"Talking to Gamasutra, Frank Pearce, founding member and senior vice president of product development for Blizzard revealed that the company has a third team hard at work on a new title, separate from World of Warcraft and StarCraft II.

The comment came amid discussion of the company's current workforce. "Our global headcount is 2,700," said Pearce, "And most of that is customer service for World of Warcraft! In terms of development staff it’s probably around 350. World of Warcraft is about 135 people, 40 for Starcraft II, 40 for team 3, our cinematics team is about 85 guys. Then there’s sound and Q/A and that sort of thing."

When pressed for details regarding the new project, Pearce was cagey. "Team 3 is working on something really awesome. I can’t give you any hints, but it’s totally awesome."

All attempts to extract additional information were understandably met with looks of shock and horror from Blizzard's director of global public relations, who also attended the meeting. Gamasutra was able to confirm that in spite of Rob Pardo's comments at Hollywood and Games that they weren't giving up on StarCraft Ghost, this project remains something different. With Blizzcon coming up in mere weeks, it maybe be reasonable to assume there could be a new title revealed at that time."

I wonder if they are going to announce it at Blizz Con in a couple of weeks.

Thanks for the info, Blizz is so illusive. PC gaming is becoming [H] again with all the new games in developement.

Well, it isn't as if he's going to say "Nah, they're a pack of nancyboys, their project is probably gonna bomb bad. I wouldn't write about them if I were you, it sucks that hard."

Besides, it's always a good idea to have something else on the backburner while you're working on something. And with the money flow into Blizz, they can probably afford that backburner pretty well.

I want them to bring out the new WoW expansion pack -- I really want Worgen as a playable race :D

World of Starcraft. WoW is their biggest money maker, so it's logical to assume that making Starcraft a MMOG is going to come about.

Logical, except we already know that their next game is gonna be SC2, a rts. Why would they want to give the already-saturated SC fanbase(after SC II releases) another game when the Diablo community haven't had one for 8 or so years? For the love of god I hope they're working on Diablo 3.

Well they probably won't create another supplimental MMO, I'm hoping its Daiblo III, and a gut instinct tells me it is, one of the reason's Blizzard moved the Warcraft series from RTS (which I hated, I love all the Warcrafts and would of prefered to have seen a Starcraft MMO) since they had 2 titles being essentially the same exact thing, so now they have a MMO, RTS, and point/click/kill titles.

The one thing I'm worried about, the companies subdivision that created Diablo to begin with, Blizzard North is no longer apart of the company, and most of the head developers for the game are now gone with some working on Hellgate: Londong. IF[/i] it is Diablo III, you should probably expect it to work and play completely different from I and II, but still try to look the same.

No. Blizzard wouldn't make a another SC game when SC2 is coming out. They wouldn't want to lose any people urge to play a game they are making that is not even out yet. My vote is Diablo 3 and I hope it happens cause I love the Diablo Series.

Post a link, gamasutra is a good source for info.

A second unannounced project was mentioned on Blizzplanet just before StarCraft II was announced.

Someone I will call "Anonymous" has contacted me after reading this news. Anonymous says there are two projects: Medusa and "censored". These are code-names assigned "internally" to the unannounced games.

The Second Project, which codename I choose to keep censored, might be showcased at BlizzCon along with the next World of Warcraft expansion. So, expect two game announcements at BlizzCon through August 3-5.
Also, Blizzard has been posting job openings that specifically mention Diablo for the past year or two.

The team behind Diablo I and II is looking for a talented, motivated, and experienced Art Director to help lead our art team in developing beautiful, cohesive game worlds for an unannounced PC Project and future projects.

Didn't all the main people behind Diablo leave blizzard? I don't think a 3rd one would live up to the expectations if this is true.

Do you think that will stop them from making it ? Diablo III is like printing money.

Just because there's a new team for making MAYBE Diablo III, it doesn't mean that the game will not follow the spirit of the first two. The devs just need to try harder to keep on track with the vision

The only thing the first two shared was their point-click-kill abilities

levels, story (to a point), skills, alot is different from the first two, so all their team has to do is create another point-click-kill game following the same story to a point with some twists and you will have diablo 3

god I hope they bring back the chapel

Blizzard should recruit some people from Iron Lore (of Titan Quest) to work on D3 since they are pretty much bankrupt.

I honestly hope this "unannounced" title isent Diablo 3, I would love to see some kind of new IP from them, as much as I love the Diablo franchise im not itching for another Diablo. Id much rather see some kind of completly new game idea...maybe a Blizzard FPS lawl that would be awesome

But if it does turn out to be another Diablo I wont dissapointed, ill buy it, play it...im just looking for something new I guess.

The story is already written. You know all those Diablo books? They're there for a reason.

It's probably going to be Diablo 3. I'm sure we'll find that out within the next couple years.

my feelings precisely.

So none of you think that Blizzard is capable of making a whole new game? I mean I know they have thrown around a lot of Diablo(s), StarCraft(s) and WarCraft(s).... but I still believe Blizzard can be creative enough to come out with something else as good as crack.

Maybe Iron Lore could be bought out by Blizzard, keep their office right in Maynard, and work on D3 there.

And since I work in the same building as Iron Lore, I would be more than happy to become a beta tester for them :D
