so i tried the free trial and it seems cool just i dont kno what to do :p

any suggestions ?

I want to be a priest and hang out and heal people.

2 options

1) Quit and never look back if you value your life

2) Buy a subscription. Be active on your server's forum so people recognize your name. Join guild. Heal peeps. Do instant runs until your brain rots.

:)

If you like the game, buy a subscription + BC expansion, but play it in moderation.
As long as you are willing to take a break and play the game in moderation, it's really not that difficult to stop playing the game.
What you need to keep in mind, is that people here exaggerate how addictive the game is...It's really not that bad.

<---- 3 level 60s, 1 level 69 and still have time for a job and university (full time student)

QFT!

Don't listen to people acting like its the root of all evil, its just a game ffs, people are just weak and pathetic. Just remember you will never be the best on the server, probably not even close, so don't spend hundreds of hours trying to get exalted status or trying to get the best PVP weps... thats not an exaggeration, you'll see when you get there

The best tip I can give you is to know your class. As a healer that will be easy. I just hate seeing fury warriors thinking they are damage dealers when mages or locks could one shot them because they are not specced right. Also, its an MMO, so be social. If you have a question go into general chat and ask, you'd be surprised how often people will help.

well im not planning to play all the time , i have no intentions of ending up like the south park players :p

for the most part it just to hang out with irl friends and to see how much gold i can get without trying

but my question is what is the first hting to do, all i do is hang round and talk to people like some hobo , id pan handle if i could ahahhaha

Well, maybe if this wouldn't happen in every single thread with WoW in the title it might be a bit funnier.

As to what you should do, find the guys with "!" over their head and talk to them, get the quest, do the quest, turn in the quest and repeat until you are lvl 70. A year from now I'll tell you what to do next lol.

Consider joining a guild as others suggested or go to Ten Ton Hammers or Gamespot or many other sites that publish many many guides on WoW gameplay for free.

find 30 other buddies who you have met/know personally in your area. get them to play. have fun.

Yea thats what I said then I found myself playing 6 hours a day and >24 hours on the weekends. Did I mention I work 12 hours a day? lol

Seriously though find a good guild judging by your name you might have already found one lol I was playing on Medivh for awhile and there was a mid-range guild called 'trailerparkboyz' lol.

But find a guild and just have fun as long as you play in moderation its a badass game. The problem I had is the game and your guild will usually end up sucking you into more playtime, 1 or 2 hours a day quickly can turn into 6 or 8. And god help you when you make 70 and want endgame content, once you cross that line your life ends. If you just wanna play to 70 yea its a great thing to do in your free time, but once you wanna do end game raids your looking at, at least 4 hours each night at the very minimum, I was pulling 5.5, 6 hour Raid nights on the weekdays and that was MANDATORY raid times for the guild lol.

Bottom line just watch yourself and have fun.

Actually that is women in general!!!! Just Kidding, the game can be played in moderation but can also be very addicting. If you really want to play look for a medium server that is in your time zone (makes finding groups much easier), pick the Horde side and go about your business. I suggest not using a leveling guide with your first character as you will lose a lot of the experience of the game. Just run around, ask questions, find a good "CASUAL" guild, not one that is hardcore raiding, and go from there. Godspeed to you and may heaven forgive you for your future sins NOW!!

Get some of your friends or people at work to start playing. It's a lot of fun to talk about your character and what you and your friends did on the game last time you played and what your goals are.

That way if you're too busy to play all the time you can still talk about it at work and such.

Just expect to get odd looks from your other coworkers, I know me and my friend at work do..

World of Warcraft is a must play experience. It is terrific. You have to be aware of a few things, however.

First, it is time consuming. There is plenty to do in World of Warcraft, but the best sights, sounds, and gameplay are in "instances" where you fight in a coordinated group of five people or so. Some of these instances take an hour plus to complete, and it is hard to leave because if you leave in the middle you more or less screw the other members of your party. It is an incredible journey though.

Two, it never ends. There is more content in WoW than you can possibly take in and they add more all the time. You can't win.

Three, enjoy the journey and not the destination. In other words, play it for the gameplay, not for the character building and item collecting. Don't worry about catching up to people who are higher than you, or leveling up, or getting that next item. If you obsess over those kinds of things the game will turn into a grind without you realizing it. But if you just play at your own pace and enjoy the sights/sounds and the actual combat and have a good time you'll find that you naturally build your skills, collect items, and discover new territory.

You have to understand that there is always going to be a better item, or a new dungeon to explore, or something to do next. It is like trying to travel through a universe that is constantly expanding.

The key is explore and have fun. What gets people into trouble is that they get involved with guilds and groups of people who don't necessarily have their priorities straight, and in order to keep up with those people you have to play more than you want to/really should. Some of these people are to gaming what professional hot dog eaters are to food.

Just keep some perspective and don't forget how much your time is worth in the real world.

Oh, one more thing. Don't let people who are a lot higher than you run you through stuff. It makes it harder to level up because you don't get as many experience points and it also spoils the game and turns it into a grind.

Try and play with people who are close to your level.

Well said.

I just want to add that it is entirely possible to raid casually. I have 2 70's, a warrior tank and a warlock, and both are geared in kara and other epics. I only do kara 2 nights a week, tuesday and wednesday, for about 4 hours each and we usually clear it except NS. Thats 8 hours a week to raiding, and I will play a bit on the weekends to make gold and get rep and stuff.

We have started gruuls and that is only another hour each week, and we want to progress from kara to ZA but not until everyone is geared from kara with everything they want, and that will replace the time I spend in kara and not add to the time I spend raiding.

I am in college, a CS major, and I am graduating in a few weeks. I have a job as a software engineer, and I raid casually in World of Warcraft.

LOL

Weak willed individuals can and do get sucked into the game.

1. Always something to do
2. Always better gear to acquire
3. Vent + good guild = lots of fun (especially if your guild has an age limit yes we tell them to put it on their application)
4. Getting drunk while running instances is a blast if everyone is doing it haha

if you have an addictive personality, minds well play wow. generally cheaper than drugs, plus no piss test.

no offense, I have no problem with anyone playing wow casually (too many people take the game and themselves way too seriously), but Kara is not raiding. It can be pugged very easily and is only a baby step above 5 mans. There are no casual players in BT.

Kara is a raid simply because you need to be in a raid group...

You can redefine anything any way you like if you are an elitist... I never said kara was hard, we clear it in one night, at most two if people need to leave. We will wipe on prince if we are unlucky, and maybe nightbane, thats it.

In any case, there was nothing flawed with what I said, kara is raiding, you need a raid group to do it, that is the definition.

You just made my day with that. Every time I log in and run to the AH i get bombarded with /tells from random shmucks trying to bum instance runs from me. Yeah, i'm an epic'd lvl 70, but no that doesnt mean I want to run punks through instances for no gain to myself.

Its about time I see someone else with the right outlook on playing the game.

The wife and I just started playing recently. It's fun to play together or seperate. One of my wifes best friends moved to Texas and they can play togehter and 'talk'.

One day a week we have a friend and my brother-in-law over and we all play. They started new characters with us so we would lvl together.

pretty cool playing wow on a 50" DLP :)

3 level 70s,
I've been free and clear since I e-bayed my account for at a priced to sell bargain of $500 last July.

ya... join a simple minded guild, none of the elitest shit. when i just started to WoW, i LOVED the barrens and the barrens chat about Chuck Norris, and how they colored everything, and everything else, the music was awesome too. Thats my favorite area of WoW, besides Nagrand. I ended up reading www.wowwiki.com when I would be bored at work to read something about another piece of lore.... man those guys at Blizzard sure do know how to come up with cool stories! this game is absolutely awesome! Get a few simple mods, one for coordinates and one to show all your bags as one. those 2 are essential to a starting player. you'll end up with tons of add-ons as you progress.

Addiction - ya, its bad, if you let it be bad. I've reduced play time from ALOT more, but I still WoW about 5 hrs a night, sadddd..... a few years ago, my friend and I would go to the gym, work out for 2 - 3 hrs hours and end up staying @ his house to raid with our guild... then that stage passed. I went on a 6 month hiatus, and he ended up soon following, i returned over this summer, since my new co-worker is his guilds MT, so he would be reading forums about strategies for Mag, Gruul, etc. and i got sucked back in...... sad, but also fun as hell again!

we clear kara in one night, generally with no whipes, SSC and the Eye are on other nights and ZA is for fun on Sundays.

as for my playtime, i might play a lot for 2-4 days, like all of my free time, then not play for two weeks.

You dont have to be sucked in to play WoW. Some people have addictive personalities, and the only thing they can think about when they are away from their computer is playing that one game they are currently on.

I can tell you this... treat the game as something to fill time, not something to spend all your time on. You can STILL get to the top lvl playing an hour here or an hour there. As of now, I play maybe 2 hours a night before bed (10pm - 12am). There's nothing on tv anyway, so I just run an instance or two with my guild and then go to sleep.

One other thing. They have increased the exp gain from questing in the 20-60 bracket. You can literally fly through lvls now. A buddy of mine and myself are in the middle of a new toon grind. Just over 4 days /played time, and we're lvl 56. That's playing casually an hour or two a night.

Play casually. Its a game and it doesnt have to be an addiction.
