Official Team Fortress 2 Thread

I just made the purchase through Steam. I know they are probably getting hit [H]ard but it would be nice if they could at least max out my net connection. :p

They usually max out my connection or get pretty close... it's only 2mbit... damn mexico...

My only question is, why the crap didn't you buy sooner? You could have been playing TF2 for a couple weeks. :p

valve nuked all the 32 player servers from the server list, if you have them in your favs you can see them but thats it. way to go valve

should i get this game?..is it deathmatch? never played teamfortress.....looks interesting

Sorry for asking... but trying to Google for an answer is starting to give me a headache.

How does this game run with a 7600gt?

should be fine...we've got similar system specs adn I'm able to play the game at 1680x1050 with some of the graphics options turned on.

I dont understand why people play in servers over 20 players, just turns into one big spam fest. I tend to stick to 16 or 18 man player servers when I can find them, usually alot better for my play style.

You said it yourself, you like it less but others like myself prefer larger servers. For me a 24 player server feels slow and boring and empty. You may feel that its a spam fest but for me its more fun.

It depends on the map for what size of players there should be. Anything more than 9 on 9 on 2fort feels too busy for me. But I definitely like more players for other maps.

yeah, 2fort is a smaller map for smaller amounts of players. However, anything less than 20 feels empty on say, dustbowl.

VALVE

BANNING 32 player servers is WRONG. WE WANT THE OPTION DAMNIT. HOW DARE YOU, tbh.

Btw, is the Steam Forum down?
Haven't been able to get on there since yesterday.

I think Valve turned off 32-player servers because it breaks certain maps like Dustbowl. Those maps were not designed by Valve to support 32 players as with 16 good defenders, it is nearly impossible to cap the last point.

Nearly impossible ;) but not IMPOSSIBLE...

8 stickys on stage 2 of dustbowl 32 player server :D = 9 kills... last 3 were sentrys... cleared out their defense and we won that stage pretty fast...

They were hiding in the corner of stage 2 trying to defend it... most engys put 3-4 sentrys over there.

Just go behind the rocks and launch out the right side w/ stickys, charge them up slightly, and as long as you don't get stabbed in the back or ambushed from the left (couple teammates help) you can take out their defense in about 20 seconds...

So what is the reasoning for restricting to only 24 man servers? Will this ever be lifted?

Ok, I see now , yeah the corner right after their spawn point. adjacent to their CP on the raised platform.

I love the game, but wow, so far I suck at it, and I'm usually pretty damn good at FPS's.

After playing UT3 demo I'm calling Team Fotress 2 game of the year so far. It is just awesome in everyway.

Just got The Orange Box from gamestop installing now....will report back after i played for a little..

I don't know what's with the servers I'm joining, but it seemed like there were still decent players during the beta, but now it's like EVERY pub I join is nothing but newbies asking how they get more metal. I'm not exactly complaining, it's expected to be like that when a new game comes out, but dang.... kind of frustrating though.

Last night I was playing the one map where there is only 2 captures and each team has one, don't remember what it's called. My team was ALL defense, there was a pyro or hwguy that tried moving forward, but at least half the team was engineers and were perfectly content sitting on top of our cap with their sentries waiting out the game. It (obviously) went into sudden death and all the engy's did the exact same thing. I shrugged and for some reason went Scout, just in case I could get into their base and cap. It was actually a little fun that nobody on my team was doing anything, I was able to take out about half of their team and got into their base once or twice and almost capped before accidentally falling from one of the top sections right in front of a sentry of theirs. Good times though running back and forth taking out snipers, healing, picking off a pyro with the pistol. I was surprised I lasted into the last minute of SD being all offensive. Had a definite adrenalin rush after that game.

I agree that there's been a pretty rapid influx of new players since the retail release. And I don't just mean new to playing TF2, but seemingly new to the entire concept of the game. I was amazed at how easy it was to coordinate in pubs during the beta. Oh well, as a team-based game in which tactics are much more important than skill, I expected to be scrimming for most of my time with the game, anyways.

Just started playing since the orange box out. I'm almost always at the top of the point list.

I have been playing tons of TF since it came out for quake 1 though. It has always been my favorite mod. Counter-strike has been on the low end of the list.

if i have a single smart medic with me, im always on top of list.

I am my clan's only serious medic player. :(
I am often in the top 3 of my team at the end of each map. :)

I love my bone saw sooo much. Last night I killed so many heavies, demomen and snipers with
the saw. Puts a smile on a smile on face whenever I kill someone as a medic.

Never underestimate a man of SCIENCE!

...and it continues

The thing you all don't realize is....I'm so 1337 that as soon as I log onto a server, it automatically puts me at the top of the score board with 9,962 points since all servers ph34r my pwn4g3

I > all

And while you're basking in your 1337ness a sniper picks you off and the other team caps the final point? oooooooh :p
