I've got 3 x 120mm (110cmf) in an Antec Super LANBoy sounding like its ready to taxi down a runway. Any suggestion as to what i can replace them with for a less ear aching while still have decent air flow.

Scythe S-Flexes are awesome, but a little pricey. Yate Loons are also popular.

I've been happy with the Enermax Enlobals, but I can get them locally at a good price.

My sentiments exactly :) I use both Scythe and Yate Loon fans. Yate Loons are a bit louder at normal voltage, but at 5 volts both are dead quiet.

scythe fans are great an all but waaaay too pricey. there are several different versions of s-flexes that push out different CFMs. I've seen them ranging anywhere from 14.99-29.99.

when i play games our watch movies I either have head phones on max or my 5.1 system up really high so theres no point. I've also added in foam to absorb the sound and vibration helps a tad bit too.

At least on newegg.com, you can save a good bit by ordering more than one (unit pricing helps you out.) This is true for the fastest CFM s-flex model.

IMO, the Yate Loons CANNOT be beaten as far as price/performance goes.

1. Low Speed: barely audible, but low cfm, not recommended for O/C'rs
2. Medium Speed: Low noise, good airflow. recommended for mild O/C'rs
3. High Speed: These are the ones I use. I have 3 on one channel on my sunbeam fan controller. Like I tell everybody, I can turn them down to barely audible when surfing/working, and turn them up higher when I game. Takes less than 2 seconds, and BAM, I got a near silent PC. Try and catch them when it's free shipping, just too good of a deal to pass up.

Yate Loons are the best value. The fan to get from Yate Loon is the D12SL-12 for $3 to $4/ea. Search jab-tech.com for D12SL-12.

The Scythe S-Flex SFF21F is a better fan, but it costs more than 3x as much. If you have a 120mm fan on your heatsink, I would replace it with one of these.

Love the Noctua fans ive ran but they are they are way expensive. I had a Yate loon that made noise when unervolted. It could have been just a bad fan.

DONT BUY YATE LOONS FROM JAB-TECH!

or most other places for that matter. The only good Yate-Loons are sold from www.petrastechshop.com.

They have been tested and the ones from PTS push more air and are quieter than other YL fans. The problem stems from PTS sourcing the fans direct from Yate while everyone else goes through a middle man and is supposedly getting fans of questionable quality for cheaper prices. PTS might sell the fans for a few dollars more, but they are better and still very cheap.

Linkage : http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=171661 Review of more fans than you thought existed, and testing of Yate Loons showing that PTS Yates are better than the rest.

I just deleted Jab-Tech off my list of places to buy things, and I'm sorry I ever recommened them. A couple bucks more and get a real Yate Loon is worth it in my book. Thanks for the information, and Jab-Tech can go **** themselves.

Just because they don't have the "fancy" Yate Loons, assuming the previous poster is correct, doesn't mean they aren't still a good company worthy of being considered for future purchases. I've used them a few times and had good experiences. Don't trash a reputable company based on one person's comments.

I ordered Yate Loon fans from there because of the Yate Loon reputation. With the new information given through the testing from the link, the ones that Jab-Tech sells are sub par comparatively. Cheaper parts, less QA, whatever they did, I'm not sure so I won't speculate as to how they get these things cheaper.

People buy Yate Loons to get a good price, and to be quiet. These are obviously not as quiet as reviewed Yate Loons. IMO, this equates to buying an E8400 from them, just because I've seen how well it overclocks, but Jab-Tech ordered them with half the cache to cut prices, yet do not advertise this fact.

So unless Jab-Tech openly shows on the fans that they are not equal to the Yate Loon standard that everyone comes to expect, it is the old bait-and-switch.

People need to stay informed about companies that operate like this. Imagine buying a Mustang GT and it only has a 4 cylinder in it, even though everybody knows the GT has a V-8. They just left that bit of information out of the description. Anyways, this is all just my opinion, do what you want, obviously.

THE BEST 120mm fan I have come across is the Xilence XPF120R Red Wing 120mm Quiet Fan
It pushes 68CFM at 21.2dB !!!

I bought 3 and they are truly quiet and strong.

I suggest you go to my link above to see how much bullshit most fans ratings are.... I wouldn't doubt that those fans really push 35CFM but at 28dB.

Also I would like to clarify, I am not saying that Jab-Tech is a bad company at all. I have used them in the past and their service is great and their prices are generally good. I am only saying that nobody except for PTS stocks the "real" Yate-Loon fans.

I've got -
1 x Red Wing 120mm
5 x Red Wing 92mm
5 x Red Wing 80mm

in my case... yes tis overkill, but I like airflow, and to be honest it's pretty damn quiet!

No complaints here about Xilence fans, maybe they are slightly overrating the airflows but noise levels are just fine.

Aria seem to be dirt cheap when it comes to Xilence fans, they occasionally knock the price down on these fans in there super specials even further... can't complain :)
