COMPUSA Ads revealed

as always, it's a TN panel. If you're planning on using it for gaming/movies, I'd skip it. There are tons of these super cheap TN panels, but I haven't heard of one that doesn't have annoying viewing angle problems. I have an Acer 24in, but its the al2423w... the non-TN.

I should note that if you want a 24in LCD as a secondary or main for non-gaming-movies and just browsing and work stuff, these are a steal.

so is it just the viewing angles that suck on TN? or is there more ghosting? I dont know much about TN panels vs non but... are there any non TN panels on BF?

not all TN panels suck that bad.......

how many people sit to the side of their monitors, even in multi-monitor set ups, are you really that far to the side it screws up the view?

Not only angles, color gamut reproduction too. My SIPS panel beats my PVA panel beats my TN panel... I have all three types, color calibrated. You can tell when you work with 16bit graphic files....

I don't care about the colors being slightly off, or the viewing angle, I sit straight in front of the screen, and I don't do critical color work.

I want the fry's ad :(

Booooo, most of CompUSA decent deals require a MIR.......

Ahh k, i read a while back, i think on an H thread, that TN panels are the only ones that are getting any new real improvements, or advancements in them, other panels types are being ignored..?

Might be true... I believe Samsung was supposed to release a new S-IPS panel with their release of the 226's and the 245's, but I think it got cut due to concerns about that people wouldn't care for the higher quality panels and just wanted one that was big, worked, and looked good enough to show off; S-PVA is still used in the other non-lower-quality panels, but S-IPS are just too hard to make money off of I'd think.

So far, I think for the majority, they've been right. I wouldn't mind having an S-IPS panel, though. :)

I agree SIPS gets no loving anymore. Everyone want quantity, not quality.... :(

so on page 7, does that mean I can buy ut3, crysis, and get cod 4 and the orange box for free?

also right below that is says 4 easy ways to shop, so would that deal work online on friday?

What did you expect? Compusa is the king of MIR. I bet over 3/4ths of their normal Sunday ads each week (not including BF), are all MIR. It has gotten so bad with them, I stopped shopping there for that reason.

True, but so what? Folks who want better quality still get serviced, they just pay more for it. IMHO, you have to expect to pay more for better quality.

It's not always true, though; for example, a Toyota will outlast a BMW easy, at a fraction of the price. Still, that's an exception, not a rule, and the trade off is less horsepower, not as fancy, etc.

CompUSA got sued for their MIR and got alot better. Most of the ones from them are E-rebates now and are very easy to fill.

rebates are part of life, comp gets to borrow your money for 2months, you get it back, and get a really good deal, everyone wins! (assuming you are intelligent enough to read the instructions and spell your name correctly)

I just got home with my 24" after waiting in line an hour and a half. They had 8 in stock, but 6 were for the PC bundle. After raising a bit of hell they released them all and I got the 2nd one. The Icing on the cake is that a friend of mine saved a spot in the check out line, which spared me an hour wait, and then the cashier rang it up wrong.

I got the monitor for $241.xx after taxes and 2 year replacement warranty. I am going to still try the $80 rebate and see if I can get this down to $161! The quality is decent. It has some light bleed in the bottom 1/4, but that is easily fixed by angling the monitor and adjusting brightness/contrast. Just tried a few minutes of Crysis when before posting this. The monitor makes it look worse in that its even further from my native resolution to get playable framerates, but the colors are as good as my Westinghouse 22".

The woman at the ticket line just got it wrong. Its possible that the bundled PC deal brought an additional discount. They did pull this from the combo (still in its own retail box) so that might be why. Either way I am absolutely gitty! 24" is a surprising improvement on 22" LCD's concerning the size.
