For 42", yes, 1024x768 is the most common. When you go bigger (50" and up) it steps up to the true widescreen 1366x768 (usually).

Yes, I am fully aware that most of the 42" panels use that resolution. It would be decent for a promo screen in a shop though. I have been eyeballing some of the 50" 1080p screens that have been dropping in price.
