NEC MultiSync LCD3090WQXi-BK spotted

At $2200 street price, I am waiting for the lotto win first before I get excited about this one.

Probably the best 30" monitor out there for strict PC use, but quite costly!

Wow, that screen looks sick.

I wonder how gaming would be on it? Probably a good amount of lag/ghosting on a screen that size, or does the high price tag indicate that it may be pretty efficient (I'd hope)?

Lag and ghosting have nothing to do with screen size. Low frame rates due to massive native pixel count and underpowered GPUs however....do.

Great! I was waiting for this monitor for awhile. Anyone know when the SpectraView version will be out?

Thanks for the clear up.

With this said, is this panel just as good, if not better than a TN, for gaming? Although, I'm new at all of this, I've read the FAQ concerning the displays and have done some research, and it seems the TN panels perform better in games than most other panels because of the low ms, right?

It boils down to: Can I be comfortable gaming with fast paced fpses with this 2,200 dollar 30-inch?

Thanks for the link Namorismo!

Not sure if this will end up shipping or get canceled, but I just ordered this for only $1538.99. :D

Onsale.com has it for $1659.99. Using coupon code BENSBARGBWBE4830 brings it down to $1,538.99. Shipping/tax will depend on location but they are offering free UPS ground after rebate (max $40).

Anyone hear anything from NEC as to when these are supposed to start shipping? Last I heard was February.

Wow, Macmall has this listed for $1720, so this price is very believable. Great deal, especially with the coupon. Any experience with this vendor?

Surprisingly, it looks like the street price is going to be significantly below its $2200 MSRP. These prices are very good for a panel that is, theoretically, higher quality than it's competitors in the same price range. I'm very happy about that.

I'm just hoping, since it shares the same panel as the Dell 3008, that it doesn't exhibit the same back-light bleeding issues.

Damn, I was ready to order but it looks like I'll have to pay sales tax (I live in IL). It's still a great deal, but it just doesn't feel right paying sales tax from an online store :p . I'm going to hold off for a little bit and see if another online vendor where I don't have to pay taxes will offer it at a price close to this. Great find though.

I was about to order from onsale until I saw they have a zero return policy for this monitor. If you bought it you would have to go directly through NEC if you have any issues. So if you don't like the monitor and it doesn't perform up to expectations, your screwed. Also, I noticed Macmall has the same web site layout and wording as onsale. Are they the same company?

It sure looks like the same company to me. Even with the shoddy return policy, the price with the coupon is very tempting. The manufacturers warranty is still good, and if for some reason you disliked it, ebay could be a possible option. I would of ordered if I didn't have to pay sales tax.

I had to pay sales tax too (7.75% in CA). Ordered anyway because even with tax, you just can't beat that price. I'm not too concerened about returns because NEC offers a 4 year replacement warranty.

I don't plan to play any games on this so all I really need is a screen without the uniformity issues and excessive brightness of the Dell. Nec's ColorComp should take care of the uniformity and their economy backlight modes should cure the brightness. I'll post a review if this ever ships.

BTW, I doubt the lag on this will be any better than NEC's other screens. It's the price you have to pay for all the image correction features. I do all my gaming on a CRT so not a concern for me.

I ordered this morning too  . To hell with the tax (I got charged in IL), it's still a fine deal. I have until it ships to decide if I'm going to stick with the NEC, but unless Apple miraculously releases an updated 30", I'm likely going to stick with this. BTW, thanks for the coupon! I was going to wait at least a couple of weeks to purchase, but that put me over the edge :p Now to order the Mac Pro tonight....

Onsale.com has a pretty bad resellerratings.com rating, MacMall.com is even worse.

Onsale has a lifetime rating of 6.03 (bad) and MacMall has a lifetime rating of 3.06 (REALLY, really BAD)!! Considering that MacMall has been around a long, long time they would have to be really horrible to rack up a 3.06 rating.

Compare to Newegg with a lifetime rating of 9.73 and then BUYER BEWARE!!!

Ya, that is pretty much why I didn't order with that company. I could see them screwing around with you on the price and ship date after you have ordered. Not to mention then charge tax even though they aren't in your state?

I'm in CA, so I pretty much pay tax no matter what since most of the major online retailers have warehouses here. If you order with a decent credit card, you can always dispute the charges if there are any problems. I really don't care about the store's warranty/service since I'll be dealing directly with NEC if there are issues. To each his own... it was either this or settle for the cheaper 2490/2690. There's no way I would pay $2200 for this monitor at Newegg or similar.

P.S. If you search for authorized dealers at necdisplay.com, you will see pcmall.com at the top of the list. That's the same company as onsale.com, etc. Seems safe enough to me.

Well it seems the price of this monitor has increased on the onsale/macmall chain of storefronts. Onsale now has it for $1899 and Macmall $2999! I hope you guys get your LCD's at the original $1600'ish low price and they don't do a bait and switch. When you receive your models, it's a given that you must post reviews asap! ;)

What do you know. I just checked my order status and found out that my order has been canceled  I didn't even get an email notification of this, which upsets me.

I called onsale but the sales rep was unable to reinstate the order for the price I originally received (around $1620 before tax and shipping). He did give me the number for a manager that he said might be able to assist tomorrow. For some reason though, I get the feeling that this isn't going to be resolved to my liking.

I did conduct a chat session a couple of days ago with an NEC rep and specifically asked if onsale was an authorized vendor for NEC. He told me they were, which gave me a little more reassurance about this company. But with the less than favorable reviews, I'll cancel my order and take my money elsewhere to a more trusted name if they try to go back on their price.

Well, I was skeptical when I first posted this deal and was expecting them to cancel. But so far my order status is still "Back Ordered". The problem is that they legally can't hold any order for longer than 30 days. So if these monitors don't end up shipping by March 15, then they will all get canceled. If that happens, I will have to go for the 24" or 26" version because I can't afford the 30" at regular price. Please keep us updated on how things turn out after you speak to a manager.

Well, due to the uncertainty of price and when the NEC is going to ship (between the end of the month and middle of next month) and the fact that my Mac Pro will arrive late this week, I pulled the trigger on an Apple 30" Cinema Display.

My primary concern was color accuracy for photography post processing (mainly for web, so the higher color gamut wasn't necessary for me). While this NEC looks very nice, it would of been torture for me to wait. Also, onsale.com screwing around with the pricing really made me second guess my doing business with them. Even at the near $1900 they are now charging, with tax and shipping I'd be looking at around $2100 total price. That's too much money, IMO, especially when dealing with a company that has a less than ideal reputation.

Because of this, I called Apple and was able to negotiate the 30" ACD for $1499. That price (while still overpriced for a very good, but old S-IPS panel) was enough to push me over the edge. After taxes, the ACD was at least $500 cheaper than the NEC. Plus I don't have to wait weeks or even a month with a new Mac Pro and no monitor.

I'll likely keep this display until Apple finally gets around to updating the ACD. I might even wait for an LED backlit display.

Good luck to those purchasing the NEC, it looks like a darn fine panel for it's intended use.

Why are you comparing prices of a next gen IPS monitor to something that is 2 generations old? I'm sorry but Apple monitors due not have thier place anymore in pro situations, they are just too out of date and also to be honest "not good enough" especially when compared to the upcoming NEC's, Eizo's and LG's.

The quote above in bold is honestly the main factor for my decision. I don't know if I made the right decision, but there was no way that I was going to subject myself to that kind of torture. I didn't feel like taking my chances on the NEC purchase with a possible shady vendor that was screwing around with me on price and wouldn't allow for a return if I was unsatisfied with the panel.

The responsible thing to do would of been waiting for the initial reviews of the NEC before purchasing. In fact, I can still do that. If the NEC happens to be way better than the Apple, I can always sell my ACD for a slight loss, due to the discounted price I paid, and pick up the NEC. In the meantime, I get to enjoy my Mac Pro and not agonize over a monitor purchase.

And while it is pretty much common knowledge among those "in the know" that the ACD is long in the tooth, the whole "Apple monitors do not have their place in pro situations" statement is silly. Many professionals still rely on SWOP certified Apple Cinema Displays for color work. They definitely have their shortcomings and are no longer considered top of the line, but they are far from obsolete and without place in the pro market.

ooooooooweeeeeee this is an exciting monitor for photo post processing in aRGB!

luckily (or sadly) the q9550 and this monitor aren't released until march....so i'll be able to set the whole build up in one fell swoop. now just have to wait for them to become available and then i'll lay the hurt on the old credit card.

SWOP certified doesnt help when the industry is moving towards wide-gamut, its an imaginary safety net which does'nt help you in any way. Proper and consistant calibration with the right equipment is key not a stamp that says "SWOP"

Need I mention the 1st ACD's that had the pinky and yellow issue, those were SWOP certified. Just to be clear I'm not bashing ACD's, they were great but time has moved on.

Not to mention the 35% brightness difference accross the panel on the Apple

any word on when they'll be updating spectraview software to support the 3090?

Many stores are beginning to show it on display, seems it would be available soon...

Firstly, Onsale.com now has it listed as $1,279.99.
Secondly, does anyone know if this is an S-IPS screen?

What? the 3090WQXi? Certainly it is S-IPS, but onsale has it listed at $2400 now. (with about $500 off when you actually add it to your cart?).

Either way, no where near $1300. This is a $2000 monitor and I don't expect it will be under that for quite some time.

Has anyone actually received one for less than $2K?

Interesting.

You're right about the price, now it's listed at $1,859.99. But when I checked earlier it was the price mentioned above. Perhaps there was some mixup on their site for a few minutes between the 3090 and the 2690, because now they don't have any NEC monitor at the price above that I copied and pasted from their website.

I got mine for $1500 (+tax) from onsale.com back on Feb 10. It has not shipped yet so who knows if they will actually deliver at that price.

curious, can you guys sue onsale.com because they agreed to sell at $1500, and suddenly deny the agreement? In addition, did onsale.com take the money from your bank account/credit card once you'd submitted the transaction?

My status has not changed from "backordered" since early February. They have not charged me anything and I can't expect anything from them until NEC actually releases this monitor sometime in March.

There is some additional information/user-manual on the Japanese site.

Most likely, no. Pretty much all online retailers have some kind of disclaimer that protects them from price listing mistakes.

oooh oooh...looks like CDW in canada has a couple incoming to their warehouses. (one to vancouver and another to ontario.)
linky says it should ship in 3-6 days...
