AMD Black Box 5000+

edit: blah nm, i feel bad making fun of amd's marketing. they need do whatever they can

it might be a new batch of 65nm cores. I hope it overclocks to 4Ghz. :-D

I'd settle for: "overclocks as well as the current 90nm procs."

This might prove to be a decent stopgap processor until Phenom is released.

yeah I think it was over on the ncix forums but they quoted a source saying is was a bribane core putting in the 65nm die.

AMD must be pretty confident with the silicon on this chip to unlock it. I wonder how high it can OC stable? What are the realistic expectations with a 65nm process?

If it's the same stuff as in our current Brisbanes, I would expect not much more than 3. F3 90nms do much better than the current 65nm A64s...hopefully Phenom will change that.

Then this has to be better silicon. I can't imagine AMD releasing unlocked 65nm processors only to have customers RMA them for failure. These have to be more durable (cooler) like the XP-M Athlons from a few years back.

maybe it is secretly a phonom x2!!!! =p
It will be interesting to see the OC results once people report their experiences. It might also be indicative of the dual core/tri core Phenom potential in a few months.

Simple, AMD doesn't accept the warranty of an overclocked chip even if it is a "black edition".

Doesn't 5000+ = 2.6 ghz / 512kb cache?

The Black Box 6400's have the unlocked multi as well I'm assuming. Since these are retail packages do they come with the full 3 year warranty even though they don't come with a heatsink/fan?

Whatever the actual silicon is, it will be interesting to see the OC results, especially if it's 65nm because it will give us some idea what Phenom might be like.

They were giving this an "edgy" promotion becuase its a brisbane core processor so you'll never know your true temps. Pump that bad boy up to 3.5ghz and sit on the edge of your seat wondering when your motherboard will go up in flames!!!

?

This won't give us any indication as to how Phenom will overclock.

Could HardOCP please get one of these chips and review/Overlock it?

Maybe see how high with air cooling and watercooling?

It's confirmed to be a new 65nm stepping for the 5000+.
First reports are 3ghz at stock volts, but waiting for more results
