Metroid Prime 3 - Don't even think about it, just buy it!

I picked up Corruption today and it has been a pretty amazing experience. Played the first two hours and the meta ridley fight was intense, I set the controls to advanced and it felt kinda funny at first but after a little while I got used to it and it's hands down the best shooter controls for consoles I've experienced.

As for the graphics it's hands down the best looking game on the wii so far. Looks better then anything last gen, and that in my book is awesome.

Metroid Prime 3 > Bioshock

I was on the 3rd level of Bioshock, the one in the garden when I went to get Prime 3. I played for about an hour then went back to Bioshock. Meh, this is boring after 10 min and went back to playing Prime 3.

I personally thought Metroid Fusion on the GBA was the best Metroid game to date. Imma hafta check out this new one on the Wii. I've been waiting for it for quite awhile. Just wish I had more money for games right now :D

Agreed!!! Fusion was awesome. I'll have to evaluate how corruption stacks up to it after I'm finished with it.

I remember metroid prime on the cube. Meh... nothing special, yet the nintendo fanboys raved about that one too. Reading all the yay yay prime 3>bioshock comments makes me feel like Im having deja vu!

Dont knock the people complaining about the wii's graphics though. GOW or Bioshock just wouldnt be the same without the amazing atmospheric graphics that suck you in. The wii's lack of such graphics is the reason its game's catalogue is full of gimick games. It's hardware isnt capable of much more (people say cube 1.5 for a reason). Which is a good thing if its target market is people who like gimicky games! So everyone's a winner, other than the hardcore gamer who gets maybe 2 or possibly 3 intense full on games a year from Nintendo.

I am curious about this iteration of prime, but its not enough to make me go out and buy a wii. Its not a 'killer must have game'.

So you don't own a Wii and haven't played this new game which displays the platforms performance capabilities (Wiimote AND Visual)....but you feel confident enough to call us all fanbois because it's graphics aren't as good as Bioshock, and the games are all gimmicks.

Do you have a newsletter I can sign-up for?

Oh, and IMO -- the Wiimote sucks you into a game a LOT more than the dual-analog control sticks. But thats just my PERSONAL opinion.

Before my Wii, I haven't personally owned anything nintendo since the original gameboy. I bought a gameboy just to play Punisher which I still have :D
I played Metroid Fusion on someone else's GBA and thought it was great though.
I bought a Wii because I thought the new innovative controllers would be alot of fun for the whole family and in groups even with people who didn't play video games. And it is. I still play Wii sports from time to time. Bowling and tennis is a blast. There have been a few games that were just out of the Wii's league like Call of Duty 3. While the game could still be fun to play, there is just too much junk on the screen at once and low res graphics to figure out what's going on most of the time. So I'll agree with you that there are only 2 or 3 games maybe per year that the Wii is going to be able to put out that appeal to hardcore gamers. That can be said for just about every console and PC games as well though. Every gaming platform is flooded constantly with one crappy game after another. It's more and more difficult these days to weed through them all to find a great one. Alot of people can't afford to waste 50 or 60 bux on a game that they don't like. Wii sould put out Demo disks in magazines or somethin' so we can try out some of these Wii games, I think. Even on the 360, they SHOULD put out a demo for EVERY game coming out. Not just a few here and there.
Graphics shmraphics. Video game companies these days tend to concentrate so much of their time and money on how the game looks and not on whether or not it's fun to play. Bioshock is the first game since Half Life 2 that I thought had great graphics and was great fun to play. On the Wii, just about every game is great fun to play just because of the use of the controllers. It's not just a gimmick. It's the future of gaming, IMO. In the future, we'll have similar controlling capabilities and great graphics.

So i had to send my Wii in for repair this week (bad graphics card) so no Prime 3 for me :( . But i hooked up my Gamecube to my TV (in sig) via composite cables to finish Metroid Prime 2 Echos (Final Boss) and man it looked all blurry i was amazed at how much better it looked on the Wii with Component video. It looks amazing. So if you have the Wii and a HDTV i recommend you get the Component Cable for it ASAP.

worth renting it out first.. but dont tell me to just buy it and not think about it.. I traded my 360 for a Wii hoping to enjoy the system, but i was wrong.. even my 7year old son got bored after a week of playing the Wii Sports and there's no other title out there worth buying.. I'm not trying to troll or agreed trolls.. I'm just voicing out my own observation and opinion... Like I said, i'll rent the game first and decide if it's worth keeping it.. :) Enjoy.

well metroid is the first real wii game

just wait things will change this fall

For the most part, the Wii is made for party games or MP "in-person". If your son is playing alone...then I would consider the 360 more (e.g. GoW online, Halo online, etc.) I imagine Halo would also be good for MP "in-person", but it does have somewhat of a steep learning curve (high frustration for noobs).

I won't be ashamed to admit it - after beating Z:TP, I didn't turn on my Wii. Yes, that's right, MP3 is the game that got me to turn it on again. Now that should say something (both + and - lol).

Opinions are like assholes... There were a lot of people who thought the analog controllers were a gimmick (Nights on sega saturn? So many people i knew thought that analog was "stupid" N64 also when it came out). But it became a must have for video games. This motion sensing is here to stay.

Well i was right before the sky temple in Zelda TP when i got the bug.. corrupted my save, and i lost 5 hours of work (35 hours in at that point). I got very discouraged and ive been meaning to recover and bang out the game ever since, yet i just havent yet..

mario strikers is what got my playing my wii a lot more often. The online play is wonderful and its an overall great game..

Strikers started the end of the year bash for me.. next will be prime, which i will be picking up tomorrow and then its all crazy from there :p

What is it with this "opinions are like assholes" stuff? If there was ever an embodiment of the concept of opinion, it would have to be a forum board.

Probably that poster's frustration in dealing with the xbox/sony fanboys, who come in commenting on a game (or the system) they haven't even played.

There's an opinion based on experience. And then there's just an opinion. Most of what we've seen here in this thread is the latter.

My point is the Wii is a last gen console with a new controller, last gen games cost mostly $20 now, why should I pay double for a game bringing nothing to the table to warrant a higher price? The controller doesn't drive development costs up very much and nintendo continues to ignore online play completely but it seems its ok and tolerated because they are nintendo

That was one of the dumbest posts I've ever seen on this forum.

1. Last gen game prices when they hit retail were and are $49.99. VERY FEW titles ever launch at the $20 price point. They get to that point after they've sold a substantial quantity at the $49.99 price point. On occasion a few have launched at $39.99, as have a few Wii games.

2. According to reviews which *unilaterally* give the game ratings from 8.5-9.5 out of 10, MP3 brings a LOT to the table, and a good deal of that is in terms of top rate controls.

I agree it's unfortunate that MP3 has no online play, but realistically it wasn't so long ago when NO game supported online play, and many of those Single Player ONLY games are among the best games ever to be released *period*.

Nobody's giving Nintendo a pass on online gaming "because they're Nintendo", that's an absurd claim. Were people giving Sony a pass on online gaming after they failed to provide network capabilities to PS2 a YEAR after Dreamcast launched with it included? No. Were they giving Sony a pass when they introduced their tacked-on, afterthought of a network adapter that they barely supported while Xbox was revolutionizing online console gaming? No. The bottom line is this: Online gaming is important, and it counts for a lot, but it's not even CLOSE to overriding the importance of a solid single player experience.

YES, Nintendo is going way too slow at delivering on the online experience, but if that's your primary reason for avoiding what's being proclaimed by practically everyone as one of the best games of the year, then you are a sad example of what a Gamer used to be.

I'm not sure how you can even *compre* MP3 with Bioshock, LOL. They are two VERY different games, and I think there's plenty of room for enjoying both.

I played a bit today , and MP 3 has made me wipe off the dust off my wii. I only played for an hour or so, and the controls via wiimote and nunchuck seem to be very intuitive.

These graphics are most definitely last gen, the gameplay is nothing new (More WAGGLE!)
.

Better than anything on PS3 and X360.

I'd take liquid smooth 60 FPS over extreme lighting/textures ANY day.

Anyway, this game is perfect. Perfect controls, and my personal fetish, perfect framerate. Retro Studios should be your new GOD.

I posted this on a couple other boards, but here it is again for good measure:

Not ready to write a review, as I'm not done with the game yet.

Here are my impressions so far.

I'm already on Elysia.

The boss battles I've fought are AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm not going to spoil it for anyone; just play through it for yourselves. I've got the difficulty set to "Veteran" and it's sometimes still a little easy... hopefully I'll unlock Hard mode with first playthrough.

Game definitely kicks ass. Controls are virgintight. Graphics kick as much ass as the other 2 games (which means "incredible"). All new jaw dropping environs and enemies.

and my personal favorite...

60 frames per second!!!!

My overzealous faith in Retro Studios is not invested without reason.

Even the Wiimote's in game "cursor" moves liquid smooth at 60 FPS... I'm really impressed. Seriously flat out floored by the controls.

Just hope I don't get carpal tunnel syndrome from holding the damn thing while I lay down. My wrist is cocked downward at a 45° angle.

Lastly... a cool thing I've discovered... Member how in the other MP games the "lock on" target made (holding down the L button) forced you to hone in on only ONE thing?

Go into the Options menu and change the "Sensitivity" setting (no idea why they called it that) and change it to "Advanced."

This will allow you to lock on to one enemy and shoot something else (another enemy, or a crate with powerups or something) while retaining the abilities to strafe around, lock-on scan, and side dash around the enemy.

That way, also, it will make aiming more challenging instead of mindlessly holding down the L button while in battle.

This game takes FPS games to a whole new level... Methinks Wii was built for it. If you're contemplating a purchase, or don't own a Wii yet, go out and buy this. Seriously.

Troll this, troll that, you fanboys just can't take an opposing opinion. Kind of like elementary school children "NAH-UH!!"

No offense, but that "review" is a bit um...Fanboyish. You're not going to convert anyone writing in that manner, and comments like "Better than anything on PS3 and X360" above that aren't helping. I'm sure it's a fantastic game, and I intend to score a copy as soon as I've finished some other titles, but let's not get stupid here.

Talking about the graphics.

I get that, and even talking about the graphics, it's not better than everything on PS3 and 360. Better than shovelware trash like PD0, sure, but better than Bioshock? I don't think there's even a contest, and I say that as someone who remains *very* impressed by MP3's graphics.

60FPS is fantastic--but it's not everything. I happen to agree that Nintendo should have beefed up the hardware a bit more, but at the same time I understand why they didn't--it simply isn't necessary or even prudent for the market that exists today. In a few years that'll be another story, of course, and I've no doubt we'll see a Wii HD by then, complete with Metroid HD of some flavor or another.

It looks *great*--for a Wii game, even let's say for an early 360 game--but up to par with Bioshock? Sorry, no, and to be taken seriously the review needs to reflect some objectivity, which I can't really say it does.

60FPS is fantastic--but it's not everything.

Totally subjective.

For me, 60FPS > textures/lighting/resolution. MP3 has very good textures, and lighting occasionally, but because it runs 60FPS it becomes more attractive. 60FPS COMPLETELY 100% stable pushes it over the top for me.

Sorry, no, and to be taken seriously the review needs to reflect some objectivity, which I can't really say it does.

He said he wasn't writing a review and that these were his impressions.

I will agree that technically these graphics aren't "better than anything on PS3 or 360", but I think you'll see where he's coming from when you play the game for a while. There's a lot to be said about artistic direction and I've always felt the Prime series was second to none in that regard.

When most shooters are content with recycling the same rooms over and over again, the Prime games have always made nearly every room distinct and visually engaging. Prime 3 carries on this fine tradition, and it's obvious that they have some incredibly talented artists on their team.

As much as I loved Bioshock, as striking as it looked, I find Corruption more visually engaging thanks to the incredible variety in the planets and their various regions. This game really shows off what the Wii is capable of technically, especially in regards to lighting and particle effects, but all the graphical features in the world can't create a strong and coherent artistic vision, something that Corruption has in spades.

Yea, I now played Prime for 4 hours now and still think it's awesome. Although I kept redoing an area because I couldn't think of something simple for awhile, but thats life I guess. Really just playing on Normal difficulty right now and the games really easy, probably will try Veteran after then maby hard if Galaxy's still isn't out.

I'm totally addicted to Prime I can't put it down. I've totally given up on Bioshock to finish Prime. The controls just feel so good it just sucks you in. The boss battles are just freakin' EPIC. I'm playing on veteran mode and the bosses just kick your ass. I fought one for like 6 minutes before realising I wasn't even wearing it down at all. You have to scan the bosses for weak points.

There is something about Metroid that makes you just want to play and play. It is just so entertaining, space jumping all over the place, swinging with the grapple beam and rolling up into a little ball and slipping through vent shafts and tunnels. Nothing beats that! I don't even have any serious weapon upgrades yet and I'm still hooked.

Question....

Anyone know why there is an update right before u load the game for the first time?
New graphics drivers? New anti-piracy patch?

Wii firmware update basically, which acts as a anti-piracy patch as well, wouldn't be surprised if it updated each time a major game is released.

QFT...Environment>>>>>>>>>raw graphical output

Take Far Cry, when the game first came out, everyone was ZOMG crazy over it because of its advanced visuals. The game is fun as hell, but its either jungle or bunker (save the carrier level, which is a floating bunker). The environment was very weakly created and apart from the stealth aspects of the game, it does not enhance the feel or artistic aspects of the game one bit--it is plain bland.

Now take Resident Evil 4 (no matter which console, they both kick ass). You hop around from small village to cliffsides to old spanish castles to island citadels. Not only that, but the art and lighting/scenery increases the overall gameplay exponentially. The raw graphics are pretty damn good, but they didnt take as big of a step games like far cry did when they were released. However, in this case a game like Resident Evil4 was much more exciting to play through simply because of the art and environment youre thrown into.

MP3 is similar to Resident Evil4 in this aspect, it doesn't achieve the same raw visuals of any of the other newer games for other consoles, but it has an amazing environment that enhances the gameplay further beyond graphically advanced games.

If you don't like the game, thats fine, but you have to give Retro props for the amazing environments and art they put in their games.

I'm playing on Veteran now, and am at the Brya boss. He kicked my ass 2 times this morning before I left for work. I'll have to sit down and give beating him some more thought. Not going into any details, but i'm eating through too much energy using hyper mode, and by the end when he's almost dead, i've got a sliver of energy left and no way to finish him off.

This game is incredible.

Same thing happened to me. I'm also on Veteran and he's proved to be the biggest challenge so far. I don't know if you've noticed, but he also has an orb on his back, so be sure to save enough energy to take down that. Also, never stay in hyper mode too long as it does drain a lot of health.

Troll this, troll that, you fanboys just can't take an opposing opinion. Kind of like elementary school children "NAH-UH!!"

What a bunch of bullshit. Take it from an old timer who's come back to read a thread and pretty much wants to vomit. YOU figs are the fanbois. No one who has commented on the game nagatively seems to have played it at all! WTF is this shit? You could pretty much take the bullshit being spewed and put it in any Wii thread. 90% of people with Wiis on [H] probably has an xbox360 or PS3. Many readily admit they've shelved their Wiis for a bit until this game came out. Do you even know what fanboy means? Hmm... I wonder which camp is dissing shit simply because they don't have it and have almost zero basis to form an opinion. Anyone with more than 2 brain cells fighting each other can see who the fanboys are. Simply speaking you and people like you suck. You suck the fun out of people trying to talk about the game and eventually run someone so damn tired of the BS that they don't come back. You probably ARE in elementary school. So I'll leave it at that.
