Dual Sammy 245BW vs Dual Westy L2410NM

Hey, I am looking to buy a pair of dual 24 inch monitors in the coming months. Basically, I want to spend the least amount of money I can and still be very happy with them. Gaming performance does not bother me, I do video editing, graphics work, photography, and movies. Contrast ratio is important, deep blacks make me happy. Inputs are a plus, but not needed. I have narrowed it down to two monitors:

Samsung 245BW or the Westinghouse L2410NM
--------------------------------------

Samsung 245BW:
Pros: Preferred brand, height adjustment and swivel, thinner bezel, Dynamic Contrast of 3000:1, DVI, longer 3-year warranty , blue power light

Cons: More expensive, few inputs

Westinghouse L2410NM
Pros: Cool glass look, tons of inputs, brighter, much cheaper

Cons: NO DVI, less trusted brand, lesser warranty, thicker bezel, no height or swivel, no DC​

So, what do you think. Do I pay more the the Sammy and have the luxery of a longer warranty, thinner bezel, and the DVI? Or do I suffer through the no-power-saving of the Westy and save some cash?

Does anyone have these, hopefully someone can help me out. :D

I don't know much about the westinghouse, but the vertical viewing angle is really bad on the Samsung. I bought one and had it for a day. The monitor is simply too big for the type of panel it is, and the bottom and top of the screen get shadowed as a result.

Also it's worth mentioning that since the panel is a very reflective surface and it has a very pronounced border, I was annoyed by the reflection on the top of the trim if I was viewing it in an area of low light.

Well, I have thought a lot about this, and really, viewing angles bother me very little. I sit in front of my computer in the same way all the time, and that is just how it is. I get annoyed if the monitor moved a centimeter honestly. So, not like the viewing angle effects me much at all.

I just need to know how good it looks at the optimum viewing angle. Can someone enlighten me on how viewing angles can really effect the use? Do you just decide to stand up while typing a paper and get annoyed that it doesn't look as good from up there? ;)
 
I have the Westy. The viewing angles (vert and horizontal) and brightness is uncanny. :cool:

I thought the same thing before I bought the 245.

And then I turned it on and sat down at my desk.

The problem is that the vertical viewing angle is so bad, that there is no such thing as a solid shade across the entire panel.

If you're looking at a blank white screen for example, the edges are darker. If you move your head a little bit, they appear just fine, like the center of the screen does.

No LCD is perfect, at least not that I've seen in the budget-priced 24 inch size. But if what you want is a completely uniform panel, the 245 is certainly not it. To me, that's one of the most important things.

It would seem that there are no perfect lcd's in the normal price range either. I bought a dell 24" and while the green ghosting doesn't bother me because its so situational and I don't notice it, the slight colorshifting is a little bothersome. It's too bad that the ips 24" are $1000+.

How thick is the bezel on that screen? Also, do you find the lack of DVI annoying? Using the HDMI, there is no power saving move, eh? Always having to physically turn the monitors on and off would get annoying, especially with two of them. :rolleyes:
 
The bezel is 1 inch and the glass on the bottom is an extra inch. I actually heard that the VGA (D-Sub) port looks better than HDMI to DVI. So I decided to just use a VGA cable with a DVI adapter on the end that goes into my x1900xt.

I have my 360 hooked up to it thru HDMI. When I press the source button I can switch back and forth between my 360 and puter! I love that feature. Especially because I like to play music through my speakers while my puter is on and play 360 at the same time!

Looks very crisp and colors/contrast is great. The default brightness is too high but there are different picture modes that allow you do run different brightness setting with the touch of a button.
 
Hmmmm, it is hard to believe that the VGA would actually look better than the HDMI... is that even possible?
 
I've had a 245 for a few months now, and I love it. I don't play games at all, I just do my daily web browsing and loads of video editing. Viewing angles have never bothered me. I have no hesitation recommending it. I'll be buying another one within a few months probably.

Maybe I just got lucky with the panel in mine, but I don't have dark edges when viewing directly, nor do I have ANY light bleed whatsoever.
 
same boat here, i love my 245bw. i do notice the poor vertical viewing angle but it doesn't bother me much at all. what impressed me is the bleed is nothing. i mean really nothing. very very uniform backlighting.
 
Hmmm, this is hard. I've heard a lot of praise and complaints on both sides. I tend to trust the Samsung brand a bit more, but I would love to see a picture of these two monitors side-by-side. I prefer using the DVI, but if I can save a good $200 and have to flip the monitors off manually, it might be worth it.

Hmmm, any direct suggestions, or anyone else in the same boat?
