Asus Striker II Formula 780i

ROFL...I tried to tell this to my GF, it didnt end well. Still with her though!

That's ok my girlfriend wanted to have that conversation again, I told her that when she starts making over $200,000 a year (2 year minimum) and she can afford to support me so that I can use my entire salary to buy computer hardware, vehicles and guns, I'll marry her. I told her that until I have nothing to lose and everything to gain from a marriage financially, I won't do it. I told her I won't fuck with losing half my shit out of the possibility of a divorce. The way I see it if the woman is making more money than me and we have to get a divorce and they split everything down the middle I've got everything to gain and nothing to lose.

Looks like someone has thought this over a lot ;)

And you still HAVE a girlfriend Dan!? :D

I got married but I wouldn't do it before getting a prenup.

Yes I have. I always think life changing decisions through very carefully. Even they aren't quite pertinent at the time.

You'd be surprised what I can get away with saying to women in general. In any case if she doesn't like it I'm not stopping her from leaving.

looks like someone's hooked on their vitamin-D ;)

so, getting back OT, when can we expect to see these boards getting to e-tailors in decent quantities?

I wish I knew. As soon as I see one for sale I'll probably snatch it up.

the P5N-T is on ebay from various sellers, for anywhere between $350 and $250 or so... it seems like that's not the same board in the way that the P5N32-e was a lesser brother to the 680i striker... board layout looks pretty different..

edit: I guess it's also in stock at tank guys and a few other e-tailors... the deluxe ver, not ws.

You know what, im never going to spend another $ on my pc for atleast a month.

I was looking at that too. You are correct the P5N-T is not to the Striker II Formula as the P5N32-E SLI Deluxe was to the Striker Extreme. If it were I probably would have purchased one by now.

That's some of the smartest shit I have ever [H]eard [H]ere on [H]ardforum

P5N-T Are now in stock at scan.co.uk but the striker II's are not due until Monday according to their latest mail. OcUK are saying 28th. :(

I would avoid scan at the moment, i have had 3 later orders in a row in the last couple of weeks.

I don't know, maybe it will be. The nforce4 boards were really reliable. Nvidia is certainly capable of making excellent reference boards.

http://www.clubit.com/product_detail.cfm?itemno=CA4802849

found an asus 780i board for sale at clubit.

They certainly are capable of making solid reference boards. The 650i Ultra and 650i SLI were excellent. Unfortunately the 780i SLI board you found is only the P5N-T and not the Striker II Formula.

zipzoomfly has 'em cheaper for $279

I think i'm probably going to bite on this even though its not a striker. I'm not sure i can justify the extra cost for the striker (granted I don't know what that will be since they aren't released in the U.S. yet)

yea I know, just thought some people would be interested... I just picked up the evga 780i a1 board for $279. I will install it after this post, will post back how it goes.

update:

board won't boot at all. Not to hard drives or a windows cd. Only way I can get to the bios screen is by leaving memory banks 0 and 3 empty. If I cannot get this to work tonight, then I once again resolve to never ever to buy an nvidia board again.

update:

board works fine, but not with the memory I had in my old p965 board. I am now using 2gigs of corsair xms memory. I really like the esa software though. It looks alot like the phenom spider platform software kyle seems to like so much.

nforce 4 was nvidias biggest hit in my opinion, nearly everyone who was on the 939 platform had an nforce 4 motherboard from what i can rerember.

Because it didn't have problems that began with the 5 series ring.
It went from Sata issues on the 5 series to Sata issues on the 6 series.
Alleged firmware fixes not working and a hardware revision required for the fix shouldn't be an option. These are things that should be tested before you push out another board 2 months (or less I think) out after the predecessor had a low adoption rate and some cautions.
Nvidia has overlooked the enthusiast sometimes because they should KNOW that these boards are being built for people who will push all their parts to the point where they will beg for mercy. To think you buy a 680i just for SLi is great, but even me (A non overclocker) has started giving his hand at it because that's what the board is supposed to do. Nvidia is rushing themselves into a motherboard suicide in my opinion, these trivial issues never were a problem on my Nf4 and I hope the 7 series gets the "a-ok" but I don't think it will happen without extensive testing.

I also want to add that nVidia should stop borrowing components from the 5>6>7, it's ridiculous. Nuke the god damn board and start again. Seriously, that's the only way they'll get my superior confidence. Until then I'll run SLI with instore swap warranty because I don't trust them when it comes to boards.

I run all games on high @ 2560x1600
Should have Tri-Sli next week, than i will try Crysis.

You might as well try Crysis in single card mode or dual card SLI. The third card doesn't do a damn thing for it.

$399 for a motherboard is ridiculous.

If the Striker II Formula is as reliable as the Striker Extreme was I'll probably go for it. I just want a board that will work and not die on me every two to three months.

I have enjoyed the time i had with the Striker (almost a year), never let me down.
But i realy love the Formula, it's what the Striker should be in first place.
Quality build, good OC options and steady as a rock.
Only time will tell if it's reliable, but i bet my horses on it ;)

Well the Striker Extreme is actually more full featured board than the Striker II Formula is. It has the internal LCD poster and eSATA ports which I prefer to have. The only thing the Formula has over the Extreme is a third full speed PCIe x16 slot and official 45nm quad core support. That's it. The Striker Extreme by most accounts has been improved by BIOS 1303 and 1301 by a large margin. Apparently they now overclock quad cores with the best of them.

I haven't been able to verify this as my Striker is probably the worst overclocking Striker Extreme out there.

Thrust me, it's better build.
Heatsink now fits perfect on mosfetts.
Bigger heatsink.
LCD is external now, so no need to crouch behind your case.
Much more oc-options in bios, also more monitor sensors.
No FSB-holes as there are on the Striker.
Higher stable FSB, much less vdroop (loadline calibration)
And theres more, all little improvements what makes the Formula so much better (in my opinion)

Well I'll be finding out about the Striker II Formula within a week or so. I just don't like ASUS not putting eSATA ports on their Formula boards and only including that feature on their DDR3 Extreme boards.

It appears everyone is having issues getting hold of these in the UK. OcUK say 28th and when I spoke to Scan about my order they said they have 5 coming from their distributor but were speaking directly to Asus about getting any more.

Oh how I'd love to be able to use the rest of my new rig still sitting in it's box since 3 weeks.

I notice no other reviews have appeared since the overclock3d one either...

Is DDR2 800mhz RAM compatible on these motherboards because i see they say DDR2 1200 RAM standard and i was just wondering.
