Help with a game name (Atari)

This game is from a long time ago and my description is going to be very vague and I'm giong to get alot of bad answers, no doubt. I apologize for this in advance.

It was a sub game where you shot at other subs and at planes.
It's not one of the more common "Sub Attack" games or whatever. I've been through Wikipedia's list of Atari games it's not one of the games that actually has it's own page and game description.

This game was very fast paced and was alot of fun. I think you had guns and missiles. I'm not certain. You just had a reticle that you would move around the screen and shoot these things coming at you.

Ok there's my description. Any ideas?
 
are you sure it was from Atari ? The first game that came to mind was "In The Hunt" which was from IREM... the same team wnt on to do MetalSlug after that.

Submarine Commander maybe, I could not find it on the list of Atari games on the wiki page which you said it was not one.
 
Definitely not In the Hunt. Possibly Submarine Commander. I'm gonna have to see if I can find a rom or somethin'.
 
Are we talking arcade, console or home computer?

I played this the other day at a crappy old arcade on the coast. It was fun.

Or it could have been Namco's Submarine, which i also found on that info site.

Man. Those screen shots of Battle Shark really look familiar. I'm not sure if it's from the game I'm talking about or from another time I played Battle Shark. But I don't think it's battle shark, even though I would SWEAR it was if it were on a game console, because I played this game I'm talking about at a friend's house on a TV using a controller. This was years ago and I don't remember what controller or what game system it was exactly. I was thinking that it might also be Nintendo.
 
Hmmm, might want to check out the Hunt for Red October for the NES... probably not what you want but it was a sweet sub game. Best one I played for NES.
