USB Woes with Vista 64

Hello All,

I have major trouble with my USB devices and Vista 64.

I have my Saitek Eclipse II keyboard and Logitech G5 mouse which work perfectly. The only problem is that Vista keeps asking for drivers when I start Windows. If I select the "Don't Ask Again", Vista disables them (not good).
I have to "Ask Again Later" option to continue on.
My USB midi controllers (Music keyboards) just won't work at all. Windows asks for drivers, which I point to (Novation 64 bit drivers), but Vista will not install it.

I just got a new HP LJ1022 today, and tried to install the beta drivers for Vista 64(corrupt zip file on site anyone got a valid set? - will not install). Using HP online tech support I was trying to manually install by adding printer, local orinter, existing port but could not choose usb001 as it did not exist....

Support recommended i uninstall all usb controllers from the device manager. I got about 2 done and then mouse and keyboard were disabled (which makes sense). Anywho, I rebooted and Vista asked for drivers for USB controller, which it could not find, or locate in the intel folder (I just installed the lastest intel usb controller drivers) I did the suicidal Do Not Ask Again, and bang - no keyboard or mouse at all. Even Safe Mode no mouse or keyboard. I had to recover from the Vista Installation disc.

It would seem that Vista is not letting me install any new USB devices, and if I uninstall any previously installed devices, then they can't be installed again - What the hell is going on????

My BIOS (recently updated) settings all seem fine. I tried to change to O/S Plug'n'Play On but this makes no difference.

Sorry for the long rant.

I think that the Standard Universal PCI to USB Host Controller should not be standard - It should be Intel. I am gonig to to disable driver enforcement and see what happens...

Ahaa! I think you're battling the same problem I was battling today. I had a disappearing audio driver which got replaced with a Microsoft generic driver.

This kind of behaviour can be expected from an OS that takes the control away from the user. The mystery is unfolding..

Hey Irish, did you fix it, cause I have the same Mouse and KB and Im in the process of building a new PC with Vista 64.

After downloading and replacing USB.inf files, it was time to go nucleur...

Quick Format and Reinstall - All working perfect. I wouldn't be concerned, I can't see anyone else on forums with this problem.

Go for it.

I notice this installation was alot more smooth compared with original - eg. big name drivers being offered immediately.

With your typing skills, it's no wonder you're having problems..

G5 here with Vista, working fine. Do not install the Setpoint drivers, they're worthless anyways.
