Right when the keyboard solo cuts off and it just drops into a slow strumming acoustic section with an eerie ambient keyboard layer over it. Gives me goose bumps just thinking about it.
 
Wow there are a lot of white boys in this forum. Not trying to be rude, but the musical tastes do run lop-sided.

I am just surprised not to see many of the all time classic r&b or soul songs on this list. Let alone not a single track by Jill Scott and a very few by Norah Jones
 
The last song I've heard that really made the hairs on my neck stand up was a country song.

Couple of Antony and the Johnsons songs do it for me, I Hope There is Someone and Fistful of Love.
Elenor Rigby by the Beatles too
Mostly emotional songs do it to me.
 
There are a few songs that I could listen to every day for the rest of my life and all of those are ones that make me get that chill down my spine like the artists can talk directly to my soul. Here's a short list of a few of them:
  • Change - Blind Melon -- The part in the chorus "keep on dreamin boy, when you stop you know you're gonna die, and right now I don't wanna die" gets me every time. Get the bootleg acoustic version (which is nearly 2x as long as the album version) if you can find it...incredibly beautiful and moving. Tragic that Hoon had to go out the way so many greats do.
  • Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad? - Derek and the Dominoes -- Hard to pick out just one song from that absolutely ridiculous album, Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs, but this stands out as the one I find myself going back to the most.
  • Fire And Rain - James Taylor -- If you don't feel some emotion while listening to this song check your pulse.
  • Squeeze - Robert Randolph -- When you can lay down some funky lap steel work like this you don't need no lyrics.
  • Bernadette - The Four Tops -- If you've never heard of the funk brothers then join the rest of the crowd who has no idea who breathed life into more #1 hits than The Stones, Beatles, or Elvis....combined. I could probably pick any of the songs they played in but this one just happened to come up on my playlist while I was writing this. Standing in the Shadows of Motown
  • Pool Hall Richard - The Faces -- Yes, Rod Stewart used to get down and dirty. Believe it.
  • Hang On To Yourself - David Bowie -- Get the version from "Bowie at the Beeb". That fuzzy martian spider-driven guitar never gets old.
  • Thickfreakness - The Black Keys -- Speaking of fuzzy guitars...Easily my favorite band of this decade.
  • Suite Judy Blue Eyes - Crosby, Stills, Nash, Young -- See them live while you still can.
  • A Question Mark - Elliott Smith -- Wrote a treasure-trove of goodness before he took his own life, another sad story.
  • I Gotta Be More (Take Me Higher) - Al Green -- I just had to include one song from this man, great stuff.
That's all I'll list for now, most of those artists are pretty well known anyway. Keep these posts coming I'm always on the lookout for some new tunes!

i liked the early nightwish very much, then i started losing interest a bit but the new singer got me attracted again.
sadly i missed the austria gig last week since i bought some sweet tickets earlier, anyway the sweet did a great show.

right now i'm playing Estrangement the debut album from the Dreadful Shadows, gives me goosebumps every time.

Anything by Dead Can Dance. For me they can be quite emotional to listen to. Maybe not for you but give them a listen anyway. If you don't know DCD then you probably do know the music to Gladiator which is sung by Lisa Gerard of DCD and is similar to their style of music. Mozart's Requiem does it for me too.

Fan of QotSA huh? Have you ever heard of the Eagles of Death Metal? Lead singer/guitarist for QotSA plays drums for the band. They sound instrumentally similar, but the vocals are pretty different. I dig 'em. It is more of a side project type deal, but I hope Homme feels the urge to do more, some of their songs are downright catchy. Check out Flames Go Higher, I Want You So Hard, and I Like to Move in the Night.

I won't go into specific track details but here are some other bands worth mentioning that I haven't seen here so far:

Unified Theory (from the remnants of Blind Melon, probably a "dead" band now that BM has reformed)

Incidentally, did Buckley do any of his own songs?
 
New Kicks by Le Tigre. It's so flaming liberal (unlike me), but the chanting just gets to me, makes me feel like something big is going down, like something epic will happen.

Yeah, not a huge fan of Leonard Cohen's version. Haven't heard Joan Baez's version of Satisfied Mind, though I was aware of it. I (along with a lot of other people) just like Jeff Buckley's cover of Hallelujah a lot better than the original. That said I also like the Rufus Wainwright version more than the original too.

As a side note, Buckley did write a lot of original material. A couple worth mentioning are: "Forget Her", "Everybody Here Wants You", "So Real", and "Grace".

I'll go and check out that Joan Baez version
 
Massive Attack - Angel

Absolutely amazing song, especially if you've got the sound system to carry it off, though it does make you want to kill someone if you're in a bad mood. The use of it for the west wing season 4 finale was the best use of music in a TV Series I've ever seen. Getting a bit overused in TV though now :(
 
Just thought I'd chime in. For Final Fantasy music lovers, The Black Mages III: Darkness and Starlight cd (cd came out a couple days ago). I just sat and listened to the entire cd for the first time and wow, amazing arrangement of the classic tunes. The majority of the cd is all instrumental (power/progressive metal) with one track that has a dash of opera. My favorite track would have to be track 5 - KURAYAMINOKUMO.

youtube has plenty of samples if you want to check it out.

Agreed. My wife loves MA, lots of hair raising moments from them.
 
I love the old Precision power 2150 amps with 2 jl audio w6 15's. I wont the Dallas open with 6 of the jl's and 3 PPI amps in my CRX!
 
The first 3 minutes or so of Tiesto - Forever Today does it every time for me. One of those songs that the louder it is the better and the more of an emotional response it induces (for me anyway).
