To Wii or not to Wii?

Alright, I basically just found a Wii from this guy for $254 shipped with the Zelda game without that sports disc and without the original box. Im a little skeptical about him, but on the whole, it seems like a fair sale. BUT, should I just wait after christmas to get one (for my gf) just to make sure I get a fully functioning one, etc?

Why the heck would this guy sell the system, but not the pack-in Wii Sports or Box? Sounds like he bricked it and is trying to trash it as fast as he can.

Should ask him to see if it can do a system update - in front of you. Even so, I still have no idea why both box or Wii Sports aren't included...

There's a lot of scams involving popular tech products around this time of year.

Better safe than sorry.

The system is definitely worth getting, but imo its better if you get it from a reputable place, brand new.

It's a gamble.

I'd say run it through PayPal at least "just in case", and maybe even have him create a video of it updating, accessing menus, etc to make sure it works.

Wii is the best party console you need it before christmas... and yes you do want Wii Sports it´s great fun...

I think Wii has the largest potential of the consoles out there honestly. However it´s aim at casual players doesn´t really help if you are a hardcore player. You have Super Mario Galaxy which is a strong candidate for the best game ever... And I am not even into platformers. Metroid Prime 3 wouldn´t been half as good on any other console. However looking for the 3rd party titles it´s extremely weak compared to both PS 3 and 360 if you are after something to complement your PC.

I do have the 360 and the Wii and I am happier with my Wii purchase because it gives me something different after all since I am a PC gamer... The 360 is to much a PC with dumbed down controls though there is games worth playing there as well like the Darkness. However if that title would have been developed for the Wii or the PC it would have been an instant classic I feel since it´s so bloody awesome apart from the controls :)

Is the Wii seriously sold out everywhere, AGAIN?

I find that hard to believe, it's a year old now, hasn't everybody already bought it last holiday season? Nintendo couldn't meet the demand given a whole entire year?

Again? Sorry friend, but i believe you mean "still". Nintendo claims that they are cranking their manufacturing as much as possible.

My Wii got pretty old since it is pretty much a party console, and we already have like four of them in my fraternity, so we never use mine - I sold mine off to my family, which they'll use a lot more than me in college.

Me thinks its artificial supply shortage.

There was a story on the front page today or yesterday about Nintendo pulling their entire Wii advertising campaign since they didn't want to create false hope for people. There's no way they would do something like that unless they really aren't able to meet the demand.

I'm still amazed that it's still so hard to find after a year on the shelves. Nintendo took a THOROUGH pounding from the community when they released the specs of the machine and said they had something up their sleeve. Usually when people say stuff like that they're BSing (Segway anyone?) but Nintendo got this one right.

Still waiting to see it in stock at MSRP prices so I can get one. I can wait since it will be a party box.

I'd be wondering if it was stolen.

No box I could understand... I'm not a big fan of storing lots and lots of empty boxes. But not having the wii sports game? That's what makes me really wonder about it...

It'd be crazy to buy a used Wii at $50 markup and without the disc that's easily better than most $50 game titles for the platform. I'd say in total hours played my Wii breakdown is like this:
50% Wii Sports
30% Mario games (SMG, SPM FTW!)
10% Zelda
10% other 30 games I've played; some good, most crap

I'm willing to bet this is close to average for many, many Wii owners.
The others are right to suspect it is stolen or something.. but even if it isn't a Wii without Wii Sports is the height of sheer craziosity.

Screw Apple's secrecy... Nintendo surprised the world, I don't think anyone saw the Wii coming ;)

Are you kidding? Xbox 360 and PS 3 we all knew would be pc copy cats. Nintendo was the only one that was interesting before release :). Would have been pretty much flawless if it just was as powerful as the 360 and PS 3... Doesn´t stop mp 3 and SMG beating everything except maybe ME on PS 3 and 360 :)

I can give big N the credit for the Wii controller, but the hardware is just too basic. I've got a $2,000 tv whose potential is wasted on a rehashed gamecube. I don't know for a fact that it's a gamecube underneath, all I'm saying is that the graphics look the same.

Nintendo must be making a buttload of cash off their console because they didn't have to spend any money researching the hardware... and yes I do agree that Nintendo's games are about gameplay over graphics, but some titles just look so shitty that I can't forgive playing them on a console that feels seven years old.

Don't buy something from someone online, or even in person, if you have even a smidgen of doubt about the transaction, or quality of the product.

If you can afford to set fire to $254, then go ahead on the deal, because it wouldn't matter anyway. Otherwise, wait and buy from a store.

I think Nintendo has hit a homerun with the wii. They're first party games might be the best on any platform. SMG, SSBM, Mario kart, these are the games I bought the wii for.

The PS3 and 360 just seem way to close to a pc right now. For me the 1st party stuff is a real homerun because the 3rd party games on any console tend to be rehashes of pc games or just complete crap.

My wife is (was) one of the most non-gaming people I know, yet a Wii is all she wanted for Christmas. I happened to luck into one the week before Thanksgiving by walking into my local Toys R Us on the right day at the right time. She got it early and since then I have a hard time squeezing in any FPS time on my 360 unless she's out of the house. She is literally a Rayman addict now. If it can do that to her, then Nintendo did something right. (Don't get me wrong, I enjoy it too. Mario Galaxy is a blast.)

I would be wary about participating in a shady deal like that. Bide your time and get one retail or at the least pay the premium on eBay for one with a box and receipt. Otherwise, your warranty is probably screwed so pray there's nothing wrong with it.

My girlfriend is trying to find one for me for Christmas, but the cheapest you can get them from places like craigslist or ebay is around $400.

Kind of sucks, but Mario Galaxy looks really sweet.

how is rayman 2? I played the first on my Wii (it was the first game I played on it lol) and found it very funny and entertaining. i've considered picking up the second one but how does it compare to the first?
