I'm somewhat of a novice when it comes to apple products. My question is, is it possible to run Microsoft Outlook on a macbook? The reason I ask is that I have a full blown gaming windows rig, but I want a laptop that I can take to class, work, and sit in front of the tv. I really like the new macbooks. My work environment (my university) is primarily made up of windows rigs, using Microsoft exchange and heavily depends on Outlook.

Is it possible? Are there apple alternatives? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Entourage > Outlook.

And, on a related note;

Office for Mac > Office for Windows.

thanks!

so would Entourage work in a MS exchange environment? The reason I ask is that my university has outlook on all the windows machines but the macs don't (but they do have office)

EDIT: nvm... i just read about Entourage Thanks!

Just to reinforce what you've just read, Entourage 2003 works great with Exchange. I use it daily, as I've recently converted to OS X for full-time use at the office. :D I will say that it does not stand up well against Outlook 2007, but it does blow Outlook 2003 clean out of the water. :p

I'm anxious to play with Office:Mac 2008 - hopefully it's equal to or better than Office 2k7. :)

I have had to support Entourage in Exchange environments since it was first released.

It makes me weep.

It depends on WebDAV for access and this results in slow, wonky connections. You are in cached mode so everything is downloaded to your machine and then resides in an unstable database with a well deserved reputation for corruption. If your database grows larger than 2 gigabytes you are on the road to unhappiness. Yes, I'm sure there are freaks out there with 8 gig databases who have never had an issue. But when you support 50 people you get to see the ugliness.

At least with Exchange when Entourage inevitably destroys itself you can just start over and redownload all your mail. But for people who use it for POP, you're boned.

Entourage is a decent app but it's a crippled Exchange client and not a full-fledged replacement for Outlook.

LOL! in my experience, iwork TRAMPLES office.
its cheaper, lighter, faster, more powerful, and numbers blows excell out of the water. give it a shot.

Neooffice > either.

I wouldn't pay for either of them.

again, i'm gonna disagree, for the exact same reasons that i mentioned for office, except the cheaper one. but i will throw this one in, iwork looks nicer than neooffice.

ive used all three, there is not going back from iwork. if price is your only concern, it is WELL worth the 80 bucks.

Numbers doesn't come CLOSE to excel. Not even by 20 miles for true spreadsheet users. Lets borrow from AppleInsider "A lot of Mac users rely on Excel for features that are missing from Numbers 1.0, including database integration, sophisticated formula functions, pivot tables, and specialized charting."

Yes Numbers does do somethings better, but if you are looking for a business spreadsheet application, Number's isn't it.
