games with the worst UI

Another vote for vanilla Oblivion. Early in the game, I leveled and made money making potions... there must have been meetings at Bethesda dedicated to just making that aspect of the game as annoying and time consuming as possible.

BF2 - It takes you 5-10 minutes just to go through the menus and into the actual game. Not to mention just opening a menu to pause the game requires it's own loading screen. "Loading pause menu, please wait..."

What's so bad about COD4? You load straight into the menu, no loading time in between screens, and you go straight into the action. I barely notice the bland UI, which is a plus when you just want go straight to hardcore with no fuss.

HANDS DOWN UT3 - Sorry Epic but about 98% of your community told you with enough warning to fix it, you have no excuse.

For example of an absolutely perfect UI with a full compliment of features, see World In Conflict.

Oblivion's consolized out-of-the-box UI. It seemed like the entire internet levitated with rage until it was modded.
We would have just levitated in the game had Bethesda not removed that ;)

UT3 has the worst UI of newest games. Most console game UI's and controls suck.

Back when we had amiga and NES, the hardware was so bad, you could somehow understand the limitations but these days there are no excuses.

Eve-Online. No contest.

Agreed, if you like sitting 2 inches from your monitor it is ok, but for normal people it is practically unusable, one of the main reasons I only actually ran the demo once and then uninstalled it

Ill prolly going to get a lot of shit for this one but..Starcraft....Think about it before u kill me.

I second this... I tried this game several times after buying it 8 years ago; but the learning curve was simply to steep to me and I gave up. I don' t like to be rushed at to quickly in a game. My reflexes and my ability to react very quickly are not very good. :(

How does that have anything to do with the UI?

UT3's UI is just piss poor.

I thought that Quake 4 had a pretty decent UI. It's pretty fast... ET:QW is alright... the server browser in Quake wars is fantastic. Frontlines: FOW has a very bad UI and server browser.

Most older games have the better UIs... they're quick and to the point.

I play UT3 daily and laugh at everyone riding the bad interface wave. I spend probably 20 seconds dealing with this "consolized" interface before a multi hour gaming session... get over it people. Now, when I think about poor interface, Gran Tourismo 3 comes to mind: 13 button inputs just to restart the same race after crashing. Now that was frustrating.
