So my computer with soundstorm bit the dust and im using my newer computer with my audigy 2 zs soundcard in it (had it for a while), the problem is i have a 3.5mm "mini optical to regular optical" cable, but it seems my audigy 2 zs just WONT produce sound out of my damn onkyo tsr603x receiver

is there any particular settings to get it to do optical or does the audigy 2 zs just not do receivers?

(i know the audigy 2 zs cant do 5.1 dolby digital encoding but it SHOULD be able to do stereo optical!!!)

Do you have the Receiver set for optical input?
I am not sure if the digital jack on the ZS model is a input and ouput or just a output.
I know it is not compatible with the digital I/O module from Creative. Alot of times digital problems are related to one device not ready for the other..

Ok here's a few things, make sure you go to the Creative control panel and enable optical if you have it, also make sure your speaker is set to 5.1, I had mine set to 2.1 and it sounded bad, another and better alternative to your problem is buy this cables

They help you connect your speakers to your sound card analog, the problem with using the optical cables is that it bypasses the sound card and gives the receiver all the information to take care of everything, this means that you loose real 5.1 and EAX special effects, hope this helped and good luck.

That cable is not meant to convert coaxial to optical, you need a real converter. Is there any reason you can't use the digital coaxial inputs on the receiver, you would only need a <$10 cable for that.

It's not, the cable you have is meant for portable devices. See here:

The cable you need is this:

And the RCA plug would go into the receiver's digital coaxial input.

was just looking if a 3.5mm to coax even existed and found one at radioshack, but thanks for the links becuase i might have to buy the high quality canare one from ram audio.

i guess i thought the mini optical would work because my macbook uses it, and thought the audigy 2 would have the same thing.

Going to pick up the convertor at radioshack see if it works and then buy a permanent cable.
