About 5 years old, but classic nonetheless. A 36 inch diameter fan duct taped to a stripped-down case. Keyboard and other peripherals duct taped to the top to make carrying to LAN parties easier. This is not mine, but a friend's.

Well, it wouldn't be so ghetto if it had 4x.2.5" SAS drives instead, would it?

Great stuff. I've got a pic lying around somewhere from the net of a similar case (not mine.) I always wonder how they upgrade/fix/de-dust stuff, though.
 
Didn't like hot air getting recycled by my videocard since it's single slot and the dynamics of my case are very tight, hot air was going back into the intake fan.

Update of my old library photocopier card mod but the 8800GT wouldn't be the same.

What to do if you don't have any expansion slots and you are too lazy to cut new holes into your case. Bent the modded eSATA bracket a bit to make it a sort of pseduo-spring clip. Shoved everything through the parallel port hole.

I agree! what happened to the fan ducts made of ramen, the duct-taped and zip-tied cooling fans, and the picture taped to the case instead of installing a case window?

Don't know what you are talking about. There's plenty of duct tape, cardboard, and packing foam on this page alone. Being ghetto is how to be lazy and save money using crap you have sitting around.

What you're seeing and thinking of here are the cheap mods, which are commendable for their money saving craftiness. This thread was started for and has lasted for over 1250 posts to showcase the kind of mods we create when we:
  1. Are poor
  2. Are lazy
  3. Are impatient
  4. Don't give two shits how it looks
  5. Don't want to go find/borrow/steal a Dremel/building materials (see # 3)
Really, go back to some of the first 1,000 posts and you'll see genuine ingenuity and ghettoness. At one point, we debated which tape was the ghettoest (packing tape won over duct tape due to price and hideousness). Go over to Afrotech and learn some from the true master and mentor to us all. Here's an example of what this thread used to showcase.

To those who want to continue the ghetto mods tradition, remember: cardboard box, a ghetto mod does not automatically make. Stylish looks that could have come from Ikea, no. Using bathroom sealant to hold fans onto a side panel, yes. Ducting your AC straight to your case's intake with cardboard boxes, aluminum foil, and clear tape, yes.

Call me a redneck, but bring back real mods that deserve real foodstamps. Here's a start:



My old heatercore needed some more airflow so I added one of those 15 for $15 Newegg 80mm fans next to the previous 120mm. The vibrations got annoying so I stuck some old weatherstripping to the bottom of the 120 with some double sided tape and shoved some pieces in the mounting holes of the 80. Three LANs so far with no lost fans.
 
I have a couple of extra fans from my Lian-Li case, and while I'm modding it I'm running caseless. Since I had nothing else to do with the other fans I decided to attach them to my Tuniq Tower. I made a holder for them out of five separate PCI slot brackets, and taped everything together with electrical tape.

This is the result as shown from above. Two PCI brackets are taped via electrical tape to the top corners of both fans, and the ends of the brackets are taped together. For a little stability I added another bracket to the center and taped it in.

It seems to have dropped my load temps by about 3-4C, and the top now makes a handy table for my wireless antenna and my iPod.

Secondly, I wanted a way to position the hard drive farther above the DVD drive so none of the traces on the circuit board would short out on the drive. I screwed in a couple of motherboard standoffs to the bottom of the hard drive and voila:

It works perfectly. Finally, a picture of the whole setup:

So the harddrive cage in the stacker 830 SE's create this annoying rattle that i've never heard with previous cases for my 74gb raptor and 200gb seagate. The rubber things don't even help The rattling drives me crazy, and its just soooooooo loud. I googled "hdd silencers" and Didn't really like what came up. A lot of them are very expensive too... like $30+. And I'd rather not pay $10-$15 for rubber screws... so heres what I thought up.

Those are extra shoe laces I had lying around! Absolutely ghetto, but it works, and works WELL! My hdd's are so much more quiet now... and theres no rattle at all. Only tiny vibrations when loading up some programs, but I barely notice it. Best thing i've ever done to my stacker, haha.

My Stacker 832 started rattling a TON when I put my Raptor in. I found out that the empty plastic fan mount in the top of the case was slightly loose, and that was what created the rattle. Once I removed that, and tightened the tabs on the side panels so they are nice and tight, my case doesn't rattle at all. Not even with 2 raptors and 6 other hard drives.

So yeah, make sure it isn't that stupid top fan grill rattling around.

My other screens, that was my WMP monitor the other one on that computer is just to the left of the WMP one [like all the icons on the desktop?] and the top right was my try with linux [ubuntu], it looked too much like apple for me :p
