I have never played a Metroid game in my life (and i have owned quite a few Nintendo consoles back in the day).

From the intro to the menu to the music and finally to the gameplay... pure perfection.

As soon as you get to control Samus you know that you are in for an epic action adventure fps. I had also read that you should set the sensativity to "Advanced" but i found it to be TOO sensative, so i would suggest Normal (I believe it was called "Basic", basically the one that is in the middle).

I have only played 30 minutes of the game. And enjoyed 35 minutes of it (the extra 5mins were for the anticipation of opening the wrapper and having the game update the actual Wii, which my guess is to update the graphics driver). The only negative thing about the game is that it does not include any sort of multiplayer campaign (Nintendo could've easily included one, be it online or split screen). I mean think about it the Nintendo DS is capable of playing online deathmatches and the Wii can't?

This is a MUST get game for every Wii owner. Go buy it, don't even think about it, just go get it.

After Prime 3, please do yourself a favor and play some Metroid games ;O

If I have any money for a game I'm certainly not spending it on metroid, far too many great games to spend it on my disappointing Wii, maybe if they start pricing their games the same as last gen games I will start buying them because that is all they are.

If Nintendo wants to ignore online play I will never buy one of their games, especially full price.

Awesome! One less person in front of me at the store!

Too bad for you, you'll be missing out on a great game. Personally, I find that the controls and level of immersion offered in this game are second to none. No FPS on the "HD consoles" can match this thanks to the amazing controls that put any dual analog setup to shame.

And where do Wii games cost more than last-gen games? Here they cost $49.99 on release, just like games from last generation.

My point is the Wii is a last gen console with a new controller, last gen games cost mostly $20 now, why should I pay double for a game bringing nothing to the table to warrant a higher price? The controller doesn't drive development costs up very much and nintendo continues to ignore online play completely but it seems its ok and tolerated because they are nintendo

Wow, just wow. I thought we'd got past this kind of thinking, but apparently there are still people who talk like this trolling around?

Why are Wii games only worth $20? Because they're visuals aren't as good as PS2 and 360 games? How does a game that features a highly innovative and perfectly implemented control scheme, along with top notch artistic direction, "bring nothing to the table"? For my money, this new control scheme, that shames every dual analog setup to tears, with it's ingenious touches like the grapple beam control and the switch interaction does far more to elevate this medium than some shiny new graphics.

And Nintendo isn't ignoring online, I play Mario Strikers Charged online quite regularly and it's a very fun game. The only reason Metroid doesn't feature multiplayer or online play is because it's always been a singleplayer focused experience (barring that mediocre DS game that used Metroid more as a skin pack than an inspiration). They experimented with multiplayer in Echoes, but it just didn't work out because the Metroid experience doesn't translate well to multiplayer gaming. Metroid is all about isolation, it's about exploring alien worlds all on your own, it's not Quake and it's not Halo.

It's outrageous to suggest that a game not featuring multiplayer makes it automatically worth $30 less than most games. As was said, another great example is Bioshock. I'd rather see developers spend their resources pouring everything they have into a rich, detailed singleplayer experience rather than waste time tacking on another boring DM retread filled with gutted singleplayer levels just so the publisher can list multiplayer as a bullet point on the box. You look at Metroid and Bioshock and you see labors of love, filled with beautiful locales, stellar artistic direction, and all kinds of minute details scattered about. Great singleplayer experiences like the ones found in these two games are more than worth my money, if you don't think they're worth yours, than your loss.

Bioshock is easily worth my money, but Metroid will never be more then a last gen game with a new controller to me.

This is coming from someone who cut his teeth on the NES (at 9 years old, mind you)version of Metroid: buy the damn game. Metroid is what it is, a great single player experience. Nothing more, nothing less...certainly not less these days!

I hate to agree, being one who snatched the WII up on launch day, but I've been too disappointed with what I've seen from the WII to even give this a second look at its current price tag.

These graphics are most definitely last gen, the gameplay is nothing new (More WAGGLE!)

So, no online, no updated graphics... Is waggle-motion is the only appeal here, yet again? Because last gen graphics and game mechanics certainly are not.

The graphics are far better than either of the last two Prime games, definitely more than the Gamecube could handle.

The game doesn't feature "waggle". Waggle is in Twilight Princess when you just swing the Wii-mote aimlessly to do an attack. In Metroid, what you do with the Wii-mote is more or less what you're doing in the game. Whether it's aiming, twisting levers, or throwing a grapple beam and pulling it back, everything makes sense. There's no random waggling that doesn't make sense, it's all quite classy.

Sorry, try again.

Please, for the love of all that is holy don't judge this game by screenshots. Metroid Prime games are games that really must be seen in person before passing judgment on their graphics. If you see it in person and still don't find it attractive, that's fine. But give it a chance.

Can't wait to get MP3 (gotta beat Bioshock first). It's on my very short list of games I want compared to the other crap thats being released on all 3 consoles. Last gen my face. It's redefigning game play and giving you a completely new outlook to playing a game. Has anything else really done that thus far? (rhetorical question :D)

A few more games like this, and I might buy a Wii. I know the wife would love to play Animal Crossing on it, at the very least. :)

I guess I'll be sailing in the same boat as these other trolls. I know graphics aren’t everything, but at the same time, I don't want to be playing GC games with a new controller. I think instead of them releasing the Wii, they should of just came out with the controller for the GC... and if that took off, then should of released a more powerful Wii. I still want a Wii, but I'm not sure its going to have a long life span, kinda get this weird feeling that Nintendo is gonna come out with something more powerful withen the next few years (probably before M$ or $ony)

On a side note.... I wished they released this Metroid for the GC.. like Zelda:TP... so that I don't have to spend 200+ to play it. :p

like i wish they released GTA4 for the regular xbox so i dont have to buy a new console.

But on topic , ive waited for most of the website to review it . I have to say i will totally pick it up on the way home tonight

Well I guess Nintendo should be glad they didn't listen to you. Last time I checked they are winning this gen of consoles.. I really do believe only the younger generation put so much focus on how games look. I am willing to bet, almost anyone that was at least 7 or 8 when the orginial NES came out, has absoultly no problems with the graphics on the Wii.

I believe we tend to evaluate games on thier gameplay, not looks. Some other gamers who are late late 20s, on up back me up on this assumption.

They are winning the console sales, but game attach rates are half of its top competitor, because once people realize the novelty they get bored of it.

Awesome game!!!!! Just finished beating MetaRiley last night, and boy was that a stisfying battle. Can't wait to continue tonight.

Unless you've played it, you really dont have any call in saying how it actually is. The real truth about Metroid Prime 3 is that it is, by and far, one of the best games released this year. This isnt a game implementing "waggle". This is a full feature utilizing what the Wiimote and Nunchuk were made for. Full control of your weaponry without having to dick around with an analog thumb button for aiming. This is as close to the aiming capacity a PC has in FPSs that any console has come, and it shames the control schemes set up by any of the other current gen consoles. I own a 360 and a PS3, so i'm not talking about something that I havent experienced.

Again, this is the really the first game on the Wii system that fully takes advantage of how good the Wii control methods actually are, and I dont think that people are giving it the benefit of the doubt because there havent been any big releases for the system yet. My take on the whole thing is that there was some serious doubt about the ability of the controller system for the Wii Console, so no one really took a serious effort in making games for the system. After seeing was Retro has done with MP3, I cant help but believe that other companies out there are finally going to realize that the Wii is much more than a hand wagging toy. There's proof of this fact in MP3.

I will say that no, the game doesnt have the polish of something like Gears of War (which I do very much enjoy), but it still looks very good. If you're being hung up on the belief that the Wii is a last gen console... save it. That's far from the truth.

So i'll go ahead and reiterate... This is one of the best games to be released this year, and that statement (opinion) spans all consoles and PC. This isnt a novelty, this is better than any other console control.

Or they are casual gamers to begin with. You know, casual gamers, the market Nintendo was aiming for. People who only buy a game every two or three months, not because they don't enjoy them, but because console games aren't the only thing they do.

That said, does anyone have a reliable source for attach rates? All I am ever able to find are a mishmash of quotes from months apart and with little explanation of what was and wasn't counted.

Well I'm guessing he's just looking at big AAA titles and how many game sales those have. Obviously 360 has GoW and Halo3, so that's all they like to crow about. That said, it is true that for the # of Wii sales, the sales of a game such as Z:TP aren't as high as expected. E.g., you may expect something like 80-90%, but cuz so many Wii owners may not have been past gamers, I expect that the attach rate for Z:TP is closer to 50-60%, and may probably be lower than that even.

*Someone needs to check though, I can't remember what site actually had game sale data...

Look, I know theres a bunch of trolls in this thread trying to derail it by bashing nintendo so they can get their jollies from seeing people get upset at them. WTG. I don't care about your opinion in the slightest. If you don't like the Wii, thats fine. I'm not gonna force you to like it. Its your loss, not mine. I'm thoroughly enjoying Metroid Prime 3, and if you want to come into a thread and talk about how much a game (which you never played) probably sucks, then go take it somewhere else.

This is for the people interested in knowing more about the game, and those playing it:

Prime 3 rocks. I've only played about an hour, I just got the new suit, upgrade (trying not to spoil anything here) and the thing you get with that suit is amazing. I can't wait to try it out against some enemies (I saved just after getting it).

Looking at the inventory screen, HOLY CRAP theres a lot of upgrades. I mean, theres ??????'s all over the place. Weapons, grapple, armor, upgrades everywhere. Can't wait to check THOSE guys out.

The control scheme ROCKS. Theres something VERY satisfying about physically ripping off an enemies shield with the nunchuck. The wiimote with the weapon firing is just purely enjoyable.

Dialogue, voice acting, and storyline so far have been engaging. Interacting with people and lots of different elements throughout the game has been great. I like that you can talk to people you meet, etc. The objectives system is neat, and I'm looking forward to seeing how that develops.

Every MOMENT of the game so far has been incredibly fun and just wow. I'm itching to get home and play it tonight...

Yep... and you get upgrades for your ship as well. You get a special tactical visor that allows you to contact your ship and have it come in and blow away certain impassable objects for you.

Just beat the first boss on the first planet myself, and the battle made use of every weapon and ability that I had in my arsenal. Downing him after a long fight and getting my new weaponry upgrade was wholly satisfying

I cant wait to get home and play some more tonight.

Well 3.61 Million Copies of Twilight Princes on wii as of July 07... since I think the Wii had sold around 9 million about that time thats about a 40% attach rate. Considering the large amount of casual players purchasing the Wii I think it's a pretty good also a lot of people purchased it on the Gamecube as well.

I'm one of the casuals. I bought Z:TP nearly 6 months ago and still haven't finished yet. Metroid is next on my list.

I still reply my old FPS games that look like crap... and I play my NES, SNES N64 games as well.

I'm only 22 but I know that its all about gameplay. Maybe because I appreciate a game for the way it plays, not the way it looks

this game looks comparable to some 360 games
the graphics aren't bad they are pretty damn good

First, look at the computer in my signature. I have Bioshock for the PC. When I picked up Prime yesterday, I stopped playing Bioshock. I can't put Metroid down. What does that tell you? :D

By the way, if you want to experience the greatest 2D videogame of all time (arguably, at least one of the best) download Super Metroid on the virtual console.

I hear ya.

I actually finished Bioshock the day before Corruption came out and it was an amazing experience. I think they're both great games, but so far I'm going to have to give the nod to Corruption. Bioshock has a better story and more variety in the combat but Corruption has far better boss fights and more variety in the enemies. They both have stellar art direction (which I value much more than technical graphical prowess) and incredible atmospheres, but Corruption has a higher level of immersion thanks to the highly intuitive and ingenious Wii-mote controls.
