Intel QX 9650 and C1 Stepping

I have been hearing rumours that QX 9650 will be re-branded as Q9650 with locked upwards multiplier. I do hope this rumour is not true. I want QX 9650 but not if its discontinued. I hope its just to fix bugs with the previous. I heard March 3 is launch date of new C1.
 
Certainly possible if they release a QX9750 alongside the QX9770 (IIRC). Intel has been pretty adament about only having one X in the system at a time. Dropping the QX96 down to a normal chip and releasing a new X above it seems logical with the amount of headroom they have.

Actually Intel will have at least two from now on. They'll have the QX9770 and the QX9775. the only difference between the two is the socket type LGA775 vs. LGA771 and the later will support SMP for Intels' Skulltrail platform.

I thought the QX9650 is just going to fade away, and be replaced with the QX9770. I don't think this is going to be a QX9750 (3.16ghz, 1333mhz fsb). So is C1 a new stepping or something, or what?

The QX9770 will be the new Extreme Edition offering. I'm not sure of its' release date but the C1 stepping is just that, a new stepping. Current engineering samples are all C0 as far as I know.
 
Too bad Skull trail didn't use LGA775 & ddr3. If so it would be a viable option. :(

Even if it just used ddr3, you could always buy a cheaper Xeon (instead of the Xtremely Expensive editions).

Well LGA775 processors aren't SMP capable so that's out of the question. There is also nothing wrong with LGA771 in that the LGA771 Xeons aren't much more expensive if at all than their LGA775 counterparts. Also the Skulltrail uses standard LGA775 mounting holes so that all LGA775 coolers could be used. (Or nearly all of them.) You can buy cheaper Xeons to work on the D5400XS motherboard. DDR3 is hardly worth while at present so I'm not sure what you are getting at there. It is more expensive and the so called performance boost that it is supposed to have is only measureable in benchmarks and even then only barely registers as an advantage.

Skulltrail has two really big problems but the lack of DDR3 memory slots isn't one of them. Skulltrail doesn't support 3-Way SLI and uses FB-DIMMs. Those are its' real problems.
 
I can see your point on that, makes sense, not to mention the new cpu architecture to come out at the end of this year.
 
Does support QX 9770...I have QX 6700 right now with coolit liquid cooling. Want a CPU with faster FSB speed.

I guess it might not be that easy to just enable SMP on LGA775, I was thinking they could just not laser cut the part of the chip that enables it. Its not like there's the server SMP version has more pins needed for SMP. (like AMD 940 vs 754)

The D5400XS should be available no later than March 31st unless it gets pushed back for some reason. I seriously doubt that even by then DDR3 will be much if any cheaper. Even if it were it doesn't perform much better than DDR2.
