID. For mine, the preset was complete crap so I just custom assigned everything. Good luck!

Momo is fine for casual, I miss the clutch though.

The paddle shifting is really handy. The sequential gear lever on the Momo I used instead for a handbrake.

I own a G25, and I have to say, it is worth every penny.
- The leather and all that feels great.
- The build is of very good quality.
- The choices for shifting are great: paddle, h shifter, sequential (depending on what kind of car I drive, i like to use the equiv shifter)
- The pedals are awsome.

The only thing I dont like, is friggin wires everywhere. I am not sure if it is better with the momo. I personally got the g25 because I LOVE race sims\arcade\games.

If you are only looking to play GRiD and could use the money you save somewhere else, the momo is "fine".

But if u can afford it get G25, then Race07 (next level up in race realism), then GTR2 (comes free in latest version of Race07 for $18.99 at Walmart), then LFS.

let us know what you decide.

Sounds just like the momo. I wish they'd use the pedal unit as a hub for the power & usb so that you just ran 1 wire to the wheel box, rather than vice versa.
